    Lenovo's current flagship phone, the Vibe Z (K910), opted for plastic instead of metal like its predecessor, so it's nice to see metal making a comeback on the next model, dubbed the Vibe Z2 Pro. This is according to several photos that have been making the rounds on Sina Weibo, and our sources have since confirmed that these were taken at an internal event, so someone's been a bit naughty. The specs are top notch: 6-inch quad HD display, 16-megapixel OIS camera (with dual LED flash), massive 4,000mAh battery and 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 chip. These are all wrapped inside a 7.7mm-thick metallic body that also supports NFC.

    At Huawei's CES press conference, executive VP Colin Giles reminisced on 2013, when the company truly embarked on moving from an ODM to a consumer-facing OEM. By the end of the year, 95% of all handsets left its factories with the Huawei branding attached, and in Q4 2013, smartphone shipments topped 17.5 million. In the previous quarter, the Chinese phone-crafter jumped into the top three manufacturers worldwide, according to various analysts. Despite all the company's success and rapid growth, there's no intention to slow down -- Giles wrapped things up by setting Huawei's sales targets for 2014, and no less than 80 million devices will do.

    The last time we caught up with news of Colin Giles was a year ago, right after some particularly downbeat Nokia financials, when he left the Finnish manufacturer to spend more time with his family. Now, having clocked up sufficient mileage in his station wagon, he's accepted a major role at Huawei as an executive VP responsible for consumer sales and marketing. He brings with him 20 years' experience of growing Nokia's market share in Asia and beyond, including a 12-month stint within its Leadership Team, all of which will now be put to work undoing itself and potentially adding to a sense of encroachment.   • Nokia head of sales resigns, department aims to reduce 'layers of management'

    Colin Giles, Nokia's executive vice president of sales, has announced that he's stepping down. It follows the company's dour financial results for Q1 and will lead to a restructuring of the company's sales organization, aiming to strip layers from what's currently in place. Giles has been with Nokia since 1992 and was heavily involved in the company's movements in China and the larger Asia market. However, he had only been involved in Nokia's Leadership Team for just under a year. He will stay with the team until June 30 and cites a desire to be closer to his family following his departure. Announced through Nokia's official channels, the process aims to "ensure greater customer focus" -- we suppose that will involve more than just white polycarbonate.
