We don't really get too reflective here at Engadget -- usually we're too busy getting news up to think much about ourselves. Still, when you hit your 5th birthday, you tend to want to look back and review how far you've come. We thought there'd be no better way to celebrate the milestone than by having the site's founder Peter Rojas, and instrumental architect Ryan Block on the show to discuss the early days of Engadget. So without further ado -- sit back and enjoy our 5th birthday podcast! Like the Optimus Maximus, the Xbox 360 is a gadget that's been around on Engadget almost as long as... well, the site itself. Remember that exciting live launch coverage we did back in 2005? Now that was good, clean fun. Anyhow, without further ado, we're happy to present part 2 of Engadget's birthday giveaway session: a mystery Xbox 360 package. We can't tell you what's in the box here, but we can tell you that it's totally awesome. The best part? We've got not one, but two separate prizes to give away! Don't miss out -- you'll kick yourself if you do. All you've got to do is let us know what your favorite post from the last five years has been in the comments below. Note: We've bolded the above statement for a reason. Do it. The rules: Leave a comment below. We want to hear what your favorite Engadget post has been from the last five years -- and feel free to be descriptive! You may only enter this specific giveaway once. If you enter this giveaway more than once you'll be automatically disqualified, etc. (Yes, we have robots that thoroughly check to ensure fairness.) If you enter more than once, only activate one comment. This is pretty self explanatory. Just be careful and you'll be fine. Contest is open to anyone in the 50 States, 18 or older! Sorry, we don't make this rule (we hate excluding anyone), so be mad at our lawyers and contest laws if you have to be mad. Winners will be chosen randomly. Two (2) winners will receive one (1) mystery Xbox 360 package each. Approximate retail value is incalcuable. If you are chosen, you will be notified by email. Winners must respond within three days of the end of the contest. If you do not respond within that period, another winner will be chosen. Entries can be submitted until Friday, April 17th, at 11:59PM ET. Good luck! Full rules can be found here.

  • Engadget's 5th birthday giveaway, part 1: win an Optimus Maximus keyboard!

When you hit the ripe old age of 5, you start to look back upon the years with a certain wistful nostalgia. We'd be lying if we said we didn't get just a little bit misty-eyed thinking about the Optimus Maximus. Like so many of the gadgets we've seen, we followed this little guy from its early design stages, right up into a full hands-on with the quasi-mythical piece of gear. So, it's not without a small amount of sadness that we release this keyboard back into the wild, where it belongs, where a new user will be confused and frustrated with how hard it is to type on. All you've got to do is let us know what your favorite post from the last five years has been in the comments below. Note: We've bolded the above statement, since it seems like you guys aren't following the rules. The rules: Leave a comment below. A wise man once said: "Life moves pretty fast -- if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." At Engadget, that's more than true. We're usually so busy with our heads down -- fingers furiously tapping away on keyboards, news flying in at a breakneck pace -- that we barely have time to take measure of it all. We've been so busy, in fact, that we somehow managed to miss our own 5th birthday... by over a month! If you want to date check that, you can read our very first post right here. Luckily, we happen to have the most amazing group of readers in the world, and one of them, rock99rock, shook us out of our news-trance and reminded us that we should probably spare a little time for reflection. So, we don't want to make a huge deal of it, but we do want to thank everyone who visits the site everyday and keeps making it what it is. We'd be nothing without the eyes and minds of the obsessive, brilliant, and frankly handsome fans that are as voracious about reading tech news as we are about writing it. You're the soul of Engadget, and we thank you from the bottom of our cold, robotic hearts. -Team Engadget Bonus round: Stay tuned for a contest in celebration of the big event coming later today -- and have some cake for us!
