  • Bungie's Destiny was teased way back in Halo 3: ODST

Bungie's Destiny has existed in one form or another since at least 2009, a new discovery in Halo 3: ODST indicates. The above image shows a poster found in ODST, which portrays a planet within close proximity to a large white sphere, with the message "DESTINY AWAITS" scrawled above. The similarities between this image and the recently leaked Destiny concept art is undeniable, especially the title screen-esque image obtained by IGN.Former Bungie employee and Halo series level designer Vic Deleon has confirmed the connection, exclaiming that the secret had "FINALLY BEEN FOUND!" on Twitter. In light of these events, we've decided to dig even further into the annals of Halo lore by running the entirety of Halo: The Fall of Reach through an anagram construction algorithm and seeing what we come up with. Should that prove fruitless, we'll start decompiling the code for Pathways into Darkness.

  • EA showing off 'marquee' title in 3D at this year's E3

[Image Credit: Frank Reese] Amidst the flurry of information in yesterday's investor call, EA COO John Schappert loosed a handful of interesting tidbits about his company's presence at this year's E3. Did you know that the publisher's sports arm will be showing off new titles across the board, as well as unveiling unannounced games "that make use of the new motion controllers from Sony and Microsoft" Neither did we! Okay, alright, we probably could've guessed that much. But we certainly didn't expect Mr. Schappert to say, "We will also show a marquee title in breathtaking 3D." Following up with him via email this afternoon, he told Joystiq, "We purposely didn't give more detail so we could keep the excitement up for E3 -- so you'll have to wait until then to find out!" We pressed on whether he meant Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (spotted running in 3D earlier this year at PAX East) or if he meant a new title, but were told that we'll just have to wait and see. What we can say with unflinching certainty, however, is that the company will be showing off the recently announced Hasbro Family Game Night 3 at its presser. Sorry, we're suckers for Clue. Did that not do it for you? [Via Videogamer]

  • Hasbro Family Game Night 3 coming this fall with five more board games

Once again, it's time for us to play a quick round of "One of These Things is Not Like the Others!" Our contestants are the five titles that will be added to your ever-burgeoning collection of digital board games this fall, with the release of Hasbro Family Game Night 3 for Wii, 360 and PS3. Okay, here goes: The Game of Life, Clue, Mouse Trap, Yahtzee Hands Down and ... Twister. We'll give you a second to think. Here's a hint: We separated the weird one from the other ones using an ellipsis. Twister? We can logistically see how the other four games could be adapted into a video game format, but ... Twister? Will Hasbro Family Game Night 3 come bundled with a polka-dotted floor mat peripheral? Regardless, we'll have to find out when Game Night 3 releases this fall, as the games will come bundled in a single retail package this time around, and, well -- we just have to get our hands on a video game version of Mouse Trap.

  • EA drops Clue, Snood, and The Game of Life onto iPhone

Apparently EA Mobile didn't realize that Snood has long since lapsed as our drug of choice -- we've already found a more adept pusher in Popcap with Peggle, silly gooses! Alongside the aging methamphetamine, EA Mobile has dropped iPhone iterations of Clue and The Game of Life in the iPhone App Store for purchase as of today. The games range from $3 to $5 and have already arrived on the App Store, though we bet you're 100k points deep in Drop7 this very minute, laughing while your personal assistant reads you off the titles of the three aforementioned games. "What is this hogwash you're telling me, Winston? Surely you jest -- these games are from an era that has long since passed!" We don't jest, dearest reader. We never do.Clue: Snood: The Game of Life:

  • GDC09: Upcoming EA iPhone game list fully revealed, screens and info on Tiger

Just before the deluge of GDC 2009 news started this week, Travis Boatman, VP of worldwide studios at EA Mobile, confirmed the upcoming release of a veritable smörgåsbord of EA franchises coming to the iPhone. Today, we have confirmation from Meghan Rathman (representing EA) of the exact titles on the way to the iPhone/iTouch as well as a handful of screens from Tiger Woods PGA Tour. Unfortunately, according to Ms. Rathman, the rest of the games in development are "still too early" and don't have screens. Considering the turnaround time on iPhone/iTouch games though, we're willing to bet you'll see those shots by the end of the week pretty soon! The full list of games we received from EA is as follows: Tiger Woods PGA Tour, The Sims 3, FIFA, Madden NFL Football, Spore Creatures, Mystery Mania, Wolfenstein RPG, American Idol, Connect Four, Battleship, Need for Speed, RISK, Monopoly and Clue. Differing from reports at the GDC Mobile event earlier this week, we're seeing the addition of The Sims 3 and Need for Speed. In turn, we're losing the first SSX in two years, Red Alert, NBA Live 10, American Idol, Star Trek. But hey, Tiger Woods! The press release from EA on Tiger Woods PGA Tour tells us that the game is of the "touch" rather than of the "shake" variety, comes with achievements and offers a way to compare achievements with your friends. Of the key features listed, notably missing is "playing against friends wirelessly," though it does promise the ability to "affect your ball spin direction" using your finger. Those are comparable features, right? We'll keep on EA and let you know as soon as we find out more on their upcoming iPhone/iTouch assault.%Gallery-48706%

