It sports the same sensor as Nikon's highly regarded D90. I do not have stock lens so I cannot review lens quality or image quality. But as the sensor comes from the D60, it does do very well, especially at high ISO settings like 800. Just don't compare it with higher-end sensors such as the one in Canon 60D. It is very light but feels very rugged at the same time. Unfortunately, it does not have rubberized grip which is a downer. UI is simple, it just works very well.It doesn't have AF built-in, so you'll need lens with AF or AF-S.720p at 25fps... it's alright, don't expect too much. Researched on all the websites (steves-digicams, dpreview), read through the over 1000 forum posts (yes) and it was down to the D5000 or the Canon T1 in my Budget range.When JandR had the promo for the kit with 2 VR lenses (Nikon 18-55mm VR Lens and 55-200mm VR Lens) for under $800, along with a Free bag, this was it. Before I only had Lumix TZ3. I think D5000 is a world ahead of any P&S -- bigger sensor, more control, more ISO, less noise, MUCH faster focus.It's almost a no brainer if are willing to put up with increased size/weight of dSLR.most pro reviews rate it head-to-head with Canon T1i. I've looked at pictures I prefer Nikon dLighting. But it's a tough call. What was an easy call -- feel of the camera in the hand. Some people love Canon, some Nikon -- I am a Nikon kind of guy :-)Comparing to D90 was also easy. Biggest factor is price. Do you want to spend 50% more on a D90 kit? To me these aren't even in the same category. For a beginner this will be a good camera to own because its really easy to use and has great features the video quality is also good. The camera also has a Live view feature it is a good feature that goes well with the vary - angle screen when taking pictures in hard to reach places but unfortunately the auto focusing in Live view is a little slow so that's the down side. the camera doesn't have a auto focus motor build inside the body so that's another down side for people who has old lenses, thank you.
