Mortal Kombat creator (kreator?) Ed Boon has come forward, labeling recent reports of Midway's Chicago branch handing out pink slips to many of the individuals who worked on Mortal Kombat vs. DC as "completely false." Last week, numerous outlets reported that the troubled publisher and developer let go of around 20 to 30 employees following the completion of both the recent cross-universe brawler and Blitz: The League II.However, speaking in an interview with GameDaily, Boon asserts that the Mortal Kombat team specifically is still together, and is already brainstorming on what to work on next. He adds that the crew is sizing up Mortal Kombat vs. DC's performance, as "it will have a good amount to do with what features we put in the next game." Of course, this says nothing of those in The Windy City who worked specifically on Midway's sequel to Blitz, or if the company decided to have them go long all the way to the unemployment line.

Although it's probably wrong to call Frank Caliendo a "John Madden impersonator," because he does a billion great impressions ranging from President Bush to William Shatner, he's definitely best known for his spot-on send up of the white-haired football legend. Both Caliendo and Jay Mohr are joining the voice cast of Midway's upcoming footballer, Blitz: The League II.Caliendo will play three different characters, the prison warden, the offensive line coordinator and the color commentator, and Mohr will be playing The Agent, which will probably be similar to the role he played in Jerry Maguire. Midway probably wants to avoid a lawsuit with NBC, the NFL, and Madden himself, so it's doubtful Caliendo will be speaking as The Coach when we get blitzed this Fall... but here's hoping. %Gallery-20859%

Confirming an earlier report, Midway has announced plans to return to the line of scrimmage this fall with its everything-but-the-license take on American football in Blitz: The League II for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. While details remain scant, the company notes that the game's story mode will be penned by ESPN Playmakers writer Peter Egan, while former New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor will also lend his chemically-enhanced likeness to the title as well. Even so, with Electronic Arts' seminal Madden franchise slated to take to the field and bankroll retail shelves this August, how exactly Midway plans to sack EA's tough actin' fat man still remains unclear.

Heading into an unfamiliar gaming genre (sports game, oh my!), today we bring you the debut trailer for the Madden 09 "competitor", Blitz: The League II. There's a lot of attitude, a lot of rain, a lot of mud and face-masking (see, we do know some sports lingo), all giving it that signature Blitz feel. Good or bad. But our biggest gripe with this debut trailer is the fact that there's absolutely zero in-game footage. Nada none. Enjoy watching it though.