  • GDC09: EA quietly announces iPhone versions of major franchises

Of the many GDC 2009 announcements taking place this week, we were most shocked to see EA sneakily introducing some of the company's most popular franchises to the Apple device some are calling the newest gaming platform -- the iPhone. Travis Boatman, VP of worldwide studios at EA Mobile, made the announcement at GDC Mobile, naming SSX, Wolfenstein RPG, Red Alert, FIFA 10, Madden 10, NBA Live 10, American Idol, Spore Creatures, Clue, Risk, Mystery Mania, Connect Four, Battleship, Tiger Woods and Star Trek, according to reports from Patrick Klepek (former MTV Multiplayer writer) and Shacknews. While most of the titles are the to-be-expected EA mutliplatform titles like Madden 10 and NBA Live 10, the SSX series will be getting its first update in two years according to this announcement. Also of note, Wolfenstein RPG is of no relation to the just released Wolfenstein 3D for the iPhone; rather, it makes up half of the two iPhone games id Software is purportedly working on. Details are unfortunately scant at the moment but we've reached out to EA for comment. On a personal note, we'd like to extend our personal "WHAT THE HELL?!" regarding Risk being announced for the iPhone and still not hearing a peep on it coming to XBLA/PSN. Seriously, EA. What the hell?![Via Shacknews]

  • Rumor: Smash Bros and Metroid Prime press conference coming soon?

    05.18.2007

The clues are beginning to come together: there's a countdown on the official site of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and some rumblings of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption news coming around May 20th. In this month once reserved for the mighty E3, it's been quite some time since Nintendo has held a major press conference. Finally, good 'ol Matt has made it perfectly clear in a recent IGN Mailbag: he's on his way to Seattle next week for some mysterious reason, and it's not for Starbucks.About freakin' time, Nintendo. For a company still claiming that the big three will release in 2007, they've been awfully tight-lipped about the impending trio. We look forward to bringing you some surely awesome news coming next week ... uh, you know, assuming that this actually happens.

  • Japanese hardware sales, 11 Dec - 17 Dec: ARG edition [update 2]

    12.22.2006

Update 2: Congratulations to Kurifurisan, Mr. Scolex, Oro, and Jennifer for successfully completing the ARG! The clues are explained below.Clue 1: As you can see below, the word Wii and the numbers 10 and 29 are highlighted in bold. This obviously refers to the Wii Fanboy blog in particular, on the date October 29th. Only one article was published on this date: Toys R' Us nonsense.Clue 2: In this post, we can immediately see that the post picture has been altered. It features four DS games: Spyro: A New Beginning, Contact, and Nintendogs (presumably the newer Dalmatian Edition). These games were all released on the same week, and thus, should have led you to the DS Fanboy post DS Releases for the Week of October 16th.Clue 3: This post had an extra final line added: "4 leaves take 5 4 good, 6 feet under. A shame, really." Silly numbers games aside, the death and departure of four leaves refers to the untimely dissolution of Clover Studios, makers of such fine games as Viewtiful Joe and Okami. This should have referred you to the final destination post, Clover Studios Goes Six Feet Under on Nintendo Wii Fanboy. If you found the cross-linked post on DS Fanboy, there was a message saying you had the wrong blog.We hope you enjoyed the game, and if you failed to complete it, you'll have some chances next year to prove your mettle. If you gain any, that is. Hah!For the uninformed, ARG stands for "Alternate Reality Gaming". That's really just a silly hype-word, we think, but here we go. Your task: follow the sequence of clues to various past posts in both Nintendo Wii Fanboy and DS Fanboy. Should you manage to defeat our ingenious riddles, post a comment on the final post to declare your victory to the world. Heck, we'll even go back and give you a star for doing it, too ... the feature is temporarily out of service, but our tech guys should have it back up and running soon.Below are the sales figures for this week, and contained therein, the first clue.- DS Lite: 319,708 10,078 (3.25%)- Wii: 108,237 22,798 (26.68%)- PS3: 70,942 20,771 (41.40%) - PSP: 48,962 20,032 (69.24%) - PS2: 37,730 7,270 (23.87%) - Xbox 360: 17,168 18,175 (51.42%) - GBA SP: 1,867 29 (1.53%) - Game Boy Micro: 1,491 64 (4.12%) - Gamecube: 1,152 583 (102.46%) - DS Phat: 158 9 (5.39%) - GBA: 42 25 (147.06%) - Xbox: 3 3 (50.00%)[Source: Media Create]
