Engadget Review

Android 10 isn’t perfect, but it builds on a strong foundation with helpful features like a dark mode, mostly improved gesture navigation, more nuanced notification controls and better privacy tools. It won’t completely reshape the way you use Android, but by re-engineering some key software updates and adding support for foldable devices and 5G, this transitional update is all about paving the way for tomorrow.

Pros
  • Dark mode looks great
  • 5G and foldable support are crucial
  • Project Mainline speeds up crucial updates
  • More obvious privacy controls are helpful
  • Better for managing notifications
Cons
  • It’ll probably be a while before you get it
  • Some gestures need more polish
  • Project Mainline isn’t enabled for everyone

The latest version of Google's Android mobile operating system brings a batch of security and privacy improvements and a new Dark Theme, too.

That means Android 10 is not a milestone; it’s a mile marker. It has made real progress and is heading in the right direction, but the landscape looks the same.

Google has a lot of ecosystem wrap-up work to do, and it really needs to ship that gesture navigation update as soon as possible. But today with Android 10 truly available, it's hard to imagine a significant list of user feature requests right now.

Android 10 seems to finish what Android Pie started in a good way. However, Google still has a long way to go with a lot of these feature and we’re excited to see what happens in Android 11.
