Conan will start speaking Russian later this year
Funcom today announced a partnership with huge Russian developer/publisher 1C Company to localize Age of Conan for the Russian-speaking market. All text and voices in the game will be translated to Russian, and 1C will provide customer support and community services to the Russian community. There will also be a Russian server. This is all due in Q4 of this year.The English language version of the game has already been released in Eastern Europe, and it's done pretty well. All the marketing hype quotes in the press release stress that the game will be a massive success when available in the native tongue of the region. We're not going to make any predictions about that, but this is probably good news either way if your native language is Russian and you're already playing the game.
1C announces first console titles: Captain Blood and IL-2 Sturmovik
Russia-based publisher 1C games has announced its first titles for "next-gen" (or what we're actually now calling "current-gen") consoles: Captain Blood and the less-catchily-titled IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey.Captain Blood (pictured above) is an Xbox 360 and PC action game based on the Rafael Sabatini pirate novel of the same name. IL-2S:BoP, meanwhile, is being developed for Xbox 360 and PS3, with portable versions in development for DS and PSP (no Wii love, it seems).No details on the gameplay or plot of Birds of Prey, but our deductive reasoning tells us it will likely be either about fighter planes, or predatory fowl. Guesses?
Birds of Prey hunt the DS
European PC publisher 1C is trying its hand at the current-gen consoles and handhelds, including everything except the Wii in its latest venture, IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey. Browsing through 1C's resume, we didn't find anything of note, but the again we're not really in-the-know when it comes to PC gaming. If former endeavors are any indication of future performance, the fact that the company's previous IL-2 Sturmovik games rated well on Metacritic is a bit soothing. We'll be interested to see if 1C can translate its PC success onto the DS, although newbie DS developer DiP Interactive isn't the most confidence-inspiring of choices. As for the game's premise, IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey is a World War II flight simulator that lets the player engage in five airborne battles: The Battle of Britain, Stalingrad, Berlin, Sicily and Korsun.Since 1C is a European publisher, we're going to assume that this game is only for Europe until we hear differently.
Wax nostalgic over King's Bounty website, screenshots
King's Bounty. For the younger set the name might not mean much, though it's more likely that you're familiar with the series it later gave rise to in New World Computing's Heroes of Might and Magic. King's Bounty, released for personal computers in 1990 and even ported to the Sega Genesis a year later, was an early take on the turn-based strategy genre. Now, nearly two decades after the game's release, European studio 1C has decided to knock the dust off the old girl and give her a new coat of paint with King's Bounty: The Legend for the PC.1C describes the game as a "true rejuvenation" of the PC classic, though we're having to balance enthusiasm for revisiting our youth with the fact that the game is being coded by a completely unknown outfit known as Katauri Interactive. Still, judging by the title's newly launched website, which is home to details, videos, and enough screens to choke a horse, we can't help but be a little interested. Atari is set to publish the game when it's released, though it's currently anyone's guess when that will be. Even so, with both this, and Ubisoft's previously announced Heroes of Might and Magic Kingdoms in the pipeline, those of us at Joystiq proper with a thing for strategy are feeling a sensation all too uncommon.
