Engadget Review

Roku's Streaming Stick+ packs a lot of features into a small device. It brings together 4K/HDR and speedy performance for just $70. And while it's not as portable as the cheaper Streaming Stick, it's still easy to move around.

Pros
  • Features 4K/HDR
  • Only $70
  • Fast performance
  • Voice search works well
  • Portable and works over USB power
Cons
  • No Dolby Vision HDR
  • No Alexa integration like the Fire TV

The Roku Streaming Stick+ is an easy pick for 4K HDR TV owners, as it effectively replaces our previous pick, the Roku Premiere+, with better features and a lower price.

Videophiles with 4K HDR TVs who want thousands of apps for relatively little money should pick up a Roku Streaming Stick+ without hesitation. If you're still using a 1080p TV or want to use physical storage, though, look elsewhere.

The Roku Streaming Stick Plus is another step along the path making 4K HDR just work, but until Vudu or Google or Amazon get it together and offer movies in HDR10, it’s not that much of an upgrade over an older 4K Roku.

A couple years ago, it took a black box the size of a stack of pancakes to do what the new Roku Streaming Stick+ can do now. ... Moore’s Law is a cool thing, especially when it’s realized before your very eyes. And good hardware that comes cheap is cool no matter what.

If you’re in the market for a 4K streamer that works with both Amazon and Google’s services, though, has a remote control and a silky smooth interface, the Roku Streaming Stick+ is a highly appealing option.

At the $69.99 price point, it’s an easy recommendation unless you have a fairly recent Roku. There is just not enough reason here to pick up the Rock Stick+. If you’re looking to jump into Roku, then go for it.
