Gateway updates FX and DX Series desktops with Core i5 2300 CPUs
Gateway has just announced updates to its line of desktop computers with the FX, DX, and SX Series. The new desktops will now boast Intel's Core i5 2300 processors, and Intel's HD67 Express chipset. In addition, the desktops will get a boost from newer graphics in the form of NVIDIA's GeForce GT440. The FX 6850-51 boasts 1.5GB of video memory, 1GB of RAM, and a 1TB hard drive. Several other FX models pack Intel Core i7 CPUs, up to 9GB of memory, and up to 1.5TB hard drives, plus a choice of Blu-ray / DVD combo drives. The DX Series also boast Blu-ray drives, a hard drive expansion bay, and an up to 1.5TB SATA drive (expandable to 3.5TB total). The Gateway FX6850-51 will be available starting next week for $999, while the new DX models, which include the DX4350-43, the DX4850-27, and the DX4850-45, will be available next week with prices ranging from $599.99 to $749.99. In addition, the newly thinned down SX Series desktops (including the SX2803-25e, the SX2851-09e, the SX2851-41, and the SX2851-41e) will now boast the device dock previously seen on the DX Series, and will also be available next week with a starting price of $499.99. Gateway's FX series desktops revamped, SX / DX series find solace in Core i3 and i5
In the market for new desktop machinery? Gateway's gone ahead and given its gaming-centric FX series a facelift for the new year -- nothing Alienware-esque crazy, but we do like the accessible ports up top, right next to the control dial for LED-infused lighting effects. Enough about the superficial, let's go inside: a 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 processor, ATI Radeon HD5850 with 1GB discrete memory, 1.5TB HDD with additional expansion bays, up to 16GB RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and a $1,299 starting price. There's a 16x DVD drive, and if you don't mind forking over a little extra, you can get a separate 4x BD-ROM drive. As for the rest of the lineup, while still donning old skin, the SX series has been boosted by a 2.93GHz Core i3 processor, and the DX series a 3.2GHz Core i5 and that 4x BD-ROM drive. Sharp's AQUOS DX2 HDTVs don't need any help to burn Blu-ray discs
So, Sharp, you introduced the world's first HDTV line with integrated Blu-ray players last year, what are you going to do next? Only naturally, the Japanese lineup of DX2 series one-ups the original DX by adding Blu-ray recording as well. It doesn't appear that these pack the LED backlighting of the new X-Gen based displays headed our way this fall, so for now buyers will have to make do with the 15,000:1 contrast ratio shared with the other D-series televisions. Still, the big deal here is that the 1080p (52-, 46- and 40-inch) and 720p (32- and 26-inch) displays will burn up to 30 hours of HD video on dual-layer Blu-ray discs, by way of transcoding and compressing to MPEG-4 format without any messy external boxes or wires. The price range from ¥170,000 ($1,740) at the low end to ¥480,000 for the largest size when these ship September 15 but don't count on seeing them on this side of the Pacific (or the Atlantic.)[Via AV Watch]
Gateway unveils DX mini-tower and SX small form factor PCs
Nettop? All-in-one? Sometimes you just want a good ole' fashioned desktop, and that's where Gateway's new DX and SX PCs come into play. The SX small form factor, pictured above, has packed in a 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Quad with GMA X4500 integrated graphics, 4GB DDR3 SDRAM, 640GB HDD, a 18x DVD writer, multi-card reader, nine USB 2.0 ports, multi-card reader, firewire and eSATA, HDMI and VGA outputs, and Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Asking price for that setup is $499, but if you're looking to game, we don't see much room for adding a hipper graphics card. On the slightly heftier side, the DX mini-tower boasts either an Intel Core 2 Quad or AMD Phenom X4 with NVIDIA GeForce G210 / ATI Radeon 4650 graphics cards, respectively, up to 8GB DDR3 and 1TB HDD, eight USB 2.0 ports, and all the other amenities of the SX for a starting price of $750. Both models are expected for release end of June, which means pretty much now-ish. To top it off, the company's also just released a new FHD display series in 21.5, 23, and 24-inch varieties, and it looks like there's been a spec refresh to its LX and FX desktop lines. Sharp to unveil 32- / 42-inch Blu-ray-equipped LCD HDTVs at CES 2009
You already knew that Sharp would be gearing up to bring a pair of Blu-ray-infused LCD HDTVs to the United States next month, but did you have any idea that they would be showing their faces first in Las Vegas? Yep, according to Wired, the BD-packin' 32- / 42-inch AQUOS DX HDTVs will be shown off first at CES 2009, after which they'll quickly multiply and separate out to various retail outlets across the land. Also, we fully expect to get pricing details for the couple at the show, but that's obviously not guaranteed.[Via CDFreaks]
Sharp to ship 32- / 42-inch Blu-ray-infused AQUOS HDTVs to US in January
You know those AQUOS DX panels that are likely already filtering out in Japan? Word on the street has it that two of the crew will be shipping to American soil in January. More specifically, TWICE is reporting that a 32- and 42-inch Blu-ray-infused AQUOS HDTV will be arriving in just a month, both of which will tout 1080p panels, 120Hz processing technology and a slot-loading optical drive. No prices have been set just yet, but a nice round $2,000 figure is being floated around for the big daddy.
Sharp AQUOS DX series: world's first LCD HDTV with built-in Blu-ray
Tough luck, Mitsubishi and Funai. Big talk is all fine and dandy, but in our world, it's the results that count. Say hello to Sharp's AQUOS DX family, the world's first range of LCD HDTVs to boast internal Blu-ray players. Slated to hit in 26- (LC-26DX1), 32- (LC-32DX1), 37- (LC-37DX1), 42- (LC-42DX1), 46- (LC-46DX1) and 52-inch (LC-52DX1) sizes, the whole lot will come equipped with an integrated HDTV tuner, bottom-mounted speaker and the ability to handle BD flicks sans an external deck. Of note, only the 37-inch through 52-inch sets offer Full HD 1080p resolutions (1,920 x 1,080), as the other two get stuck with "just" 1,366 x 768. Best of all, those in Japan will barely have to wait a month to see these in shops, as the entire crew is destined to ship in late November (in black and white motifs) for around ¥200,000 ($1,963) to ¥500,000 ($4,909) depending on size. Gateway updates bevy of laptops / desktops in one fell swoop
Merely months after Gateway thrilled your soul with the introduction of all sorts of new desktops, the outfit has apparently received the upgrade bug. Starting right now, the 17-inch P-Series, 15.4-inch M-Series and 14.1-inch T-series laptops can be ordered with Intel's latest Core 2 Duo chips, more spacious hard drives and dual-layer DVD writers. For those eying a tower, the FX Series, DX Series and GT Series now provide (up to) a Core 2 Quad Q9300 CPU, 6GB of RAM, an overclocked NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT and price tags starting as low as $549.99.
