How we score

The Engadget Score is a unique ranking of products based on extensive independent research and analysis by our expert editorial and research teams. The Global Score is arrived at only after curating hundreds, sometimes thousands of weighted data points (such as critic and user reviews).

Engadget Summary

Sharp's Elite line of LCD TVs are among the best models available, with deep black levels, a 38,262:1 contrast ratio, and excellent 3D performance. Custom settings provide a huge range of options, and there are 5 HDMI ports, built-in Wi-Fi, and the usual set of smart TV streaming options, including Netflix, Pandora, and Vudu. Downsides include limited viewing angles -- though this is no worse than you'll get from most LCD sets -- and a price that shows that Sharp takes the Elite name seriously. If you can afford one of these sets, go ahead and get one; it's unlikely that you'll be disappointed. Otherwise, shop around, but don't look at one of these first, or you may just be hooked.
