Turtle Rock Studios' four-versus-one multiplayer shooter Evolve will receive a number of add-ons following the game's launch in February. For $25, the game's Hunting Season Pass will introduce four new playable hunters this spring, one for each class in the game. Each hunter will also be available for purchase for $7.49 each. Season pass holders will also get exclusive access to three monster skins at Evolve's launch: Magma Goliath, Magma Kraken and Magma Wraith. Turtle Rock Studios also revealed the Behemoth, a fourth playable "tank of a monster" that transforms into a rolling boulder, available this spring for $15. The Behemoth will also be part of the Monster Expansion Pack, a bonus for those that pre-order or pre-purchase Evolve. That expansion pack itself features a free Savage Goliath skin at the game's launch. Additionally, the developer revealed two special edition versions of the game today, each available for pre-purchase. Evolve's Digital Deluxe Edition features the monster-slaying game, its season pass and the Monster Expansion Pack for $80, available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. PC players get a special collector's edition to themselves as well: Evolve's $100 PC Monster Race Edition features the same goodies as the Digital Deluxe Edition as well as a fifth monster, two hunters and four monster skins that will be exclusive to PC Monster Race Edition players for 30 days. Evolve will launch on February 10 and is available to pre-download starting today on Xbox One. While you can find a new trailer for the game to showcase the Behemoth after the break, stay tuned to Joystiq Streams at 4:00 p.m. ET today for a livestream of Evolve in action. [Image: 2K Games]

    12.12.2014

Final Fantasy 15's demo will be exclusive to those with a copy of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, Square Enix revealed. In fact, the publisher confirmed via PlayStation Blog that the demo is "intended to be a special gift for those of you who purchase early," so only the first shipment of Type-0 HD will include the "Episode Duscae" demo. In September, reports began circulating that Square Enix would offer the Final Fantasy 15 demo in 2015. Episode Duscae will feature around an hour's worth of narrative content, and thorough explorers will get around three to four hours of gameplay out of the demo. Square Enix stressed today that the publisher is "never going to release [the demo] as a stand-alone piece down the line." Square Enix also divulged details on Type-0 HD's $100 Collector's Edition bundle. The Collector's Edition includes a steel book case, 15-track song collection, 200-page manga set during the events of the game's opening moments, 80-page art book and five collectible cards. Those that pre-order the Collector's Edition will gain access to Final Fantasy 15's demo as well. Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will launch on March 17, 2015. [Image: Square Enix]

Tomorrow is the launch day for World of Warcraft's fifth expansion, Warlords of Draenor. It's quite possible that you already have your collector's edition pre-ordered and ready to go, and you can't wait to open it up and see what's inside. So wouldn't you like to watch someone else open it up and see what's inside before you get to do that yourself? Michele Morrow (who also helped host the official coverage of BlizzCon 2014 this past weekend) has posted an unboxing video for the Warlords of Draenor collector's edition, going over the various bits and gewgaws located within the box. Sure, you've known about what's in the box for a while, but here's your chance to see it before you get it. If you can't wait until tomorrow to peek inside, jump on past the break to see the video.

  • Enter at Your Own Rift: Which Nightmare Tide edition is right for you?

I was fully expecting RIFT: Nightmare Tide to be out by the time I sat down to write this, but then the delay happened and I had a little unasked-for breathing room to figure out what I was going to discuss while we waited for the expansion to come out. The good news is that it should be releasing tomorrow, and we'll all be well on our way to enjoying both new high- and low-level content. However, there's one big question that each RIFT player needs to answer for her or himself, which is, "Which edition of the expansion is right for me?" Unlike some other MMOs, RIFT is not charging for its expansion at all. Trion Worlds did announce a trio of collector's editions as optional purchases, and since each of these editions has an impact on how we experience the new content, I thought it well worth examining the qualities of each as well as the benefit of not paying for it at all.

During my recent dev tour of EverQuest II's upcoming Altar of Malice expansion, Senior Producer Holly Longdale revealed the new part Shaman/part Warrior elite merc that comes with the purchase of the collectors edition and said "We're really excited about what we're offering there -- some really special stuff this year." And now we've got all those details! The standard edition will cost $39.99 and comes with a special housing item. This large painting depicts an AoM scene of an angry Lanys T'Vyl and plenty of skulls. The collectors addition for $89.99 adds the elite battle-mystic mercenary Kluuron V'Lon as well a Striped Savage Pterodon flying mount, a tyrannodon house pet, two 40-day spell research potions, three Gems of Armor Advancement, and a multi-appearance mage tower housing item to teleport to the new content. Check out what each bonus looks like in the gallery below. Altar of Malice is available to November 11th for All Access members (who also get 10% off the purchase prices) and on November 28th for everyone else.

