While we understand our bodies' natural inclination to produce both tears and blood during times of emotional duress and physical injury, we'd hate to have to be forced to choose between the two. If the question is more metaphorical however, as is the case in this new Might & Magic Heroes VI trailer, we think we'd have to go with blood, since they appear to be the side with glowing magma creatures. You know, now that we think about it, we'd always take blood over tears, especially in literal situations.

Those eager to overthrow evil in a polite, turn-based manner will have to wait a bit longer before diving into Might & Magic Heroes VI. Posting on the game's official forums, Community Developer Irina Kassina has announced another delay for the role-playing strategy hybrid, this time lasting until October 13. Kassina explained that player feedback gathered during the beta, specifically relating to bugs and game balancing, highlighted the need for more development time. "Thus, we took the decision to delay the release of Might & Magic Heroes VI in order to secure a bit more time for the dev team to take into account your comments and deliver the best quality game," she wrote. The beta will begin a second phase with additional single- and multiplayer maps on August 16. If you've won a key through a community contest or pre-ordered the game, you'll be granted access to the latest round of testing. And just think of the power you'll have over us! Your glitch-detecting prowess could determine whether or not we write another post about this game being delayed.

The first developer diary for Might and Magic Heroes 6 has been released, shedding light on the game's Stronghold faction. Or, if you prefer the shorthand: Orcs. There's a lot of backstory in the video, so allow us to sum up. Orcs are big, strong, angry and ugly. Yeah, we know, pretty shocking.

Ubisoft has released a few screens showing off the Stronghold faction in the upcoming Might & Magic Heroes 6 from Black Hole Entertainment. Traditionally in the long-running fantasy strategy series, the "Stronghold" town is a wild group of degenerate races that embraces the "Might" side of the equation rather than the Magic side, and in H6, the tale is no different. Goblins, Harpies and Maulers make up the Stronghold's forces, usually preferring melee or brute force to the more arcane arts. As you can see from the screenshots, Stronghold troops are rough and tribal -- perfect for smashing some smarmy Mage's head in with a spiky club. There are a few pieces of concept art on the game's Facebook page to check out as well. M&MH6 is due out sometime next year.%Gallery-111547%

Ubisoft has announced that the sixth installment of the Heroes of Might & Magic franchise -- somewhat awkwardly titled Might & Magic Heroes 6 -- will be headed to PC next year. The game is being developed by Black Hole Entertainment, most recently known for Warhammer: Mark of Chaos and its expansion Battle March, and will feature turn-based gameplay mixed with RPG elements. It takes place 400 years before the events of Heroes of Might & Magic 5 (released in 2006) and revolves around "a family of heroes in a thrilling, epic story where Angels plot to revive an unfinished war." Check out fresh screens below and the first trailer after the break. %Gallery-99658%

  • Metareview - Warhammer: Mark of Chaos

Still smarting from the disappointing Mage Knight Apocalypse, Namco Bandai really needed a hit with Warhammer: Mark of Chaos. Adding to the pressure was the success of THQ's Warhammer series (the excellent Dawn of War), and competition from other fantasy-themed strategy titles such as Battle for Middle-earth II and Heroes V. The good news is that Hungarian developer Black Hole Entertainment delivered the dark and gritty aesthetics of the Warhammer universe, and the scores reflect their efforts. However, like many publishers of late, Namco Bandai may have compromised quality assurance to stay within the all-important holiday launch window. IGN (80/100) enjoyed the game's deep customization and attention to detail: "The visuals in general are very good. All of the unit models are finely crafted pieces of art. The modeling is great and the textures on top are excellent. They do some nice things with lighting and heat shimmer effects that make magic come alive. All of this comes with a price. The framerate can drop substantially in large battles." 1UP (70/100) is holding out for the first patch: "It's a real mess sorting things out when you get into scrums where unit overlap turns organized regiments into brawling blobs. In short, you get plenty of detail under the hood, but too few helpful barometers. It's hard not to fall under Mark of Chaos' 'almost-there' spell. Prize-winning? No, but certainly promising...if we can hold our breath for fixes." Game Informer (68/100) thinks the combat system could use some tweaking: "Lacking any sort of base-building or resource-gathering, Mark of Chaos has to get by on the RTS combat that makes up the majority of the gameplay. Unfortunately, the battles fail to distinguish themselves in any meaningful way from what we've seen in the genre for years. Hero duels (no armies allowed) invariably go to the person who spent more points in their 'dueling' skill tree – which, of course, gimps them in terms of leading an army."
