Netflix is distancing itself from the term 'binge-watching'

The Oxford online dictionary has seen a spate of zeitgeist-related inclusions in recent times – 2014 was a particularly busy year, with "yolo," "clickbait" and "adorbs" working their way into the wordy hall of fame. Ditto "binge-watch," a term used to describe the consecutive hours and hours lost to watching new series releases, and often synonymous with Netflix, the platform that facilitates exactly that. But it seems Netflix isn't too keen on that phrase.

Although Netflix is doubling down on original content, the streaming service still heavily relies on content produced by TV networks. AMC has proved a valuable partner, allowing the company to syndicate the final season of Breaking Bad and offer episodes soon after they aired in the US. The same can be said of its spin-off, Better Call Saul, which premiered on Netflix in February 2015 and has today returned for a second season.

It's back! We could be talking about Street Fighter 5 or Better Call Saul and it still works. Somehow The Grammys tonight is being pushed back by those two debuts, while Hulu is already streaming the series premiere of 11.22.63. Of course, if you prefer Netflix, then just wait until Friday morning when it drops Judd Apatow's new series Love as well as Cooked. On Blu-ray we have Steve Jobs, and Xbox One owners can finally dive in to Rocket League, now featuring cars based on Halo and Gears of War. Look after the break to check out each day's highlights, including trailers and let us know what you think (or what we missed).

Yes, Sunday is Super Bowl time. Panthers vs. Broncos to decide this season's NFL champion. In the run up to that however, we have a pair of true-crime series kicking off, as FX presents a show about the O.J. Simpson trial, and ABC has a two-night event focusing on Bernie Madoff. If you prefer fictional sleaze however, we recommend catching up on season one of Better Call Saul, conveniently arriving on Netflix streaming here in the US just in time before season two starts airing on AMC next week. On Syfy, it's time for the season finale of The Expanse, while ESPN has a new 30 for 30 documentary about the '85 Bears. Of course, if you've been waiting for the last few episodes of Mad Men to start streaming then those will be available on Netflix Friday morning, at the same time as Hannibal Burress' new special, Comedy Camisado. For gamers, Mojang's new game Cobalt is out on PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Look after the break to check out each day's highlights, including trailers and let us know what you think (or what we missed).

If you've been struggling to keep up with the mammoth amount of television these days, 2015 didn't do you any favors. We saw more original series than ever from Netflix (most of which are definitely worth a watch), as well as a slew of great shows from established networks. Some call this the era of peak television -- we just like to think of it as the age of binge watching.

Recommended Reading highlights the best long-form writing on technology and more in print and on the web. Some weeks, you'll also find short reviews of books that we think are worth your time. We hope you enjoy the read. 'No Man's Sky' is so Big, the Developers Built Space Probes to Explore it for Them by Dave Tach Polygon Our own Ben Gilbert was quite smitten with No Man's Sky back at E3 2014, and Hello Games delivered more info on the PS4 title at this week's GDC. One of the most interesting bits? The game is so big that devs had to build space probes to examine its landscape. Only the game's designers will ever see the machines, but they're tasked with zooming around the title's 18 quintillion worlds shooting video footage of what they encounter.

If you're still hearing arguments against cord cutting, your frenemies are probably saying that you can't watch Better Call Saul, Mad Men and Portlandia without resorting to piracy. Now that IFC and AMC are joining Sling TV's basic $20 a month "Best of Live TV" package, you can shove their words right back into their stupid jerk faces. For the moment, you'll only be able to watch the shows as they're broadcast, but Sling is promising that on-demand services are coming soon. In addition, the long-promised "Hollywood Extra" bolt-on will launch, offering movie content from EPIX and Sundance TV. We'd make a labored pun about you slinging your cable subscription into the trash, but someone else probably already did it.
