This week's Xbox Live Deals With Gold sale bring permanent discounts to the Xbox One's "top titles," while Capcom takes a hatchet to the prices of its various downloadable offerings on the Xbox 360. From August 6 onward, Dead Rising 3, Ryse: Son of Rome, Forza Motorsport 5 and Kinect Sports Rivals will be priced at $50 - a $10 discount off of each game's launch price. According to Microsoft, this new price is universal, so you'll be able to pick up any of these games either at retail or through the Xbox One's digital store at the new $50 price point. Capcom's discounts are much more impressive, as every game and DLC listed has been reduced in price by at least 50 percent. Highlights include Dead Rising 2: Off the Record for less than $7, Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara at $5.09 and the phenomenal Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Online Edition for only $3.74. Unlike its console predecessor, when open-world zombie apocalypse sim Dead Rising 3 reaches the PC on September 5, it will include all four Untold Stories of Los Perdidos DLC episodes at no additional cost. The news about the game, now known as Dead Rising 3 Apocalypse Edition, comes via a message from the official Dead Rising Twitter account. A later tweet notes that those who have pre-ordered Dead Rising 3 on the PC will be automatically upgraded to the Apocalypse Edition. It's unknown if Dead Rising 3 Apocalypse Edition will include any DLC beyond the Untold Stories of Los Perdidos episodes, such as the miscellaneous costume DLC awarded to players for buying Dead Rising 3 at launch, or the more recent, multiplayer-focused Super Ultra Dead Rising 3 Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX Plus Alpha. We've attempted to reach Capcom for more information, but have yet to hear back. [Image: Capcom]

Welcome to Joystiq Weekly, a "too long; didn't read" of each week's biggest stories, reviews and original content. Each category's top story is introduced with a reactionary gif, because moving pictures aren't just for The Daily Prophet. Joystiq celebrated its tenth anniversary of existence this week, which means ... we're teetering on that edge of middle school angst? No, no, we're thankfully immune to that. What it does mean is that we're still alive, and we think being alive is pretty okay! While the site has presumably made it this far because of its content, quality isn't sustainable on its own – we've been able to write news, produce videos, record podcasts and talk about video games for years because of all of you. Whether you stop in every day, have only read a single breaking news story from us, or you've just fallen down an impressive wrong turn on the Internet and have no idea why you're here: Thank you. Your patronage is a huge part of why we get to cover this industry, and we look forward to creating compelling content for you for another 10 years. Speaking of content, there's a ton of it this week: EA CEO Andrew Wilson addressed Battlefield 4's launch, we have reviews for Entwined and Pushmo World, and there's an avalanche of written previews and video interviews from E3, all waiting for you in a neat pile of bulletpoints. Dive in after the break, right after you drop off our presents next to the cake.

Legendary Digital Media plans to produce a feature-length film based on Capcom's Dead Rising series, Variety reported. The movie will stream via Sony's Crackle channel, an app available via many game consoles and devices. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, producer of the Transformers films, will serve as Dead Rising's executive producer with Tomas Harlan of Contradiction Films, which previously created the Mortal Kombat: Legacy digital series. A director for the film has not been decided yet. Following the film's run on Crackle, it will be distributed internationally by Content Media via DVD, video on demand, subscription video on demand and TV. Capcom's zombie-slashing Dead Rising series spans three primary games in addition to a Wii remake of the first game (Chop Till You Drop), reimagining of the second (Off the Record), mobile spin-off and a few separate downloadable titles in Dead Rising 2: Case Zero and Case West. The latest was Dead Rising 3, which launched with the Xbox One in November. The game will reach PC this September. [Image: Capcom]

Dead Rising 3 flays again on Windows PC starting September 5, Capcom announced this week. The news follows the formerly Xbox One-only zombie massacre headlining the new Steam summer sale, in which it's currently a quarter off as a $37.49 pre-purchase. Also, following speculation earlier in the week, Capcom clarified Dead Rising 3 is capped and optimized to run on PC at 30 frames per second, but should run fine uncapped as long as you have adequate hardware. "We can't guarantee that there won't be issues," Capcom's William Bacon said on Steam, "and obviously depending on your rig you may see different results. Rest assured the beefier your gaming machine, the smoother your zombie killing experience will be." [Image: Capcom]

Microsoft confirmed the third expansion for Dead Rising 3 is due tomorrow on the Xbox Games Store, although details of the DLC itself remain unconfirmed. According to screens linked to achievements (via VideoGamer.com) the Chaos Rising DLC puts players in the role of Hunter, the leader of a biker gang. Meanwhile, a newly unveiled image suggests he'll have a fine-looking bladed motorcycle to chop up undead with. All the DLC packs are priced $10 each, or you can get access to all four via the $30 season pass. There's no word yet on a release date for the final pack, The Last Agent, but Capcom put out the first three in roughly two-week intervals, so early March looks a decent bet. [Image: Capcom]

