Mozilla is showing an even stronger commitment to a diverse workplace, thanks to a new pledge by its CEO to fire an "employee" who feels otherwise. In a project meeting, Chris Beard called out a Reddit user by the name of aoiyama who claims to work for the firm, saying that their use of hate speech will not be tolerated. The individual has expressed delight in the recent departure of Christie Koehler, saying that "everyone was glad to see the back" of the firm's community organizer. The user then added that "when she and the rest of her blue-haired, nose-pierced asshole feminists are gone, the tech industry will breathe a sigh of relief."

  • Mozilla makes interim CEO's job permanent

Mozilla must've really liked Chris Beard during his time as interim CEO because he is now the real, actual CEO of the company, "interim" prefix not required. Beard took over the reins of the firm in April after former CEO Brendan Eich stepped down amidst political backlash -- Eich had made contributions to an anti-same sex marriage bill in California. Though it's only been a few months, Beard appears to have proved himself worthy of the CEO role. As with Eich, Mozilla's current focus is to further its efforts on mobile. According to a recent blog post by Executive Chairwoman Mitchell Baker, "Chris has a keen sense of where Mozilla has been -- and where we're headed [...] There's simply no better person to lead Mozilla as we extend our impact from Firefox on the desktop to the worlds of mobile devices and services."

  • Mozilla picks interim CEO as it tries to move past controversy

Previous CEO Brendan Eich lasted just 11 days as head of the Firefox company. He resigned last week amid political backlash; Eich contributed $1,000 to California's controversial Proposition 8, a bill that would've ended the legality of same-sex marriage in California. That bill was eventually struck down by the US Supreme Court, and last week Eich was similarly struck down by uproar to his financial contribution. As of today, Mozilla's appointing Chris Beard to its CEO position (as well as giving him a seat on the company's board). Beard's been with Mozilla for years, and the company says it was exploring the idea of adding him to the board for some time (regardless of recent news, in so many words). Executive Chairwoman Mitchell Baker doesn't mention Eich or the reasons for his exit in her announcement. "In this time of transition there is no better person to lead us," Baker says of Beard. Given Beard's position is "interim" CEO, it sounds like Mozilla's still on the hunt for a new leader. Let's go right ahead and put this out there now: Any interested parties should be prepared for an especially thorough vetting process. Just a guess. [Image credit: Greylock Partners]
