Engadget Review

Dell’s latest XPS 13 doesn’t stray from the line’s high standards. It’s fast, slim and sturdy. Sure, the company didn’t change much, but it didn’t really have to.

Pros
  • Still gorgeous thanks to the InfinityEdge screen
  • A bit lighter and slimmer than before
  • Supports external GPUs
  • Display now supports HDR
Cons
  • You’ll pay for the 4K display in battery life
  • No traditional USB ports or full-sized SD card reader

This is one good looking laptop... now, if only they’d move the webcam so it didn’t shoot video of my chin.

We've found Dell's new XPS 13 to be a powerful machine for productivity, combined with one of the user-friendliest designs available right now. We're huge fans.

With a new design that catches up to the competition, Dell's XPS 13 remains one of the best all-around 13-inch laptops, but everyone's biggest gripe remains unchanged.

The XPS 13 has overtaken the Surface Laptop as my favourite Windows-based laptop.

Dell nailed it. Like I said, it's the new gold standard for 13-inch laptops.

For all but the most hardcore gamers (for whom this laptop is not the target audience) and those who really do want USB-A connectivity, there is not a better Windows laptop on the market.

Moving the webcam position, adding facial login and a four-mic array, giving Intel’s chips more headroom to perform even better and adding a 4K screen have all evolved the XPS into an even more formidable flagship laptop. In directly addressing the concerns of users, the Dell XPS 13 laptop is refined further than ever before.

The XPS 13 has a few things on the Spectre 13, including better battery life, two biometric login options, and useful power and battery management software. You get what you pay for with Dell's device, and some will be willing to pay for those extra perks every time. It's hard to recommend one over the other, the XPS 13 or the Spectre 13, because both are solid, stylish, and powerful laptops. For that reason, Dell succeeded—it updated the XPS 13 thoughtfully, elevating it to be a true contender among the rest of today's popular ultrabooks.
