Engadget Review

HTC's One mini 2 is a fantastic-looking phone with much of the One M8's appeal. Beneath the brushed-aluminum body is capable internal hardware, even if it's not a huge improvement over last year's One mini. The 13-megapixel camera leaves a lot to be desired, but if you want the M8's premium design at a cheaper price or in a smaller form factor, you won't be disappointed.

That the HTC One Mini 2 lacks the features of the M8 is not to say it's a bad phone. We're not getting that feeling at all. It looks and feels great. It's snappy. The BoomSound speakers (and audio enhancements), while smaller, still sound better than any rear-speakered phone out there.

On the subject of whether smaller phones necessarily ought to be lesser phones, it's clear that HTC doesn't agree with Sony, and it doesn't want to tread the same path as the high-specced Xperia Z1 Compact. The One Mini 2 is aesthetically very similar to its larger sibling.
Product Review
Pocket-Lint
The HTC One mini 2 doesn't appear to do anything particularly wrong as a mid-range device, but the camera seems like an oddity, drifting from the message of the rest of the One family.
Product Review
SlashGear
The family resemblance between the One mini 2 and the One M8 is clear, though HTC has cut costs in a few areas. For a start it's not a full unibody in the same way that the One M8 is, and there's more plastic to be found in the construction.

The Taiwan-based vendor has once again shown that its design chops are a cut above most rivals. Despite being firmly planted in the mid-range category, the One mini 2 looks and feels like a high-end smartphone.

GSM Arena
The HTC One mini 2 is a prized addition to Android's mini lineup. The "mini" moniker will certainly come under fire though - not because of the 4.5" screen but because of the height. Is it worth it though?

If style is of the utmost importance, it's worth checking out, but the Moto G is much better value.

One mini 2 retains plenty of the One’s visual and ergonomic appeal, but it’s just not as polished nor as coherent a device.

Despite cutting some of the M8's headline features, HTC's latest miniature is a competent all-rounder with plenty to offer.
