'Fallout 76' Power Armor Edition buyers will get their canvas bags

Among all of its other issues since launch, some of the most dedicated Fallout fans ran into a surprising issue with their $200 "Power Armor Edition" box for Fallout 76. Despite promo materials that promised a "West Tek Canvas Carrying Bag" for the included wearable T-51 helmet, what arrived was a much more cheaply-built nylon bag. Bethesda tried to apologize by granting players 500 atoms (in-game currency worth about $5) last week, but now it's going to live up to the advertisement -- even if it's a bit late. In a tweet, Bethesda announced it's "finalizing manufacturing plans for replacement canvas bags" and said Collector's Edition purchasers should fill out a ticket by the end of January. There's no ship date specified for the bags, but at this point we just want to see something delivered that is more like what gamers thought they were getting. If they're at all disappointed by the game itself that could be a more complicated fix, but another update is rolling out today with balances, fixes and expanded stash storage. In good news for console players, while it's still a larger patch than the one for PC at 3GB vs. 36MB, at least it won't mean reinstalling the entire game (this time).

Red Dead Redemption 2 is slated to be one of this fall's biggest games. So much so that franchises that typically are released in November are getting bumped to October, in advance of RDR 2's debut on the 26th. Developer/publisher Rockstar Games is starting the hype train ahead of E3, spilling details on the game's fancy special edition, ultimate edition and collector's box sets.

Outside of its robotic remote control cars, last year Anki released a palm-sized robot companion called Cozmo. As adorable as it is intelligent, it rolls around on its tank treads using its arm to interact with the environment and a built-in camera to recognize you or even your pets. Since its debut last fall it has received at least one software update, but was only on sale in the US. Starting next month that will change when it goes on sale in Canada for $250 CA, before it expands to the UK, France, Germany and Nordic countries in September. Even if you live in the US, starting today you can order a $180 Collector's Edition of the bot that comes in a new Liquid Metal finish. Not sure if it's worth the cash? Check out our video and see if you can live without one of these rolling off of your desk every day.

  • Middle-earth Blu-ray set is gorgeous, but insanely expensive

Yes, many Lord of the Rings fans (including this writer) may be obsessive collectors, but the latest movie collection that Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are releasing this far takes things into the realm of the truly crazy. The just-announced "Middle-earth Limited Collectors Edition" includes the extended editions of all six of director Peter Jackson's films set in J.R.R. Tolkien's imagined world on Blu-ray. That gets you the three movies based on The Hobbit and three more movies that make up The Lord of the Rings. It all comes in a lavish and beautiful presentation -- but that lovely physical package will set you back a whopping $799.99.

  • 'Hyper Light Drifter' special edition comes with a SNES cart

I know what you're thinking -- another special edition for an indie game? Sure it's been done before, many times, but the Hyper Light Drifter Collector's Edition looks pretty sweet. It comes with a cyan "SNES cartridge," a 24-page manual, a 24-inch by 18-inch world map poster, a box to store it all in and a digital code for the game. That manual is particularly welcome; a full-color booklet with information on enemies, drifters, and tons of beautiful artwork. The SNES cartridge is in quotes because it's just a non-functional piece of art. Also it's a North American-style SNES cartridge, so if you owned a European or Asian console, it won't look very familiar to you.

If you've been holding off on playing Life is Strange until there was a really cool, commemorative physical release, your wait's over. Developer Dontnod's episodic game about time-traveling high school girls hits retail today with a pretty snazzy limited edition packing an art book, the game's soundtrack (featuring both licensed and original songs) and all five installments for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The collector's edition will run you $40, while the vanilla version is priced $10 cheaper. But! If you're an Amazon Prime member, Jeff Bezos is knocking $8 off the special edition and reducing the standard version's price by $6. That only applies to console copies, though.

Deadly Premonition might not be a "good" game, technically speaking, but it's wormed its way into the hearts of a very passionate cult following. With that in mind, this seemingly years-late collector's edition of eccentric Japanese developer Hidetaka "Swery" Suehiro for the PlayStation 3 (fits with the game's weirdness, right?) is packed to the gills with goodies for the fans. Custom deck of playing cards? Check. A 30-page hardcover art book? Present and accounted for. There's a soundtrack packed into the pretty swanky collector's box, the game's director's cut and a download code for additional content so you can while away a few more hours with special agent York in this very Twin Peaks Pacific Northwest, too. Perhaps best of all? The Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut - Classified Edition will only run you $50 and it releases November 24th.

