BlackBerry’s first entry into the small tablet / big phone market gets about half of the key decisions right, but a high price, poor call quality and crash-prone software ultimately make it an also-ran.
- Long battery life
- Comfortable to hold
- BB10 well-suited to a big screen
- Buggy, crash-prone software
- Middling camera

Physically the BlackBerry Z30 didn't strike me as overbearing despite its large display. Even using an optional flip cover case, the Z30 unit I handled was relatively lightweight.GizmodoNot RatedBlackberry Z30 Hands-On: BB10 Gets Hip to the HugeWe'll have to reserve judgment until we've had a chance to feel out for failures. But even if it's amazing, the Z30 will be fighting a battle against the public perception that Blackberry is on its way out.CNET UK60BlackBerry Z30 reviewWith its big, bold screen, the BlackBerry Z30 is the smart phone for you if you like watching movies, but refuse to leave BlackBerry. Its abysmally stocked app store, however, means you'd have a more pleasant experience overall looking at similarly sized Android phones.Pocket-Lint70BlackBerry Z30 reviewThe BlackBerry Z30 is the best Blackberry 10 model so far, bringing the benefits of a large display, plenty of power, a much improved design compared to the Z10, and solid battery life that has seen us through the day ... But all of these positives are set to the context of uncertainty. What's going to happen to BlackBerry?Pocket-LintNot RatedBlackBerry Z30 pictures and hands-onIn the hand, it feels like a great quality device, bettering the Z10's design, running the glass up to incorporate the ear speaker and the front camera for a nice seamless finish ... Returning to the display and first impressions are pretty good ... our first impression is that BB10 is pretty slick and fast, although obviously we need to spend more time testing it to see how it performs in daily use.GSM Arena70BlackBerry Z30 review: Against the oddsSome things could've been better obviously but there's good stuff too. To begin with, the handset somewhat fails to deliver the unapologetically premium look and feel one has every right to expect from a Blackberry. But it's a solidly built and well-handling phone. A bit too heavy perhaps.TechRadarNot RatedHands on: BlackBerry Z30 reviewThe BlackBerry Z30 appears to be a capable, if unappealing smartphone, although it's never going to try and win the hearts of the masses.Phone ScoopNot RatedHands-On: BlackBerry Z30The user interface is of course BlackBerry OS 10.2. It looks and runs more or less exactly like that on the Z10 and Q10. It appeared to function without trouble and I didn't see any problems with the operating system.phoneArenaNot RatedBlackBerry Z30 hands-onThe BlackBerry Z30 might not have enough gas in the tank to keep up with the competition. Maybe the price will be just right to warrant a purchase?Expert Reviews80BlackBerry Z30 reviewThe best BlackBerry yet, but it's too little too late.TrustedReviews70BlackBerry Z30 reviewThe BlackBerry Z30 is a great phone for someone who wants lightning-fast access to every stream of communication under the sun ... However, it suffers from a poorly-stocked app store, a problematic camera and an OS that looks a little drab in parts.CrackBerryNot RatedHands-on the white BlackBerry Z30!Ergonomically, I think the Z30 blows the Z10 out of the water, thanks mostly to the gradual curve around the back. The larger size is perfectly comfortable, though my giant hands are what you might call a mistake of nature.Expert ReviewsNot RatedBlackBerry Z30 review - hands onBlackBerry smartphones certainly aren't for everyone, but often business professionals aren't given a choice in the matter when assigned a handset by their IT department. We certainly wouldn't be ashamed to get the Z30 out in public based on our first few hours with it.The Next WebNot RatedBlackBerry’s new Z30 flagship smartphone: Hands-The Z30, on first impressions, strikes me a solid follow-up to the Z10 and strays into the 5-inch screen territory for BlackBerry for the first time. It’s a move that brings it closer to parity with rivals on store shelves and makes the it seem less ‘different’ than others on the market.

