Engadget Summary

The Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II lives up to and surpasses the original in almost every way, but even with the improvements it might not live up to its high price.

On the outside, TechRadar says the Mark II has "a more modern appearance" than its predecessor, "with a solid feel and tank-like construction" according to Photography Blog. But beginners shouldn't be put off by the tough exterior or myriad of controls, as Reviewed.com notes that "Canon went out of its way to make the camera a bit more forgiving to learn for beginners," with a user interface that Digital Versus says is "pleasant enough and is relatively well designed."

Once familiar with the interface and start snapping pictures thanks to what TechRadar calls "acceptably fast" speed, you'll find it produces "images of very good quality" according to Photography Blog, and Digital Versus says they're "great right up to 3200 ISO."

Perhaps the one thing that didn't improve from the original G1 X was the battery life, which Digital Photography Review says is "still miserable for a camera this big." But in general, the PowerShot G1 X Mark II is a better camera than the shooter it replaces, and a decent buy overall.
