High Voltage's love affair with Nintendo continues. Although the studio is still wrapping up work on Conduit 2, it already has plans to bring the franchise onto the 3DS where chief creative officer Eric Nofsinger believes the company can "be a shining star." Like on the Wii, the 3DS library isn't really bursting with high-profile FPS titles. According to Nofsinger, the results of their early prototyping have been "very good," saying that "we're going to be able to have something very close to this [Conduit 2] on the 3DS probably by GDC." Much of the engine used in the Wii game can, seemingly, be pulled over from the console to the handheld. Although the team is working on a Conduit game for 3DS, the game hasn't secured a publisher yet. "I would guess that Sega will be interested," Nofsinger told Eurogamer. "At DICE, the conference in Vegas that's coming up, we'll probably have some more chats."

  • Conduit mobile phone concept is about 40 years early

As much as we adore this concept, we're not even remotely hopeful something like this will become a reality within the next score or so. That said, we'd love to be proven wrong, as the Conduit is quite possibly the most fantastic phone design to ever be conceived. With a hint of steampunk, a dash of Star Trek and a splash of ergonomic appreciation, this here mobile can be collapsed into a pocket-friendly form or expanded into a bona fide video phone. Hit up the read link for a few more looks, and feel free to give these designers a chunk of capital to make our dreams come true.[Via kanYeWestBlog]

High Voltage Software's The Conduit has an interesting backstory. It popped up out of nowhere back in April, giving hope of filling that unfilled void of mature first-person shooters for Wii, and remained without a publisher for about six months until Sega finally picked it up. Of course, what really sparked interest was the impressive, dare we say, not Wii-like visuals. The folks at Gametrailers have a video comparing an early and pre-rendered build to the game's current state. It's a fun -- if not too short -- before-and-after look at the FPS. See it for yourself after the break. The Conduit is expected to hit retail sometime this Spring.%Gallery-33787%

  • The Conduit finds publisher, rumored to be Sega

Now that we've all recovered from Nintendo's first-party / first-person gaffe, we've received word that The Conduit may have found a spiky blue publisher. First off, the facts: developer High Voltage has told IGN that it has "decided on" a publisher for its space-themed first-person shooter for the Wii and that it will be revealed before the end of the week.As to whom it might be, IGN also notes that Sega has recently hosted a folder labeled "The Conduit" on its public FTP site (it has since been removed). While that seems like a pretty incriminating clue, we remain doubtful until we see an official press release. Fortunately, we don't have to wait much longer. Gallery: The Conduit

  • The Conduit gets MotionPlussed

Wii Sports Resort might not be the only title to showcase the Wii MotionPlus when the dinky add-on launches next spring. GameSpot went hands-on with The Conduit at PAX 2008, and revealed that the shooter will feature MotionPlus support. The Conduit is currently set for a March launch, so has this new information also inadvertently dated Wii Sports Resort and the MotionPlus?Whether it has or not, MotionPlus for The Conduit is Pretty Big News -- so much so, that we're afraid it may overshadow some of the other eye-catching details in GameSpot's report. These include: In the final game, High Voltage hopes to have a completely customizable head-up display, in which any HUD element can be dragged and dropped to different parts of the screen. There will be nine missions in total, with the singleplayer campaign lasting "about ten hours." Cut scenes won't be used; rather, the story will be developed through news or radio broadcasts, much like the Half Life series. Some projectiles can be guided using the cursor, which sounds a lot like the Nikita launcher in Metal Gear Solid, automatically making it ZOMGAWESOME. %Gallery-25003%[Via Go Nintendo]

In the second year of the newly revamped show, Nintendo released a few much-desired games, as well as a pair of incredible peripherals, and yet, there seemed to be something missing. Much of the show's excitement came from third parties (on my Nintendo Wii?), and some found Nintendo's announcements disappointing. Whatever your reaction, we're sure we can all agree on one thing: there was a ton of news and a flood of media. Luckily, you can revisit it all right here (even the week's most outrageous story, which wasn't even from E3).We've listed a few of the show's highlights below, but for the full index of all our 2008 E3 coverage, hit the break. We still have a few items rolling in, and we'll be updating the index as that happens. Check back with us over the next few days by clicking the E3 sidebar graphic. A new Pikmin sprouts! • Interview: High Voltage devs discuss The Conduit

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/nintendo/High_Voltage_reveals_gameplay_details_on_The_Conduit'; Having already secured some nice exclusive screenshots from High Voltage's The Conduit, our friends at Nintendo Wii Fanboy also managed an interview with the developers to talk about the upcoming Wii first-person shooter. A broad range of topics were discussed, so in the interest of keeping your attention, we'll use a bullet-point list: Developers "stole shamelessly from mega-hits" to get the best features from each one. Games cited include Halo, Half-Life, Resistance, Metroid Prime and Goldeneye. The control scheme is fully mappable, and the look sensitivity can be adjusted in-game. Speaking of controls, The Conduit will support Wii remote and nunchuk only. Sorry, no classic or GCN controller compatibility. While the developers would love 60 frames per second, they are shooting for "a steady 30 fps." They avoided addressing the rumor about Nintendo self-publishing. Said Creative Director Matt Corso, "All I will say is that thanks to the explosion of interest in this title, we've had a lot of publishers knocking on our door." Check out the full interview here. What we're dying to know is if the developer will make an in-game allusion to their previous "classic" Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Gallery: The Conduit

  • The Conduit really connects with the Wii

Expressing interest for The Conduit is good for the Wii. Why, it's even good for gaming in general. The latest press release from High Voltage Software describes the vision for this unique shooter, and CCO Eric Nofsinger is going right against the grain, saying "Too many Wii owners have been told that the Wii is a casual platform with no room for serious games or top-tier graphics."That statement gets our hopes up for the exact opposite of everyone's favorite Wii word -- shovelware. The Conduit looks to be entirely original and crafted with the utmost care, as evidenced by the gorgeous trailer, drooled over by many. Nofsinger wants to avoid the casual stigma entirely, "by providing gamers with the kind of title they imagined back when the platform was first announced." Best of all, the release window has been confirmed for Q1 2009. That's less than one year, which is practically heaven considering some developers often jump the gun and leave us hanging with their tantalizing announcements.

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/nintendo/First_gameplay_footage_of_new_Wii_FPS'; Independent developer High Voltage Studios has released the first gameplay trailer for The Conduit, a first-person shooter for the Wii with an impressive game engine behind it. As for the new trailer, we don't see the water and shadow effects that initially piqued our interest. Instead, we see a science fiction shooter reminiscent of Perfect Dark, Starship Troopers or Halo with solid, but not spectacular, visuals. The Conduit currently doesn't have a publisher. Compared to what does get published on the Wii, that's a shame someone hasn't jumped on this yet. Given the Wii landscape is a bit devoid of quality FPS, we're curious to see how the game progresses. We just don't want to get too caught up in hype, especially after Wii shooter Red Steel ended up drowning in it. [Via NWF]

  • Introducing a mature FPS in High Voltage's The Conduit

High Voltage Software has been hard at work with the Wii, apparently, as their tech demo above shows. The stuff they've done with the water is especially nice, we believe. But, a tech demo is just a tech demo, right? Correct, but what's interesting is that they are hoping the in-house engine that powers this tech demo will be used in their upcoming game, The Conduit. Now, we say "hope" because The Conduit doesn't have a publisher yet, so there's no guarantee it'll release. And from the tech demo above, and the screens that IGN has (we've tucked a few past the break), we're of the mind that this game needs a publisher. We'd like more than one good FPS on the console.
