Engadget Review

The Pixel 3’s best new features lie in its software, which will ultimately mostly roll out to older Pixel phones. But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth shelling out for an upgrade. The latest flagship’s gorgeous new display and exquisite build make your photos, videos and games look so good you won’t mind the $150 price hike.

I own the pixel 3 and would give it 2 stars overall, but probably 5 if it had a better battery, (mine lasts about 5 to 6 hours normal use and everything optimized), and if it had an led for notifications, as well as a headphone jack. Also mine overheats if it's over 82 degrees Fahrenheit, not sure what that's all about but i contacted Google and although they couldn't fix it, they recorded it. Thankfully I'm within my 14 day return period at Verizon and am swapping it for a moto 7 power (supposed to have decent battery).

I don't normally write reviews but this I feel should be shared as it's very frustrating between Google and Best Buy. I am very unhappy with both google and Best Buy. We both got new phones as are contract was up and went with the GOOGLE PIXEL 3. Well in the process my wife had a baby that's in Nicu so we are both very busy and now my wife is with our baby all day and I travel back and forth. Well 5 days later of having the phones the common problem apparently all over the internet is we lose connection with one another. I can't even talk to someone 3 blocks down Every phone call we make to each other we constantly lose connection and it cuts in and out. Only way we can have a conversation is facetiming one another. Both google and Best Buy are aware of this issue After only a month and 6 days I had a chance to deal with this situation as it's very frustrating with difficult times we are having and can not communicate with one another. I have talked to Google and Best Buy the only result is Best Buy could only do something for me if it was in the 30 days and gave me a BS story. Google wants me to be without a phone for 5-15 business days before getting a new one. We have had terrible service with both as not only does my job consist of my phone but more importantly my family. THIS IS ARE FIRST AND WILL BE ARE LAST GOOGLE PRODUCT. We also would expect better service from Best Buy understanding we couldn't have the chance to get in there in time. We were willing to make something work but are just not able to be without a phone. VERY DISSAPOINTED IN BOTH COMPANIES

Why can't you use an aux cord on this phone? It's necessary considering bluetooth doesn't work 100% of the time. I also have been missing important calls because they don't go through and having a bad connection to the internet. This phone disappointed me to be honest.

I upgraded from the Pixel 1 to the Pixel 3 and have been very disappointed. The first disappointment is the battery life. The battery life on my Pixel 1 was just as good as on the 3 and that phone is 2.5 years old. I expected more from a newer phone. The second disappointment is the screen. It does not go all the way to the top and bottom edges. The 3 XL does however. Why? The third and greatest disappointment of all is the durability. Within a month of owning the phone, all I did, literally, was take it out of my pocket and sit it down and the whole glass back cracked. I called Google to report this as a manufacturing defect but was condescended to and shuffled around an endless support loop that deliberately went nowhere. The final and perhaps greatest concern I now have is that I can't seem to find barely any negative reviews of this phone online, nor many places to leave reviews. This concerns me greatly and if you ask me Google has a team working to ensure it stays this way. Could I be the only one having a bad experience? Highly unlikely, especially given that they have been out of stock on the replacement back glass since November last year...

DO NOT BUY! I've had a Pixel 3 for about 2 months now. My device is failing quickly. First the speakerphone quit working. Then the phone wouldn't ring, wouldn't play an alarm or notification sound. Then the lower speaker quit working altogether. Now the settings keep reverting back to factory settings despite me changing them more than once. What's google's response to my 2 month old phone beginning to completely fail that I spent $800 on? Send me a USED REFURBISHED ONE! I can't even get a new replacement for their defective device. They have the absolute worst customer service and are clearly sending out devices that they know are going to fail but don't care. It is not OK that customers are expected to accept a used phone when they just spent $800 on something that should still be brand new. I've been so very loyal to google, this is probably my fourth phone from them and I've recommended them to everyone. Not any more.

Worst experience! When I ordered the device directly from Google, the system automatically populated my Google+ account address for shipping (even though I entered the correct address when ordering). When I realized what hadhappened I contacted Google to see if they could ship it to the correct address they said no. Thinking that since it was partially my fault that I didn't double-check the address that it was being shipped to I said, okay, just a simple mistake I'll go out of my way and drive all the way to the FedEx distribution center (over an hour away). I get the phone set everything up and after about two weeks with it, I notice a defect in the display, contact Google and get them to replace the phone. At this point I explained the previous issue and explicitly made it clear the correct shipping address. Sure enough I get the order receipt for the replacement an lo and behold the WRONG ADDRESS is on it. Open a chat with a Google rep, to verify and change the shipping address, she assured me multiple times that the device would be shipped to the correct address. Problem solved right? WRONG! GET THE SHIPPING NOTIFICATION FROM FEDEX AND STILL THE WRONG ADDRESS! WTF MAN! contacted Google AGAIN and for all intents and purposes they told me there's nothing they can do except stop shipment and reordering waiting even of my time! ABSOLUTE GARBAGE CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Apps like Snapchat and Instagram seemed to work much better on iOS. Pictures and videos will not always save in order to google photos and makes it hard to track when I'm looking for videos taken back to back. Camera quality is great, however sometimes the camera will freeze the first few seconds of video then glitch back to filming like normal. The first few seconds remain frozen though when I go back to look at the video. Phone unlocks every time you charge it if you don't have a password or fingerprint set for the phone and I don't see why my phone has to become vulnerable to people seeing and touching my home screen just because I plug the charger in. Don't see why it's necessary to manually lock my phone off the side every time I want to plug in the charger. Most of the problems end up going in depth with the apps however as that is mostly what I use and the Pixel has a range of problems from syncing my stored photos in my phone to snapchat rendering it unable to post stored videos to Instagram not shortening the length of my videos after cropping them using the in-app tool. It's like Google and several of these apps developers refuse to communicate with each other to establish a proper functionality within the phone

Headphone jack and open QI fast charging would have made this a 10/10

I've been very impressed with this phone, having come from Samsung Galaxy S7 which experience old age sluggishness (despite numerous cleansings and factory resets). I'm also on 2nd Pixel 3 having dropped the first one after 3 weeks and required replacement (very glad I got the extended support plan). Replacement came in 3 days! Have not experienced many of the issues others have raised (knock on wood). It's been fast and reliable. Battery life is great! It will make it through the day on single charge (including 3+hours of Waze with my daily commute while listening to Podcasts). Also got the wireless charging stand (after it went on sale) and like the functions it provides. Even though I don't need to charge the phone, enjoy the photo displays while working. The camera is pure digital magic (especially Night Shot mode). I know picture taking is very personal issue but I'm enjoying this phones pictures more than my Samsung S7....and display is just as good as Samsung's (in my opinion). MY ONLY COMPLAINT: As an early adopter of Pixel 3, I bought it before any of the various special promotions :-( For those of us who support Google in this manner by quickly stepping up to purchase, our loyalty and support has been challenged. We will have many second thoughts about buying future devices so quickly.....especially when already such a significant cost/investment. Shame on Google in their marketing approach on this. In the future everyone will wait for promotions when new product comes out and Google will have to sit back and nervously wait to see if it will be a hit for their fans.
