Engadget Review

The Lumia 925 is better than the 920 in most, but not all ways. Nokia clearly made sacrifices for a slimmer design, but we think they're worth it.

Overall, from what we've seen so far, the Nokia Lumia 925 is a flagship phone that screams quality. It brings strong design to the fight, fused with Nokia's enhancements of Microsoft's mobile OS, giving you the best of Windows Phone.

The Nokia Lumia 925 bottom line is simple: it’s the best looking, best feeling Windows Phone 8 handset Nokia has given us to-date, and while it may not be PureView as the 808 outlined it, Nokia is aiming big with claims that it offers the best low-light performance of any smartphone on the market.

The Nokia Lumia 925 is a tricky beast to rate. Nokia tells us that this is a phone designed for the more technologically minded, the person that wants the latest and greatest handset from the brand. However it seems that person would be disappointed by the Lumia 925, with its average specs and minimal upgrade from the 920 - at least when it comes to the internals.

The creeping problem we have with the Lumia 925 is that it's very much an iterative improvement over the Lumia 920: think the HTC One X+ or the iPhone 4S, but without any subsequent processor bump -- not that it needs it.

While we are fans of the operating system, we think Microsoft needs to contribute more to help flagship handsets, such as the Nokia Lumia 925, stand out from the crowd ... we can't help but think that the operating system is holding this handset back.

This new Lumia might be called “what the Lumia 920 should have been”. Its body doesn’t stick out like the fat kid in the football team anymore, and it doesn’t trade off anything else in the deal.

The 925 is an improvement over the 920 in terms of weight and depth (in fact, it’s an amazing 50 grams lighter than the 920).

With its new metal parts, the Nokia Lumia 925 is a sleek and attractive addition to the Windows Phone 8 range. Does it excite, though? No. It shares most of its key specs with the older Lumia 920 which doesn't really stack up well against the elite competition.

While the shots appeared very neon-looking on the Lumia 928’s screen, once we got them to a computer the colors were not so off. The tone is more vivid that comparison shots taken with an iPhone 4S, and the dynamic range is significantly better by default.

Laptop Magazine
The Windows Phone 8 user interface was smooth as we navigated through the device, looking at pictures and trying different apps ... The real upgrades with the 925 is the design.
