"While the components are a little pricey, the WeMo system is probably about the easiest home automation system to configure. Anyone can set up this system in minutes."

I bought the WeMo "Switch + Motion" from Amazon, after reading many, many reviews. The weird thing about the reviews on Amazon is how bimodal they are -- lots of 5's and lots of 1's. So I discounted the negative reviews. I chalked them up to either technical incompetence, or nitpicking. Boy was I wrong. This thing did not even begin to work for me. I tried for hours and hours to get it set up and I was never successful in having the (Android) app recognize the switch. I tried everything Belkin recommended in their on-line help -- many times. Obviously many other people have had the same experience. But apparently at least some people are able to get it to work. Maybe it depends on what kind of router you have, or something. I'm not going to go buy a Belkin router just to see if that works. Too bad about all this. It's a really good product idea IMO. But when you have a product that gets sooo many negative reviews on Amazon, I think it must be a dead giveaway. For me, it was worth a try, and it only cost me few hours of wasted time. As an Amazon Prime member I can send it right back for free, no questions asked. And that is exactly what I am doing.

Many complaints about this product have been addressed in recent firmware upgrades. Existing customers should perform a firmware upgrade of their devices. However, even with the current firmware installed, my switches have a problem with the accuracy of their internal clocks. With an OFF command set for a specific time, the devices perform the function a few minutes earlier each day. Still a good product, but not perfected yet.

Simply does not work. Spent endless hours troubleshooting and on livechat with Belkin support (which is horrendous). You can switch it on and off when you are on your home network. Remote Access does not work AT ALL. Once I step out of my house, or switch out of my local network to 3G or whatever, the switch cannot be detected. Tried all the troubleshooting steps. Tried it on my Iphone, tried it on wife's Galaxy S4, tried it with older firmware, new firmware, tried power cycling modem, router, device. Tried reinstalling device MANY times. You name it. Tried it. The only feature that this product guarantees is FRUSTRATION.

This items name should be changed to stupid too. It does not at all work. The box tells you it will operate on 4G cellphone networks. That's a total lie.

The item is a bit bulky, in my honest opinion. Easy to use. Easy to setup. I use it to turn my bedside lamp on at sunrise.

I've had the Belkin WeMo for a few weeks now and I have two outstanding problems with the device. The switch won't connect to my wifi at work (more below)I can't figure out what to use the switch forI initially brought the switch into work to use in conjunction with IFTTT to automate turning my desk lamp on and off when I'm at work. I couldn't get the device to connect no matter what I tried. I worked with support to try and resolve the issue (http://j.mp/ONUc7v) and in the end was unable to use it at work.I brought it home and I can't figure out what to use it for. (FYI it works great at home) Because all it does is automate wall plugs (rather than light switches or sockets) It's pretty limited to turning on and off lights on a schedule or manually from the app.The device is neat and if they made a smaller one or more interfaces options (switches and sockets) I could see maybe using one of those. But for now I just don't know what to do with the device.