  • The $200 'Mirror's Edge Catalyst' bundle might be worth it

Note the operative word, "might," in that headline. It's difficult to quantify a bundle of egregiously nerdy items, but for those with Faith in their hearts, the Mirror's Edge Catalyst Collector's Edition looks like a real treat. For $200, the Collector's Edition comes with a 14 inch statue featuring Faith as an adult and as a child, sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with a pane of glass between them, plus 10 concept-art prints, a limited-edition lithograph and steelbook case, two temporary tattoos and a box to house it all. This package will be available in limited quantities at "select retailers" for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC versions of Mirror's Edge Catalyst, and of course the full game is due to launch on February 23rd.

The many gamers buying an Xbox One for Titanfall (or don't mind the Xbox 360 and PC versions) can now mark a date on their calendars: EA says that the shooter will reach North America on March 11th, 2014. While that's more than four months away, the company is offering a Collector's Edition that just might encourage a few pre-orders among well-off players. If you can spend $250 -- yes, that's half as much as an Xbox One -- you'll get an 18-inch, LED-lit Atlas Titan figurine that's likely to be the centerpiece of your gaming den. You'll also receive an art book and a large schematic poster. You'll want to act quickly if you like the idea of a miniature (albeit stationary) robot, though. EA says that the Collector's Edition is available in "extremely limited" numbers, which suggests that supply will run out by launch day.

While we like our collector's edition games, there's no question that even the better bundles are full of knick-knacks we'll use just once or twice. No one will say the same for Codemaster's GRID 2: Mono Edition, though. The UK-only bundle includes the GRID 2 racing game, a PS3 to play it on... and a very real BAC Mono supercar. Whoever buys the £125,000 ($188,700) kit will get to both pick up the 280HP single-seater as well as customize it at the BAC factory, including the racing suit for those inevitable track days. With just one instance available for GRID 2's May 31st release, the Mono Edition bundle is more of a promotional stunt than a business strategy -- but it might be the only special edition where the extras are more exciting than the game itself.

Expect it in multiple forms, from a simple two disc combo with the movie on Blu-ray and DVD to a five disc pack that throws in a Blu-ray 3D edition and another Blu-ray full of extras, and finally the big daddy 15-disc Pirate's Chest Limited Collectors Edition (pictured above) that contains all four movies, a never before seen short film and more. There's no official announcement from Warner yet, but Blu-ray.com points out the classic movie Citizen Kane has appeared for preorder on Amazon in full 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition dress. As shown in the picture above, there's plenty of collectibles included with a book, replica documents and extra discs with two hour documentary, HBO docudrama and Orson Welles' follow-up flick The Magnificent Ambersons on DVD. There's no release date listed yet and we still don't know everything about what extras will be present, but the current price is $49.99 (or, $45.49 minus Ambersons, which is apparently coming to DVD for the first time) if you want to jump in right now.

    10.05.2010

Just in case you didn't get enough Avatar when it hit DVD and Blu-ray earlier this year, Fox has officially announced it's returning for a double-dip with the Extended Collectors Edition, packing eight hours of new material into a three disc Blu-ray or DVD set. James Cameron says the team included "everything in it the fans could possibly want" (at least, until the 3D version ships with Panasonic TVs or finally hits retail some time next year.) Disc on includes the theatrical version, special edition and Collector's Extended cut with 16 extra minutes and alternate opening scene, plus a "family audio track" with all the naughty words left out. Disc two is devoted to a long documentary on the movie and its creators, deleted scenes and production materials, while disc three holds bonuses like a BD-Live portal, interactive scene deconstruction and more. Check all the details after the break and get your blue, tailed bodysuit ready for the November 16 release date and $54.99 MSRP (international release dates are after the break.) Update: And there goes the Amazon pre-order link ($35.99)

OK, not really, but Canon was indeed giving out these novelty coffee mugs -- in the shape of an EF70-200mm f/4L USM lens -- at the Winter Olympic's press center, and here's Microsoft's Josh Weisberg (Director of Rich Media Group) showing off his swag to the whole world. Yes, we're just a bit envious. So anyone got a spare Canon L-Series lens that we can tamper with? Or maybe that big-daddy Sigma lens if you're game with sharing coffee?

