Engadget Review

An impressive upgrade to the QX50 with engine technology that’s an outstanding achievement but doesn’t deliver as much efficiency as I had hoped.

Will QX50 buyers really care that the engine is the first of its kind and a technological triumph? Probably not much. What will sell them on the QX50 are its promises of fuel economy, luxurious appointments, build quality, interior space, and inoffensive style. Provided that the engine doesn’t pull an Oldsmobile diesel or a Cadillac V-8-6-4, the unique complexity and novel solution under the hood will go unnoticed, and that’s not the applause that the engineers deserve.

Edmunds
After testing the QX50, it's this new powertrain, discouragingly, that disappoints the most. The continuously variable automatic transmission's inconsistent responses seem to sap whatever potential advantages the engine might have. And real-world fuel economy is only incrementally better for the QX50 than for other rival SUVs with four-cylinder engines.

Once an outlier among 2-row/5-passenger luxury SUVs, the reborn QX50 is now a more capable competitor to better-known rivals like the Audi Q5, Acura RDX and Lexus NX.

If you want newfangled tech but a traditional luxury feel, the QX50 is worth your attention.

The 2019 Infiniti QX50 is a beautiful package of technological innovations—in places visible and not visible.

NY Daily News
Ultimately, Infiniti will sell more examples of this QX50 than it did the last one. It follows the exact blueprint that other companies have used to great success. At the same time, though, aside from a VC-Turbo engine that appears to meet only half of its mandate, there is little about the new QX50 to compel consideration – aside from its attractive design.

Infiniti has a solid little crossover in the QX50. The drive-by-wire steering and transmission paired with the VC-Turbo engine and multiple driving modes make for an engaging vehicle that is fun to drive and handles nicely.

All in all, the 2019 Infiniti QX50 is a very good luxury compact crossover SUV and a major step forward for the brand. But it's a few tweaks away from perfection.

Motor Trend
A technical wonder of an engine sits under the hood of the striking QX50, but this beautiful luxury crossover is held back by its transmission and infotainment system.
