We're in uncharted waters here, folks. The new reality that we're collectively facing really began to sink in this past week as ever-greater numbers of Americans have been told to practice social isolation and stay away from public gatherings as much as possible. Here are some of the headlines from the past week that I, for one, never thought this outlet would ever write.

  • Conan O'Brien's 'Clueless Gamer' skit gets a full TV show

Conan O'Brien's Clueless Gamer segment, where the talk show host struggles through (and pokes fun at) the latest video games, has become increasingly popular -- so much so that some studios pay for their games blasted in these skits (yep, they're advertisements). And TBS is keen to capitalize on that success. Hollywood Reporter understands that the network is developing a stand-alone Clueless Gamer TV series that will go into production in February. Most of the details have yet to be hashed out, but Conan would only executive produce the show, not host it.

  • Conan O'Brien thinks the new 'Call of Duty' is ridiculous too

There's something cathartic about watching Conan O'Brien stumble his way around video-game trade shows, and, naturally, games themselves. He isn't immune to the bullshit that many of us just kind of put up with in our favorite pastime and puts it front-and-center pretty regularly, albeit comically, in his Clueless Gamer segments. Which is what makes watching him play through Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare so satisfying -- spectacle is the mortar that holds the whole game together, and you'd need a crane to properly suspend your disbelief when playing. Naturally, he calls out the absolute absurdity of attending an in-game funeral and being forced to "interact" with the coffin to pay your respects ("this is a real emotional moment for me").

  • Watch Conan O'Brien make E3 2014 into an even bigger spectacle than it already was

As if the game industry's annual trade show weren't enough of a spectacle on its own, massively tall comedian/talk show host Conan O'Brien took to E3 2014's lavish booths and talked with swaths of attendees for a hilarious recap video. He makes the rounds: luging at Sony's Project Morpheus, high-speed driving in Forza, and making childhood fantasies a reality with Nintendo's gang of ladies (not quite "booth babes," but not quite not either). Sadly, we can't get away with asking crowds of people to applaud our rock-solid run through Hyrule Warriors, but Conan does it and makes it funny. Head below for the full video, but be prepared to set aside about 10 minutes. He's thorough!

  • Getting sweaty with the future of Sony's virtual reality

The private room, elevated above the crazed throngs of E3 attendees, was dark and oppressively stuffy. Inside, Conan O'Brien lay on a beanbag in front of Sony's newest virtual reality demo for its Project Morpheus headset: Street Luge. And he was surrounded by two Nintendo booth babes -- an awkward collision of rival gaming worlds that wasn't lost on Sony PR. Conan was finishing up a shoot for a spoof segment on Morpheus and I had to wait for the celebrity fanfare to stop.

  • Game of Thrones' author explains why he writes with an ancient DOS computer

You may have heard that Game of Thrones (read: A Song of Ice and Fire) author George R.R. Martin writes on a decades-old computer. Well, it's (still) true: he hones his craft on a DOS-based PC running WordStar 4.0, the same technology he used when he started his fantasy series in 1991. But... why? Thanks to a sit-down with talk show host Conan O'Brien, we know. As he puts it, the ancient hardware does everything he needs in a word processor, and nothing more. Automatic spelling checks in modern software would actually get in the way; you'd get frustrated, too, if you had to watch out every time you wrote "Winterfell" or "Daenerys Targaryen." Martin has a modern PC for everything else, but he makes a good case for using only the technology you need to get a job done. Let's just hope he has backups -- he won't get much help if that old machine eats his Winds of Winter manuscript. [Image credit: Matt Sayles/Invision/AP]

Conan O'Brien is back again with another Apple parody, poking fun at Apple's growing lineup of iPads. He mocks Apple's talking head-style promotional videos that mix product shots with brief statements by Apple's designers and engineers. In the clip, Team Coco adds several models to accompany the iPad mini that offer different screen sizes with "barely different options," including one the "barely fits in the door."

Thanks to a headsup from our friends over at Team Coco, we have a sneak peek at a fun clip from tonight's Conan O'Brien show. This is a video "released by a Samsung VP" showing how Samsung products are completely different from those made by Apple, proving the lawsuit is ridiculous. I can't wait to get my hands on that vacuum myself, it looks really powerful! Video embedded below... You can catch the rest of Conan's show weeknights at 11 pm on TBS. Until it shows up on television, you can kill time watching clips from other episodes on their site.

Comedian and TBS late night fixture Conan O'Brien wasted no time last week in poking fun at the new iPad. Siri is quickly becoming everyone's favorite personal assistant. It helps you navigate, sends messages on your behalf and provides quirky answers to life's most difficult questions like "Where do I hide a dead body?" Siri's capacity for juvenile amusement was not lost on Conan O'Brien who used Apple's Siri commercial as the basis for his latest Apple parody. As you would expect, his short skit pokes fun at the voice assistant's ability to answer just about any question you ask of it. For a chuckle or two, check out the Team Coco video below.

  • Conan O'Brien parodies iPhone 5 "loss"

Whether or not a prototype iPhone 5 was actually stolen from a San Francisco bar, the story has caused a media stir as anticipation for the handset rises. Combine that with the story of the pre-release iPhone 4 that disappeared in a California bar last year, and you've got a story ripe for parody. Conan O'Brien has accepted the challenge and produced a parody iPhone commercial, in which enraged Apple employees demand the device's return. They go on, in no uncertain terms, to describe the many ways they've devised to "punish" the thief. This isn't the first time Mr O'Brien's poked a little fun at Apple and its products, and we're sure it won't be the last. Check out the video below.

The web is abuzz with talk of Apple's new slimmed-down, low-cost Final Cut Pro X, but Cupertino's beloved video editing platform has also caused quite a stir among professionals, who note its lack of features and glaring absence of backwards compatibility. Conan O'Brien's editors have already downloaded the new app, and threw together a segment for last night's show highlighting some of its new features. Jump past the break for a clip of Final Cut Pro's 90 seconds of fame, or warm up that credit card and head over to the Mac App Store to give it a spin for yourself. Just don't dump Final Cut Pro 7 yet -- you'll need to have it around to open legacy projects, output to tape, utilize multiple editing sequences, and access Photoshop layers, along with one or two other tiny omissions.

Feeling a little underwhelmed by this week's iPad 2 launch? This promotional video recently unearthed by Conan O'Brien goes some distance in explaining why this might be... and why you're probably not alone. But just in case you did buy into the hype, don't feel bad: it's easy to get suckered by a smooth talker with "a non-specific ethnic accent." See for yourself after the break.
