Amped Wireless, as you know, is the plucky outfit that builds WiFi routers designed to cover huge spaces with internet. This time out, however, the company has decided to develop a range extender that, like a few others in its class, comes with a 3.5-inch touchscreen for easy setup. According to Amped, the biggest reason that WiFi gear gets returned is a lack of "user friendliness," because lots of people aren't comfortable plugging in an Ethernet cable and heading over to 192.168.1.1. This way, all a person has to do is follow along with the on-screen instructions and boom, their home network is set up within a matter of minutes. Once you're done, the screen will even display a clock, so at least you'll nave a reason not to cram it into a cupboard.

If you have a wireless router that is more than 5 years old, you may want to start looking for a new one. I have several friends who have asked me why their brand-new computer seems to have such bad internet performance over WiFi. After some investigation, I found a range of old and outdated wireless routers to be the culprit. The team at Amped Wireless has the perfect solution for you. Modernizing your Network with Amped Wireless Amped Wireless offers a high-power dual-band WiFi router dubbed the RTA15. This router is an extremely fast (1 gigabit per second) extended-range connectivity center designed for the home and office. The RTA15 features the latest 802.11ac WiFi technology delivering up to 3x faster speeds than standard 802.11n. With a combination of 10 high-powered signal amplifiers and three discrete band antennas, you will never find yourself playing Twister or duct taping your router to the ceiling trying to get a good solid connection. How many wireless devices in your household? When most of us crafted our home wireless networks, we set them up for one or two home computer configurations; slightly more for the office. Now for each person in the space, there are on average three to four signal hitchhikers. The RTA15 is designed to handle multiple HD media streams simultaneously and not be slowed down by a gaggle of WiFi enabled signal hungry devices in your space. What if your computer doesn't natively support 802.11ac? Amped Wireless has you covered here too with the RTA15's companion ACA1 WiFi USB Adaptor. This adaptor features dual high-gain 5dBi antennas, a high-powered signal amplifier and fast data transfer via USB 3.0 connectivity. This adaptor is compatible with any WiFi router if you're just looking to gain a significant signal boost from your current setup. I tested these devices for a month and I give them a solid stamp of approval together as a bundle and equally strong as individual products. Just for posterity, a few improvements could include some adjustments in the installation process, a better design of the UI for the dashboard and a more attractive router (but I'm spoiled by Apple aesthetics). The RTA15 and ACA1 retail for US$189.99 and $89.99, respectively, or as a bundle at $269.99

We know you've got questions, and if you're brave enough to ask the world for answers, here's the outlet to do so. This week's Ask Engadget inquiry is from Richard, who needs a router capable of handling all of his not-inconsiderable household traffic. If you're looking to send in an inquiry of your own, drop us a line at ask [at] engadget [dawt] com. "I'm looking into buying a router than can handle Netflix streaming to my Blu-Ray player, a wireless printer, two smartphones, a tablet, an always-on desktop, external HDD and an Airave signal booster. My Linksys WRT45G can't handle two data-heavy connections at the same time, so I have to restart it when it drops. I'll need something hefty, but under $200 would be ideal, if it's got a USB 3.0 connection for my HDD, even better. Distance isn't as important as stability and capacity, since I've got a single-level 3 bedroom house. Thank you!" Several of our staffers are fans of Netgear's N900, a dual-band unit that can certainly handle everything you'd care to throw at it, although it does only have USB 2.0 ports. There's always Amped's R20000G, but whilst we know its signal strength is good, we don't know how well it could handle a hefty load. But that's just our first thoughts, plenty of you out there will know the answer, so celebrate the long weekend and share your knowledge in the comments below.

Is your computer positioned just that little bit too far away from your home router to get consistent internet access? Amped Wireless is here for you with a pair of USB adapters that promise you'll never have to tilt your machine to maintain signal again. The UA1000 pushes out 500mW of power over the 2.4GHz band, will clip to your laptop screen and, if you connect it to two USB ports instead of one it'll be even more powerful. Meanwhile, the UA2000 can switch between its high-range 2.4GHz and low-interference 5.0GHz radios to ensure the best reception in the darkest corners of your home or office. The former will set you back $80 while its dual-band cousin retails at $100 and you can pre-order both from today.
