Just a day after announcing a Magic: The Gathering anime, Netflix has revealed another animated show based on a high-profile franchise is on the way. In 2020, it will unleash Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, which takes place at the same time as 2015's Jurassic World.

'Star Wars: Episode IX' will be directed by J.J. Abrams (updated)

It's only been a week since Colin Trevorrow left (or was forced out of) the director's seat for Star Wars: Episode IX, but a familiar replacement is already lined up. J.J. Abrams, who you may know from such films as the Star Trek reboot, Super 8 and a little film called Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be writing and directing Episode IX. It's a very safe and familiar choice -- Abrams did an admirable job handling The Force Awakens, skillfully reviving the series after George Lucas' reviled prequel trilogy. Of course, there was also criticism that he played it too safe and essentially remade A New Hope, but all but the most jaded fans found his take on the universe to be a solid return for the long-dormant franchise.

Surprise! Star Wars: Episode IX will no longer be directed by Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow, Lucasfilm announced tonight. Unfortunately, there's no word yet on who'll be replacing him, but Star Wars fans will certainly make their preferences known online. Episode IX is currently slated for a May 24th, 2019 release date -- and no, we don't know if this news means it'll be delayed. The abrupt announcement follows the last-minute firing of Han Solo directors Christopher Miller and Phillip Lord, who ended up being replaced by Ron Howard.

Star Wars: Episode VII isn't even in theaters yet, but that isn't stopping Disney and Lucasfilm from providing details about a movie two sequels ahead. They've announced that Colin Trevorrow, the director of Jurassic World, will helm Episode IX. Despite what it looks like, this isn't just an attempt to cash in on the runaway financial (though not critical) success of Trevorrow's dinosaur disaster flick. Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy says that she was "interested" in a team-up ever since she saw the meme-based movie Safety Not Guaranteed in 2012. Whatever you think of the decision, you'll have to wait a while to see how well Trevorrow follows in the footsteps of Episode VII's JJ Abrams and VIII's Rian Johnson -- the ninth title won't reach movie houses until 2019.
