Insider Trader is your inside line on making, selling, buying and using player-made products.Patch 3.2 has been shaping up to be a welcome event for professions in World of Warcraft. Soon, we will all have access to the next "tier" of gems and profession-unique buffs. This week, I will be devoting the column space to answering some reader questions. Pre-patch notes and Public Test Realm data can often create confusion, especially when we know that anything could change before we ever see it live. At the very end, I have included a bit of a spoiler, although I attempted to keep the details to a minimum and the wild speculation to a maximum. Are the new flasks for Alchemists only? - JoemamaThe new flask is called Flask of the North and can only be used by Alchemists with a skill of at least 400. This flask is clearly inferior to the Wrath raiding flasks because it is meant to be used in arenas. While it should give you a bit of a boost, Blizzard does not want everyone suddenly becoming Alchemists in order to compete. Of course, if you play the game primarily for arena, then you might consider switching if you haven't already. The most exciting changes for Alchemists will likely be the new epic gem transmutes and the fact that potions will stack to 20.

  • Jewelcrafting's flawed design

I don't know about you, but I think Jewelcrafting is the absolute worst Profession in the game right now. Back in The Burning Crusade, Blizzard made the awful mistake of having key leveling recipes as BoE world drops, making it extremely expensive to purchase the necessary designs just to level the Profession. In Wrath of the Lich King, they avoided the same mistake by making virtually all designs purchasable through a vendor.Great news, right? Not really. Actually, it downright sucks. Why? Because most patterns, sold by the cleverly named Tiffany Cartier, aren't purchasable with Gold. Jewelcrafters use Dalaran Jewelcrafter's Tokens to purchase designs. The trouble is, the tokens are soulbound and are a reward from doing the Jewelcrafting daily quest. Unfortunately, you can only do the daily once per day. With designs going anywhere from 2-6 Jewelcrafter's Tokens apiece, it takes at least two days to pick up a new design. While Jewelcrafters won't need to purchase all the designs -- some are BoP gems that don't benefit the player's class -- it will take over 170 days just to purchase all 62 patterns that she sells. There's something seriously wrong there.

  • Wrath beta patch introduces Jewelcrafting quests and rewards

The most recent Wrath beta push began adding the profession specific quests discussed in the latest Blizzcast. A number of Jewelcrafting daily quests were implemented, as well as the accompanying tokens and recipes. The rewards are a very nice spread of rare cuts, ranging from five to eight Dalaran Jewelcrafter's Tokens each. Doing the daily quest each and every day, you'll be averaging one new cut per week, which isn't too shabby. Both regular cuts and metagem cuts are available for purchase. With the way it has been implemented, it seems you'll want to coordinate with other Jewelcrafters in your guild, or simply other Jewelcrafters you know, to pick and choose which your guild will need first, Once that's done you can work towards completion. Not bad, I think, and it should be a fun dynamic. Better than random world drops, for sure. Still, we'll need to see it in action for awhile before we can make a real decision about it either way. So far, I like it and I'm curious to see how it will be handled for other professions. If you're interested in the cuts available, we've added them to our Wrath Jewelcraftng gallery, which you can see below. As always, click the Hi Res button to see them a little larger.%Gallery-29313%