  • Final Fantasy XIV announces special Game of the Year edition

    10.13.2014

If you've been longing to try out Final Fantasy XIV but wanted a new boxed edition of the game, you're in luck. Square-Enix has announced today that a limited edition boxed version will be available starting November 14th. Dubbed the Game of the Year Edition, it comes in a special collector's box resembling the in-game Book of Diamonds weapon, albeit most likely without the glow effects. The box contains the game with all patches loaded (including 2.4, which is scheduled for later this month), a 60-day time card, and five art cards. If you already have the game, it's unlikely that you'll need another edition, but it can make for a fine gift for friends or family who haven't yet tried the game. The edition will only be available for the PC, though, so console players are out of luck, unless you just want the box and the time card.

  • World of Warcraft addresses upgrading to the Warlords of Draenor CE

Were you one of the people who pre-purchased Warlords of Draenor as soon as the digital option was open? Do you have a mighty need to pick up the physical collector's edition but no clear process for upgrading from the digital copy? The good news is that Blizzard Entertainment has World of Warcraft fans covered with a new post detailing how you can upgrade to a physical collector's edition. Just buy another copy, contact Blizzard's customer support, and then give a friend the code from the digital upgrade that you no longer need! Yes, that's what it says. Just buy another one. Which is a system that works out pretty well for your friend, at least. If you were hoping for a simpler way to use the level 90 character boost and still get the physical doodads, however, you are apparently out of luck. The Collector's Edition is priced at $89.99 and includes both digital items and physical bonuses.

  • Need for Speed Rivals 'Complete Edition' revs up for October

    09.18.2014

The "Complete Edition" of Need for Speed Rivals will launch on October 21. The special edition package includes all of the game's previously-issued DLC, six packs in total. NFS Rivals' Complete Edition will arrive on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, and will launch three days afterwards in Europe on October 24. The Complete Edition does not appear to include the game's Ultimate Racer Pack, which is only available on PC and Xbox platforms, the game's official site noted. The standard version of NFS Rivals launched in November alongside the latest home consoles from Sony and Microsoft. The racing game was added to the EA Access vault earlier this month, allowing subscribers to play the full game at will. EA did not list a price for the Complete Edition, though pre-orders are expected to be available shortly. The game-and-DLC bundle will replace a new entry in the series this year, the first time in 13 years that EA has gone without a brand new Need for Speed game. The next entry will arrive in 2015. If you look at Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and wish reality would mirror its beastie-besting ways of big swords and even bigger swords, then Capcom's $60 collector's edition may be for you. Unveiled for North America this week, along with the 3DS game it bundles in a "translucent" Gore Magula figure, a Felyne pin, a lanyard dotted with colorful icons, and an emblazoned cleaning cloth (because why not we suppose). To top it all off, the whole lot is presented inside a blue supply box like the one in the game. Sadly, the box doesn't also include potions, whetstones and a torch, or any raw meat for that matter. More raw meat in all collector's editions, we say - nay, we implore.

Excitement is bubbling up from the deeps for RIFT's Nightmare Tide, and while the expansion is free for all, Trion Worlds is selling a trio of digital editions with extra goodies. The Typhoon Edition is $24.99 and features benefits such as dual earring slots, a new bag slot, and planewalker: water attunement (which allows you to equip special gear). The Infusion Edition is $49.99 and includes one instant level 60 character, housing items, a second minion slot, an extra bank vault slot, and a jellyfish pet. And if you want to shell out (no pun intended) $149.99, you'll get all of the above plus a cobalt thresher mount, a 36-slot bag, a Shadow Scion dimension, nightmare cosmetic weapons, an Abyssal Crab combat crab skin, and more. Trion is also tossing in extra loyalty for those who purchase one of these editions. If you have additional questions about the digital editions, there's a collector's edition FAQ put up just for you! [Thanks to Bill for the tip!]

