The debacle continues: AT&T pulls LG CU500v, too
So, what web dev over at AT&T is getting a black mark on his next annual review? It seems now that both the Nokia N75 and the LG CU500v have been pulled from AT&T's site following an exciting morning that was shaping up to be one of the more memorable for AT&T subscribers in recent memory. It's one thing to accidentally throw up some generic, low-end flip prematurely, but to taunt us with two groundbreaking (relatively speaking) phones is super uncool. The day's not over, AT&T -- there's still time to repent -- but if the sun goes down with nary an N75 or CU500v order fulfilled, be prepared to deal with the wrath of a thousand fanboys and fangirls.

Field report tidbits from Engadget's mobile insider, the Boy Genius.Always wondered just how AT&T's one-way Video Share system was going to work? Us too, so we were more than happy to get a gander at the quick start user guide for the upcoming LG CU500v, a phone that's destined to be among the very first to support the feature. It sounds like setting it up will be a breeze (as long as both caller and callee have Video Share handsets and are in a 3G coverage area): just wait for "Video Share Ready" to appear on the display and press the camera button. Strangely, disconnecting the video feed is a more complicated operation, requiring no fewer than three button presses to accomplish. After the share is finished, the sender can save the feed to memory -- sorry receivers, you're left out of the fun here. Click on for a closeup of the instructions!

LG CU500 + Argentina = MU500
Not too far removed from its North American launch in CU500 guise, LG's metallic flip with the rotating cam is heading to South America -- this time as the "MU500." Much as the CU500 was North America's first HSDPA handset at retail, the MU500 will allegedly be Argentina's first, offering the same 1.3 megapixel cam, Bluetooth, and external music controls as its English-speaking cousin. Unlike the CU500, though -- and any phone launched since on AT&T, for that matter -- the MU500 supports video calling, a feature native to UMTS that most 3G carriers choose to deploy. LG CU500 launches Saturday on Cingular
The handset itself might not be anything spectacular in terms of specification, but one aspect of LG's CU500 clamshell makes it extraordinarily interesting: it's North America's first retail HSDPA handset. A little private investigation on our part (meaning we called a few stores) reveals that the phone officially drops in Cingular's 3G markets tomorrow, but several persistent individuals have managed to get stores in the Boston and Atlanta areas to part with their units a day early. We'd like to have you come down to Mr. Chow for a few minutes, pose with a new phone we're launching, smile, maybe answer a few questions about your illustrious career, and generally act like you give a crap. We'll snap a few photos and throw in a couple hundred bucks to make it worth your time. Whadya say?" We're guessing LG's CU500 HSDPA video-calling clamshell is getting ready to roll, now that Hollywood's B-list has come out in full force to promote it.