I use for work 50% and 50% personal. I've always loved BBM and voice/video chat is a fantastic addition. The screen share feature is very undersold - it is incredible! I was in Mexico in November and video chatting with friend on his Z10 while allowing him via screen share to view all my photos - awesome feature! The battery life is second to none - eat your heart out IPhone users. I start my day at 6am and routinely have 30-40% remaining by 11pm after using all day. My friends with iPhone and Samsung are stunned by the battery life. Everything else about this Smartphone is outstanding . I would give iPhone the advantage in the camera department especially in low light environment . The browser is lightning fast on Z30 and the high resolution screen is stunning . If you decide to buy one, you will be pleasantly surprised with this hidden gem of a smartphone .Engadget Reader60January 26, 2014Feedback submitted!Unable to submit feedback!Unless you need the best in security and battery life, stay away. Not because it's a bad phone itself, its the ecosystem that messed up Blackberry's revival. Developers rightfully so have very little reason to develop for it very few people own Blackberry 10 phones. It's a endless cycle.Engadget Reader90January 24, 2014Feedback submitted!Unable to submit feedback!I have owned this device for a week now and I can't imagine using any other device. This thing is solid and reliable. None of the others come even close to help me manage my day, respond to messages and simply get things done. I have stopped carrying a laptop on many business trips as the Z30 allows me to be very efficient and never miss a beat. I am dumbfounded by some of the 'professional' reviews and what criteria they used for their assessments. I consider myself a professional user of Technology and the simple fact is that the Z30 is by far the best all around mobile device for getting things done in my business life and family life. I feel this is an objective review that I can support with measurable data.Engadget Reader100January 6, 2014Feedback submitted!Unable to submit feedback!I love this device. It is great for work, a pleasure to use, always does what i need- awesomeEngadget Reader100January 2, 2014Feedback submitted!Unable to submit feedback! This is not a bad phone and I feel reviewers were too harsh on it, just for the fact that it is meant to be a 2013/2014 flagship and that it is underspecced compared to its competitors. The phone has not been sufficiently judged under its own merit, where one will find that it is a decent performer with a very intuitive and forward thinking user-interface, a market-leading keyboard which learns your words and where users can flick up to complete words quickly that rivals the useability of Swype/Swiftkey, and a powerhouse when it comes to multitasking and Flash performance. Chief amongst its advantages, and one that many users of Android and iOS have told me they wish they had, is the extremely useful integrated hub to answer and respond to my four connected e-mail accounts (work, personal, side-business and spam), along with messages on SMS, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, BBM, WhatsApp and WeChat. No opening of each individual app is required. The "no apps" comment is no longer valid or applies to BlackBerry 10, as users with just a little work can install Android apps directly onto the device through a method similar to just by simply downloading through Google Play. Like I would with an Android phone, the first thing I did on the device was install the apps I wanted. Now, with OS10.2.1, I have both the BlackBerry app store to choose from as well as the Google Play store, and I can access the likes of Instagram, Netflix, Skydrive and Tumblr which are not natively available. The phone is not perfect, and falls short in several categories compared with the leading phones of Android and Apple. iOS's ecosystem is by far the most mature and the 5S is a gorgeous and luxurious device to behold. Android flagships have some of the most cutting edge smartphone technologies available and the best integration of Google services. Apps, while largely resolved in 10.2.1, are still not BlackBerry's forte because of the weak integration with Google/Apple ecosystem services, i.e. Chromecast just doesn't work as well as it would on Google or on iOS. The camera also leaves something to be desired. Despite these flaws, this phone is a solid 9.0 for useability and messaging-focused smartphone users, and I have edited the review to give it a 10.0 as I find the "expert"/"professional" reviews to be heavily biased in favor of iOS/Android devices and they honestly haven't given this phone the legitimate shot it deserves. There is a lot to like about BlackBerry 10, and smartphone users tired of iOS or Android should not be dissuaded from trying it from a few negative comments they find online. Given that apps should no longer be the issue, prospective buyers should weigh whether a good keyboard, multitasking, gestures and the integrated hub is worth the switch to BB10 and the Z30.Engadget Reader100December 28, 2013Feedback submitted!Unable to submit feedback! This is honestly the best phone on the market. Give it a try for at least a month. Read Crackberry.com for more information.Engadget Reader100December 18, 2013Feedback submitted!Unable to submit feedback!- iTunes and Outlook "Sync Friendly" .... rare combination these days...- 2 Days + on a battery charge.... Equals 4-5X the battery life of iPhone 5S and most Android Phones- 6 external speaker "Natural Sound" is Superior to HTC "Beats Technology" for Music, Hands Free Calls, Gaming, Video Calls- BlackBerry Messenger Video Chat is Superior to Skype in "ease of use" and "quality of audio and video"....- Browsing experience is "as good as" if not "better than" anything else on the market...- New "Paratek Antenna Technology" will enable you to make/receive/retain calls in places you could only "wish for" before- Top Android apps are "loadable" and will be "even easier" when 10.2.1 comes out in the next couple of months...I had a Samsung Galaxy 3 for about a year, then a BlackBerry Z10 and wanted a "new phone"... I found the "following":- iPhone 5S just had too small of a screen and I have a family member with iOS 7 on an iPod and I don't care for the software...........- Samsung Galaxy S4 (too much like the Galaxy S3 that I had and based on a 74% "recommend to a friend" rating on Verizon - did not make any sense to do that, again).......- Nokia Phones - no interest in the plastic, the colors or the software.....- LG G2 - nice screen, played the external speaker and could not believe how "tinny" it sounded - I thought that was a good indication of a lackluster "build quality"...Bought the Z30 for the reasons mentioned above.... Have had it for a month and it is not only the "Best BlackBerry Ever", I believe that it is the "Best New Smartphone on the Market"...Don't believe me... go look at the Verizon website where the Z30 has a "better rating" than the iPhone 5S and a "much better rating" than the Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4.... go to CNET... Amazon and you "keep seeing the same results" from OWNERS of the Z30 .. not the "biased reviewers".People who had older BlackBerrys are really doing themselves a disservice by not taking a look at BlackBerry, again. The Z10, Q10 and Z30 are some of the finest and best rated phones on the market.... there is not a single line of code in BB10 software that is the same as what you had in your "old BlackBerry"... Totally New Experience that many are Enjoying...Berry Christmas...Engadget Reader100November 21, 2013Feedback submitted!Unable to submit feedback!Awesome battery life, and with latest OS 10.2.1 it has about all the features I want. Finally, a large screen from Blackberry is refreshing. The hardware truly matches the best in the industry. Software is the least user friendly OS in the market. You will have to be a diehard Blackberry lover not to switch.
