Apple recently announced it would be making some major changes to its Apple Affiliate Program. As of August 19, the program is under the Performance Horizon Group (PHG) network, giving affiliates access to more countries and better reporting tools. Thanks to the update, the program will be able to monetize web traffic from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Turkey, the Middle East, Africa and a large number of countries in Asia. There's just one hitch. Members of the Affiliate Program need to set up a new account and update all of their existing links by October 1, 2013. Thankfully, iOS and Mac developer David Smith has written a delightful walkthrough of the new process for making links for Apple's new program, including how to track your link's performance. The process is simple, and involves simply adding your affiliate token number to the end of your iTunes link, taking something that looks like this: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/scribblenauts-remix/id444844790?mt=8 And making it look like this: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/scribblenauts-remix/id444844790?mt=8&at=InsertTokenNumberHere Head over to David's blog for his full run down. Apple has provided their own FAQ about the new process on their site.

If you write a blog, own a website or otherwise monetize your web presence, you should care about the new changes in the Apple Affiliate Program. Apple announced today it is bringing in a new affiliate program partner for its iTunes, App Store, iBooks Store and Mac App Store affiliate program. Performance Horizon Group (PHG) adds more countries (more than 100) and better reporting tools to the program. The expanded country list includes: United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Turkey and many countries in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Europe and South America are still handled by Tradedoubler. If you already have affiliate links with iTunes, App Store, iBooks and the Mac App Store, then you need to "set up a new affiliate account and update all existing links by October 1, 2013." You can visit Apple's Affiliate Program page to join the new PHG network. Apple's affiliate program pays you a small "commission on all qualifying revenue generated by links to our stores," according to the the Affiliate Program Overview. You must apply as an affiliate through Apple's online application. Apple reviews your application within five business days, but notes that you must provide your website link or a link to an app on the App Store. Apple does not say if existing affiliates will be approved automatically within the new system.