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt will feature a card game within the open-world RPG, CD Project Red revealed. "Gwent" is a "fast-paced card game" invented by dwarves that includes four factions. Players duel with other characters using over 150 playing cards with multiple combat styles, heroes and spells. Gwent represents a "clash of two armies locked in mortal struggle on a battlefield," in which players' decks act as their forces. The developer also revealed the inclusion of bonus physical goodies for the Xbox One Collector's Edition of The Witcher 3. In addition to the 200-page artbook, medallion, steelbook and cases, limited edition Xbox One owners will receive a a cloth map of the game's world and two physical Gwent card decks. Best Buy, GameStop and Walmart listings peg the Collector's Edition at roughly $150. The Witcher 3 will launch on February 24, 2015 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. [Image: WBIE]

With yesterday's announcement of World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor's launch date fresh on fans' minds, Blizzard has followed up on the hype with details concerning the contents of the expansion's collector's edition. The CE, which is priced at $89.99 on Amazon, includes the full game, a behind-the-scenes DVD/Blu-ray set, the soundtrack, a 160-page art book, and a mouse pad. Of course, if digital goodies are more your style, then you'll be happy to know that you'll get a Dread Raven mount and Dread Hatchling pet for World of Warcraft, two StarCraft II portraits, a pennant for Diablo III, and a custom card back for Hearthstone. Blizzard said that supplies of the collector's edition are limited.

Bandai Namco revealed a Limited Edition version of Project Cars today, which will include a copy of the game, collectible book and five drivable legendary cars. The collector's book, titled "Project Cars: By Racers 4 Racers," offers a behind-the-scenes look at the game's development and influence from its community during Slightly Mad Studios' crowdfunding process in 2011. The five cars featured in the collector's edition are: The Ford GT40 Mk IV, the BMW M1 Pro Car, the McLaren F1, the Sauber C9 and the Mercedes-Benz AMG C-Coupe DTM. Those that pre-order either the Limited Edition or standard versions of the game will also receive the Modified Cars Pack, which includes three cars: The Ruf CTR3 SMS-R, the Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster and the Ariel Atom 3 Mugen. Project Cars will launch in November on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. The Wii U version of the racing game, which replaced the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions in November 2013, was previously delayed by the new publisher to 2015. [Image: Bandai Namco]

The special collector's edition of WWE 2K15 costs $100 and is exclusive to the game's PS4 and Xbox One versions, 2K Sports announced today. In addition to a copy of the latest wrestling game from Yuke's and Visual Concepts, the Hulkamania Edition features pre-order-exclusive Hulk Hogan and Hollywood Hulk Hogan playable characters for the game plus the two bonus versions of WCW star Sting, another pre-order extra for WWE 2K15. WWE 2K15's Hulkamania Edition also features tangible goodies only found in the collector's box (and on eBay shortly after launch for what will surely be ludicrous prices). Hulkamaniacs will receive a collectible art card personally signed by the Hulkster himself as well as a piece of the ring canvas Hogan strutted on in his Monday Night Raw appearance on March 10, 2014 in Memphis, Tennessee. Lastly, the special edition will include a vinyl figure of Hogan's "Hollywood" gimmick made by Funko.

The Sony-specific Collector's Edition of Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes 2.0 features all of the Avengers characters available at launch – Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow – plus Hulk, a figure that won't be for sale separately until later on. And the Collector's Edition comes with a huge display featuring the Frost Beast and spaces for all of the characters. And it glows. The Collector's Edition will be available for PS3 and PS4 this fall. Additionally, a bundle featuring the Marvel Super Heroes 2.0 Starter Pack (which includes Thor, Black Widow and Iron Man), and a 12GB PS3 will launch in the fall for $250. While the collector's display looks large, it probably won't require any assembly – the Avengers usually have that covered.

Enjoying the Destiny beta? Hopefully not so much that you feel persuaded to place a pre-order for the game's Ghost Edition, because UK retailer GAME is just about sold out, according to a recent tweet made by the store's official account. PS4 versions of the Ghost Edition are still available to our friends across the pond, but Xbox One copies are, shall we say, somewhat phantasmal. If you're living stateside, your options aren't much better; Amazon, GameStop and Best Buy are no longer offering the collector's edition for North America customers, though none of the above have made an announcement like GAME has. If you're looking to augment your Destiny experience, the Limited Edition, which includes a steelbook case, folio and in-game bonus content still seems to be available. Still, it looks like the Letter of Introduction, Golden Age Relics and Ghost replica afforded by the Ghost Edition will be but myth to many. Oh well, at least we'll always have the moon.
