ROCCAT's latest addition to its family of mice is the Kone Pure, toned down to 91 percent the size of the original Kone. Now both smaller and flatter, it's dropped the menu button above the four-direction scroll wheel, and that scroll wheel now goes only up and down. It's a trade-off, but ROCCAT has added a new 'easy shift' side trigger which it hopes will ameliorate that fall in the button-count. This acts as a mouse-based shift function and you can customize how all of the device's other buttons behave when the side-trigger is depressed. ROCCAT also threw in a new FX version of its ISKU keyboard here at Gamescom, adding some customizable color skills and upgraded keys that are far more legible when not backlit -- a common complaint with the original ISKU keyboard. Switching from black to white fittings under the keys has also improved the keys' visibility. Take a tour of both devices in the galleries, then jump after the break for a little more detail -- including a new prototype. %Gallery-162489% %Gallery-162507%

  • Intel bolsters its offerings with three new CPUs

Intel is keeping a rightly low-key approach with this announcement, but if you're somehow not satisfied with any of its current processor offerings, you may find something more to your liking among the three it slipped out over the Labor Day weekend. Those include the 45nm Core 2 Quad 8200, which clocks in at 2.33GHz with 4MB of L2 cache and a 1333MHz FSB, and gets a somewhat more budget-friendly $230 price tag at the expense of support for things like Intel's Virtualization Technology and Trusted Execution Technology. If that's a bit much, you can also now snag the dual-core, 2.5GHz E5200, which packs 2MB of L2 cache and 800MHz FSB for $84, or the single-core 65nm Celeron 450, which rolls in at a respectable 2.2GHz and includes 512K of L2 and an 800MHz FSB for a mere $53. Field report tidbits from Engadget's mobile insider, the Boy Genius. It has been confirmed to me that RIM will have a BlackBerry with WiFi most likely in time for a Christmas release this year. The device is said to be an 8700-type form factor. Also confirmed is a QWERTY BlackBerry with built-in camera, and similar specs to the current Pearl / 8100, except with more RAM, a faster processor, and most likely an updated camera as well. This model is the BlackBerry 8200. The device is said to be the same size or very close to the Motorola Q. RIM is still testing out different hardware configurations and colors, but black seems to be the choice. I'm working on getting pics, so stay close![Man, Boy Genius is seriously in love with the BlackBerry these days! -Ed.]
