Engadget Summary

Though Qualcomm's attempt at a smartwatch brings some new hardware features to the table, it is far from a category-defining product. Like the Pebble, the Qualcomm Toq forgoes an LCD in favor of their own battery-saving Mirasol display technology. While Laptop Magazine finds it to be a "step up" from the Pebble, it still isn't as good as an LCD, though Wired says "for the simple tasks it performs, the display is perfectly acceptable." The gains from the Mirasol display are apparent in the battery department, with Ars Technica "able to spend five full days using the Toq." Qualcomm's Android app lets you manage how your phone and the Toq interact, but Laptop Magazine says while the "Toq may satisfy" if you just need alerts or a remote, it stills need more developers to jump on board. In terms of size, Technology Review finds the Toq "weighty" but still "balanced on the wrist." However, for the best fit you'll actually have to cut the band, leaving critics scratching their head over this peculiar design choice. Is the Toq a terrible first attempt? Certainly not, and early adopters will certainly enjoy what it can offer. But in a category that is still waiting for its signature product, the Toq is yet another device that misses the mark.
