The bright orange bumper surrounding the Rugged Thunderbolt might make the drive seem "bulky" to Digital Photography Review, but Cult of Mac says it gives the drive a "distinctive look" that makes it "easy to find in my cluttered office." Whether you love or hate the look, the rubberized bumper can't be removed. This is a distinct advantage as the Thunderbolt cable has been built right in, meaning there's no chance of you losing or forgetting your cord.
You'll be glad for the built-in cable when you see the "blistering throughput numbers" the Thunderbolt connection delivered for PC Mag, who also got "equally astounding" results via the USB 3.0 interface as well. StorageReview thinks it should "satisfy the needs of mobile users, whatever their use case may be," while CNET calls it "the fastest portable drive on the market."
The Rugged Thunderbolt might not be that sexy on the outside, but the way it survives a tumble certainly is. Combine that with the drive's impressive speeds, and you have quite an attractive package for any Mac user.
