Engadget Review

The Pixel 3 XL would be a superb big-screen phone if its notch weren’t so polarizing. If you don’t like the fact that this notch is bigger than rival phones and don’t want to use the software fix to mask it, the Pixel 3 XL isn’t for you. But if you can live with those caveats, the Pixel 3 XL is a long-lasting, powerful flagship with a brilliant display, capable cameras and the best of Google’s software smarts.

I bought two Pixel 3 XLs on launch day, mostly because I was tired of the "Supposed" gorrila glass trend that The Galaxies have. It's not like everyone drops their phones twice a week, but if your like me you probably drop it more than that. It just happens! Anyway it's been like 2 months since I got my Pixel and it's already been dropped like 4 times. Once it even flew right out of my hands and onto my porcelain tile with just a thin 3rd party cover, it came out unscathed. Unlike my now spiderwebbed S7 and S8(that were in OtterBox cases), plus this notch everyone is bugging about really isn't a big deal. I recently came to learn what it actually was lol.

If only Google had RCS chat already, or really any iMessage competitor then the Pixel would be a near perfect phone. The only other issue is the notch (which can be fixed with Nacho Notch app.

Will not use dexcom g 6 app or Macon bank and trust app which I used to use on my first pixel daily

The hardware specs are great as well as an excellent camera. Battery life is good and one charge will last me all day with moderate use. The only complaint I have with it is the audio quality when playing videos. Even at low volume the phone vibrates so much that it produces a constant buzzing noise that gets a bit annoying after awhile.

So far I have enjoyed my Pixel 3 XL far more than the Samsung S8+ and S7 Edge that I had before it. One of the biggest reasons for this is that the Samsung Touchwiz interface would inevitably slow down the entire phone and I'd find myself factory resetting the samsung phones every few months. I've only had 2 issues with my Pixel 3 XL - the first one was the infamous photo bug where the pictures you take don't save. My phone has now has the December 2018 patch installed but time will tell if it has helped the situation. The other issue was the phone closing certain apps running in the background. This could also get annoying if i was trying to copy and paste items from one app to another inside the phone. This really becomes more of a RAM issue. Again, with the fix installed we will see what happens. I bought this phone for the camera and to be honest I'm really not impressed all that much. It tends to completely oversaturate blue tones making pictures look fake. The night vision feature is great but I've realized I don't really find myself taking that many pictures in low light situations. Am I happy with the Pixel 3 XL? Yes. But I really think Google could have come to the table with a lot more improvements.

I bought the Pixel 3 XL with $200 discount during Google's Thanksgiving sale. For the price of $699, I am quite satisfied with it, but I will never pay full price for this device. Some features are a bit overrated, such as the camera. It is no where near Huawei's. Battery life isn't great. However, the Android OS experience on this phone is hard to beat. If Google really wants to sell this device, keep it in $600-700 price range.

I came from the Pixel 1 XL. I thought not having an audio jack was going to kill it for me but after 2 weeks of use... I don't even think I need an audio jack ever again. The only thing that's noticeable is the dual speakers. Some genres or songs have to be turned down as to sound good. If not, the sound can be muffled. This isn't a big deal because I'm usually listening to music on my Google Home device or through headphones but I'd still like to crank up the music and play through the speakers on my phone from time to time. The only other peeve I have with the phone is not actually with the phone but with Android Pie. I love what they've done with the notifications/do not disturb. My problem is I never know when things are completely off or on. There's so much notification customization that it seems overwhelming. Add in having do not disturb on but being able to add exceptions... it just makes things more complicated than they need to be. I miss the 'Total Silence' setting that Android used to have.

Had my Pixel 3 XL for three weeks now. Everything is smooth as can be. Speaker issues and memory management fixed with December Security Patch. The huge notch isn't as big of an eye sore as you might expect. You don't notice it 99% of the time. I came from the original Pixel XL and I appreciated the Pixel Tips offered to the user when setting up the phone. Charging is super fast. Battery lasts all day. Pixel Earbuds are clear and sound great. No noise cancelation but I think that is great cause I can pause my loud music and have a clear conversation with someone without needing to take the Earbuds out. The Google Assistant features on the Earbuds and the Squeeze for Assistant is fantastic. The "Now Playing" feature is so cool. Notification controls and customization are near perfection!!!

I upgraded from an HTC One M10 which I pre-ordered a couple years ago. At the time it was the "purest" phone you could by short of a Google phone which was not being offered. I was incredibly happy with it and only gave it up due to the rapidly aging battery. I was wanting a pure android experience and the Pixel 3XL delivers it. Its fast, clean, and for the most part gives me what I'm looking for. My current gripes are as follows: 1) The Google Search bar at the bottom can't be moved or hidden 2) the assistant (date time widget) can't be moved off the first screen and 3) rapid charging is only with USB-C "Google" approved chargers. All the Qi Rapid chargers I have for my HTC only charge the XL at slow speeds. Past that, once I figured out where the settings are and that I could SEARCH for settings I have gotten the phone dialed in how I like it. The notch doesn't bother me at all, and the camera is bang on awesome. Takes better photos than my DSLR at times. Definitely would recommend.
