The Blizzard developers have posted their answers to the latest round of the Ask A Dev series, this time focusing on professions. Some of the major highlights: Blizzard wants to add more "fun themed" items in enchanting, like magic lanterns. Blizzard will "give it a shot" at adding unique icons if you're tracking more than one harvestable item in the minimap. Book of Glyph Mastery will no longer be required -- discovery spells will let you discover every possible glyph! Chaos Orbs will become unbound in a future patch. Archaeology dailies are being added in a future patch. After the break, the full answers to Ask A Dev #7: Professions.

Free Realms has released its January Ask a Dev video, and it's another fun one. Game Designer Margaret Krohn and Lead Character Artist Matt Case are back to answer more questions from Free Realms players, this time with a slightly more personal angle added. They began by talking about some of the new Marketplace and Coin Shop items coming up, including housing items, pets, and clothing. Matt and Margaret both hinted at new housing locations and decorating items in the future, so we'll be keeping an eye out for those. The video explored a different series of questions next, starting with "How was your holiday break?", and then spending some time exploring the things that Matt and Margaret like the most in game, what they've been having fun with in Free Realms, and their favorite things about working for Sony Online Entertainment. Follow along after the jump to take a look at the video for yourself!

We're noting that there's a slew of Halloween events happening in the MMO world this month, and it comes as no surprise that Free Realms is getting in on the fun as well with a "Super Spooktacular" Halloween update. This is the topic of the latest "Ask a Dev" video with Associate Game Designer Julie Burness and Lead Character Artist Matt Case. The Q&A is done in costume, with questions from the players themselves on the Free Realms forums. The Free Realms devs discuss the new content which includes Halloween themed quests, werewolf and dinosaur costumes, and all kinds of holiday items -- like candy that turns players into... something else. There's going to be trick-or-treating in Free Realms as well, where players will have to scare others to get treats. We've got the video for you, so stick with us after the jump for the Free Realms "Ask a Dev" devoted to the Super Spooktacular Halloween update.

Good news for anyone wishing they could personally ask the City of Heroes team questions. NCsoft has decided to bring back the "Ask a dev" feature due to recent expansions of the NorCal team that works on City of Heroes. The very first developer who gets to be pelted with questions is a Mr. Bruce Harlick, who happens to be a senior designer on the team. If you've got any burning questions about upcoming changes/improvements to missions, storylines or their supporting systems head on over to the official forums to ask.We suppose you could ask about stuff that's not related to his job, but you're much less likely to see an answer if you do. Then again, if you were to ask something completely out of left field, he may just respond out of pure curiosity. We know that we probably would!

  • AoC Ask a Dev: Week in Review

Once again we're treated to an insightful AoC "Ask a Dev" Q&A, courtesy of Ten Ton Hammer. In this week's installment, we get a look into some of the smaller details on the minds of players as we get closer to retail release. This includes everything from hardware requirements to accounting details. One of the most interesting features of this article is the mention of mount speed as it relates to travel and mounted combat. Apparently, there will be three speeds: walk, trot and gallop. Galloping will be achieved by holding down the shift key, yet it prevents mounted combat and actually drains the horse's stamina. This seems to be a higher level of mount usage that has not only been overlooked in current MMOs, but may be a sign of things to come with future MMOs, if it goes over well with AoC players.

Have a question you'd like to pose to Vince D'Amelio, City of Heroes Senior Programmer? If so, the WarCry Network wants to hear from you. The concept behind the "Ask a Dev" series is elegant in its simplicity: find a CoX developer who has the time to answer questions, ask the community what questions they most wish answered, then put the two together and have the issues addressed by the minds behind the game.So go ahead, ask your questions, you know you want to. And remember, there's no such thing as a stupid question, only a stupid Rikti.