  • Warner Bros. to launch Casablanca / Austin Powers Blu-ray box sets

Warner Bros. isn't content with just loosing The Polar Express on 3D Blu-ray -- oh no, it's got another pair of titles set for a holiday launch. Famed classic Casablanca will finally be getting the Blu-ray treatment it deserves this December 2nd when it arrives in Ultimate Collector's Edition form. The $64.99 package ($59.98 on DVD) is reportedly "elegantly boxed in an intricate laser-cut Moroccan design and will include such collectibles as replicas of actual props (Victor Laszlo's "Letter of Transit") as well as a number of Warner studio documents. Going from one of the greatest love stories of all time to one of the raunchiest comedies of the past, oh, score, Austin Powers Collection: Shagadelic Edition, Loaded With Extra Mojo will be uncomfortably landing alongside the aforementioned gem on the same day. The collection-only package will include the entire trilogy in Blu-ray high-def for $74.98.[Image courtesy of ValleyArts]Read - Casablanca releaseRead - Austin Powers release

  • 007: Casino Royale Collector's Edition first Blu-ray Disc to double-dip

Studios just love to re-release older titles just before a follow-up film hits the silver screen, and Sony's making darn sure it milks the 007 franchise for every dime it's worth prior to Quantum of Solace landing in theaters. Not only are six Bond classics slated to hit Blu-ray on October 21st, but now one of Sony's best-selling 007 BD titles will be joining 'em. Yep, 007: Casino Royale will be re-released in a Collector's Edition with seven hours of new material, free e-Movie Cash to catch the aforesaid QoS in cinemas, Bonus View picture-in-picture visual commentary with Director Martin Campbell and Producer Michael G. Wilson and a "Know Your Double-O" BD-Live-enabled multi-player trivia game. To our knowledge, this is the first Blu-ray title to double-dip, as we're not counting the whole Fifth Element fiasco as a true double release. Prepare to spend $38.96 for the 2-disc Blu-ray set or $29.95 for the 3-disc DVD package.[Thanks, Chris]

  • Head Coach '09 only available in Madden '09 Collector's Edition

    by

    03.28.2008

One tiny little detail about NFL Head Coach '09 seems to have been buried at the bottom of EA's announcement yesterday regarding the "Collector's Edition" of Madden NFL '09. Turns out that Head Coach '09 is only available by purchasing the $90 special edition. Just to be clear: It won't be sold separately.Madden's Marketing Director, Christopher Erb, says the decision was not made out of fear that the game couldn't stand on its own, and explains it's a way for the company to "reduce the price and make it a bonus to our fans." He's got a point, if it was at retail the two games separated would cost $120, but given the tepid response of the original Head Coach and its niche factor, this may be the best way to move units. Erb believes those who play Head Coach are hardcore Madden fans anyway and the company may consider releasing it as a separate title if there's enough outcry.

  • Amazon still has Burning Crusade CE in stock

    by

In case you really wanted it, the Burning Crusade Collector's Edition apparently isn't all that collected-- it's still in stock at Amazon for $74.99, a few bucks off the original price. The original Collector's Edition is a little harder to find-- it's been out of stock for a while, and copies are going for around $200. eBay is the same story-- you can buy the BC:CE for as little as $50, while the original CE is going for much, much more.My guess is that it's the old laws of supply and demand-- by the time Burning Crusade dropped, everyone knew it would be a hit, so Blizzard made a bunch, while the original CE probably had a lot fewer copies made. But the noncombat pets might be a draw as well-- the original CE had Diablo, Zerg, and Panda pets, while the Burning Crusade only had a pretty unimpressive Netherwhelp pet.And the other interesting question is what will happen when the next expansion drops. Being that WotLK is much more integral to the Warcraft that everyone knows and loves (while BC was much more involved with the ancient history of Warcraft), will people who've skipped Burning Crusade so far be more inclined to pick it up when Wrath releases? Maybe the BC:CE will get rarer as we get closer to Northrend.[ via WoW Ladies ]

The little RPG that could, Two Worlds has officially joined the collector's edition crowd, bonus disc and all. GamingTalkHQ spotted a listing over at Gamestop for a Two Worlds Collector's Edition and confirmed with developer SouthPeak that it is real and the listed contents were correct. So, for $10 more you'll receive a bonus disc which includes artwork, music, wallpapers and a web kit as well as a Two Worlds map and a 48 page hardbound artbook. The collector's edition will be available when the game releases on July 31st and sounds like it'd be worth the extra cash if you're into art and pretty photos. If not, standard edition for you.[Via GamingTalkHQ]
