Field report tidbits from Engadget's mobile insider, the Boy Genius. The Boy Genius dropped another one on us folks, check out this excerpt from a recent Verizon product timeline. Pantech will be launching a Windows Mobile 5 clamshell device -- running Pocket PC, suprisingly -- come September 4th, the PN-820 we saw in the FCC. That should also be the same day they launch the VX9900, also spotted in the FCC, "big brother to the VX9800 [aka the V] hybrid device with a thinner, sleeker look and feel." Amen to that, because our major complaints with the V had to do with its thickness and unappealing looks. Oh, and to top it off the LG VX8500 Chocolate phone will apparently have Verizon exclusivity for the life of the handset in the US -- though we're not necessarily sure if that means Chocolate phone exclusivity, or merely CDMA Chocolate. Stay tuned.

  • The Boy Genius Report: Motorola's unnamed V3x-alike

Field report tidbits from Engadget's resident mobile insider, the Boy Genius. The Boy Genius has hooked Engadget Mobile up with the latest exclusive hotness: an unnamed Motorola prototype (one that we're hoping does not feature M-Track) obviously very closely resembling the V3x made its way into our mitts. This version, however, uses 850/1900MHz UTMS and EDGE bands, which would only imply it's headed for the States. Its main shooter is your usual two megapixel sensor, the second being a 0.3 megapixel videoconferencing camera. But the software is where this thing really shines, though; it blows every other Moto out of the water. Press the power button and in less than five seconds the device is fully booted -- the rest of the interface feels just as responsive. It also sports A2DP and stereo speakers, 64MB of internal memory, and a MicroSD slot. Our info implies this thing, whatever it's called, could see a Q3/Q4 release on you-know-who (most probably right before the holidays). Click on for some more snaps.

  • The Boy Genius Report: HTC Hermes & StarTrek, and iPAQ hw6920 coming to US

Field report tidbits from Engadget's mobile insider, the Boy Genius. If this latest Boy Genius scoop is correct, then Cingular's also launching a slew of Windows Mobile phones this summer, some less surprising than others. The HP iPAQ hw6920/25 was more or less expected any time now, and should have WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, EDGE data, and MSFP / AKU2, as expected (you probably already knew the rest). The HSDPA-equipped HTC Hermes is also making its way to these shores, not exactly to the surprise of anyone at Engadget who've been expecting this phone on Cingular for quite some time -- but all the same it's pleasant knowing we'll finally wrap our mitts on a Hermes of our own some time in the September / October range. But what we weren't expecting (at least not so soon) was Cingular to launch the HTC StarTrek in August / September, which will quickly shame all you early adopters and RAZR-haters who wanted to get their hands on an import as quickly as possible. Keep an eye out for further details as we snag 'em.

Boy Genius has plenty more Cingy launch timetable info to share with us, dear readers, and one of the most interesting is a new BlackBerry device dubbed the "Stealth." The disappointment for us is that it's probably another SureType device, and all signs point to EDGE data, not UTMS. With what we could gather from the legend, the Stealth will include an MP3 player (huh?), removable memory, but sadly still no camera. The Stealth appears to be slated for release in the October / November timeframe.

  • The Boy Genius Report: Motorola will find you!

Field report tidbits from Engadget's resident mobile insider, the Boy Genius."I received information from a source of mine and this kind of freaks me out. Basically Motorola has a new tracking system in all prototypes called M-Track, which will transmit all sorts of wonderful personal info on your phone directly to them. This includes, but not limited to: your phone number (obviously), SIM ID, location, cell tower, and more of the like. I understand the need to track prototypes, but c'mon Moto, some of us can't help ourselves. After all, what is better than going to the club and showing a hot girl your new unreleased Motorola phone? Nothing I say, nothing."
