Engadget Review

The $650 Korg Monologue XD improves on what was arguably the best-bang-for-your-buck analog synthesizer by adding a user-programmable digital oscillator, an improved sequencer and tweaking the filter. The combination of sound, build quality and low price is something Korg’s competitors simply haven’t been able to match.

Pros
  • Excellent analog and digital sounds (especially for pads)
  • User programmable oscillator has tons of potential
  • Tons of physical controls
  • Solid build quality
Cons
  • Slim keys might pose a problem for those with bigger hands
  • Non-programmable arpeggiator and no key trg / hold function for sequencer

Awesome warm sounds, pads, UFO sounds (using LFO) cold and distant, too (if you want). If you want to learn, might as well do it right and get the real 4 voice analogue. Will be out of tune, at first (even after waiting a few seconds for it to tune up at start), just play "local" for a minute or change the preset (program/value knob) to stop that.

Weak synth. Be careful buying synths in this price range. I did like its portability but didn't like the small keys or thin sound. It can make some interesting timbres but it just seemed to lack an overall fullness. Do yourself a favor and save for a nicer polyphonic synthesizer. That way you won't be dissatisfied like myself.
