  • Dell now suggesting 3007WFP-HC in place of delay-ridden 3008WFP

It looks like Dell's on again, off again relationship with its top-end 3008WFP monitor has taken another turn, with the company now suggesting that customers may want to consider the previous 3007WFP-HC model if they don't want to face "extended lead times" (apparently on the order of 3-5 weeks). Given the $800 price difference, that may not actually be such a bad idea -- assuming you can make do without DisplayPort, that is.[Thanks, Mert]

  • Dell's 3008WFP is available again, technical issues resolved

For those of you waiting with bated breath for Dell's gargantuan 3008WFP 30-inch LCD to return from technical-issue-town, your prayers have been answered. The monster display is back on the company's virtual shelves, presumably with that "small technical issue" wiped out of existence. So go for it people; that larger-than-life game of Crysis won't wait forever.[Thanks, Mert]

  • Sales cease on Dell 3008WFP 30-incher due to "technical issue"

Looks like Dell's run into some issues with its highest end monitor, the droolworthy DisplayPort-packing 30-inch 3008WFP. We heard it'd mysteriously vanished from the site with nary a trace, so we pinged the folks in Round Rock. This is what they had to say:"The Dell 3008 monitor has been well received since launch and has been very popular with customers. In February we experienced a small technical issue with the product that has been long resolved. [Um, it's only April? -Ed.] Currently the monitors are on extended lead times and in order to manage demand, the 3008 is not available on dell.com. We are managing orders on a prioritized basis and hope to have the product available to all customers in the near future."So there you go, down but not out. Expect 'em back, um, eventually.[Thanks, Duane]

  • Dell 3008WFP hands-on!

We know the thing isn't even barely out, but we feel like we've already spent a lifetime waiting to check out the Dell 3008WFP. It's huge, it's bright, its color is beautiful, and perhaps most importantly, it has DisplayPort. Kinda unsightly base be damned, we want one. No, make that two.%Gallery-13145%

  • Dell 3008WFP 30-inch monitor review roundup

The 3008WFP widescreen LCD, everyone's favorite, 30-inch, DisplayPort-rocking Dell monitor is up for review, and we've got a roundup to prove it. If you'll recall, the behemoth is the first Dell monitor to sport the emerging DisplayPort technology, and it also offers a fairly impressive set of other connectivity options, including dual DVI ports, HDMI, VGA, S-Video, component, and composite. The folks at Hot Hardware weren't totally stoked on the setup process, but loved the screen's performance and flexibility. The cats at Computer Shopper seemed pleased as well, though not head-over-heels in love, particularly with the high price tag and color / grayscale "weakness." CNET Australia had similarly high marks, praising the number of inputs, super-high resolution, and sheer size, though they took issue with the screen's reflectiveness, the need for a high-end graphics card, and gradient handling. Still, none of the minuses stopped them (and Hot Hardware) from bestowing their "Editor's Choice" award on the monitor. Don't take our word for it, though -- hit the links and see for yourself.Read - Hot Hardware (Editor's Choice)Read - Computer Shopper (8.0 out of 10)Read - CNET Australia (8.9 out of 10)

  • Dell's 3008WFP 30-inch LCD with DisplayPort sneaks available -- in US too

So, Flight of the Conchords never made it quite clear what's so special about New Zealand anyways, but Dell has heaped mystery upon mystery by leaking its upcoming 3008WFP UltraSharp onto its NZ online store. We knew the 30-incher was coming, with DisplayPort as its primary claim to fame, but there's plenty else to like. The screen packs a 2560 x 1600 resolution, 370 nits of brightness, 8ms response times, a 3000:1 contrast ratio, and DVI-D (with HDCP), HDMI, S-Video, component and composite plugs just in case. Hopefully we're looking at some sort of silly exchange rate silliness for the price, since NZ$2,699 (about $2,050 US) is roughly double what Dell is charging for its existing 30-inch 3007WFP display. Obviously, no word on when this will hit the States, but all signs point to soon.Update: Ha! It's now on the US site for $2,034 with a shiny green "Buy Now" button and 2 day shipping. Anyone want to purchase and tempt our envy? Also available in Japan starting tomorrow according to official Dell press release. Now, you do have a DisplayPort video card, right?%Gallery-12030%[Thanks, JoseQ and dshankar]

  • Dell's 30-inch 3008WFP display to rock DisplayPort

Samsung's already claimed the title of first announced display to sport a DisplayPort connector, but it looks like Dell's about to enter the game with an upcoming 30-inch panel, the 3008WFP. The update to the much-loved 3007WFP will apparently feature the same 2560 x 1600 resolution, but input options are vastly improved: in addition to that DisplayPort, you're getting HDMI, VGA, component video, two DVI, S-Video, and composite. No word on any other improvements, but with that many inputs, we're pretty certain you can find something to plug into this thing and be happy. Now if only Dell would hurry up and ship that sweet-looking 30-inch DisplayPort concept we saw a while back, we'd be all set.