  • Dead Rising 3's Fallen Angel DLC now available on Xbox Live

    02.11.2014

Out of nowhere, Dead Rising 3 has received its second story expansion, dubbed Fallen Angel. As with Broken Eagle, Fallen Angel features its own storyline. This plot thread places you in the boots of Angel Quijano, one of the "illegals" who refused to have a Zombrex chip implanted in her neck. This disobedience earned Quijano (and all illegals) a "kill on sight" order from the government, so expect to have to battle numerous heavily-armed soldiers alongside thousands of shambling corpses as you attempt to protect any other remaining survivors Angel might come across. Like all Dead Rising 3 DLC expansions, Fallen Angel also brings with it new vehicles, new clothing options for the core Dead Rising 3 game, and new weapons. As you can see in the above trailer, the new additions to your zombie-slaying arsenal include a mace, what appears to be electrified boxing gloves, and akimbo uzis, allowing players to live out their "John Woo meets George Romero" fantasies. Owners of the Dead Rising 3 season pass are now able to download Fallen Angel at no extra charge, though by itself the DLC features a $10 price tag. Since the majority of the data included in this downloadable offering was issued to Xbox One owners with last month's 13GB patch, Fallen Angel weighs in at a reasonable 22MB. [Image: Microsoft]

  • Capcom net income slides 10%, Monster Hunter 4 sells 4 million

Capcom reported a net income of 5,957 million yen ($58.3 million) for the first nine months of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014. This marks a 10.3 percent decrease year-over-year when compared with the net income of 6,645 million yen ($65 million) reported for the first nine months of the last fiscal year. Overall net sales were up year-over-year by 3.5 percent to 75,221 million yen ($736.4 million) while operating income and ordinary income saw year-over-year decreases of 13.4 percent and 8 percent, respectively. Capcom said the Japanese home video game market was in a "transition period" as the nine-month period drew to a close, thanks especially to comparatively late arrivals of next-generation consoles in the region; both the PS4 and Xbox One have yet to launch in Japan. The publisher did credit its successes to the launch of Monster Hunter 4, which topped 4 million in sales, bringing the series total to 28 million units. Additionally, Xbox One launch game Dead Rising 3 topped one million copies shipped. Capcom's digital business (both DLC and full game downloads) amounted to 56,067 million yen ($548.9 million) in net sales. [Image: Capcom]

Dead Rising 3 shipped one million by the end of 2013, and looks on course to chainsaw through Capcom's initial targets. According to figures revealed by the publisher, the Xbox One launch game took total shipments for the zombicial series past the 7 million mark. As Capcom announced today, Dead Rising 3 smashed the million mark on December 20, 2013, around a month after the Xbox One launched. While shipments don't necessarily translate into sales to consumers, Capcom will be encouraged given the target it set of 1.2 million shipped by the end of March 2014. Like a well lopped zombie cranium, the news drops neatly alongside the arrival of the game's first DLC, the single-player prequel Operation Broken Eagle. According to Xbox's Larry Hyrb you can grab the DLC now, either for $10 on its own or as part of the $30 season pass that also covers the next three major add-ons.

  • Dead Rising 3 campaign DLC focuses on single-player story, ditches co-op

After a short delay, the first of four campaign DLC add-ons will arrive for Dead Rising 3 tomorrow. Each of the game's packs will explore "The Untold Stories of Los Perdidos," putting players in the zombie-matter encrusted boots of a different main character, while intertwining with story of Nick Ramos. Co-op will not be available in the DLC campaigns, executive producer Josh Bridge confirmed, saying the team at Capcom Vancouver wanted to focus on a single-player narrative. "We chose to do that so we could really drill down on a single-player experience and really tell that character's story," Bridge said in an interview posted on Xbox.com. Bridge says that the team understands fans love co-op gameplay and, though the story available in the four "Untold Stories" are single-player only, the weapons and vehicles added to the game with each DLC pack will be available for players to enjoy in co-op sessions. The first "Untold Stories" content, entitled "Operation Broken Eagle," begins prior to the events of Dead Rising 3. "In 'Operation Broken Eagle,' you're playing this commander of a military group that goes into Los Perdidos earlier before the main story. It gives a totally different take on the story and that was really fun for the team and we think gamers will really get a kick out of it," Bride said. "...You're going in with a big military point of view and deadly weapons, including this awesome chaingun that just rips apart the zombies." The content also includes "new weapons, a custom vehicle, a new story flow, new missions" and hopefully still, the ability to run around in your underwear wearing a horse head mask.

  • 13GB Dead Rising 3 patch paves the way for tomorrow's DLC

A new title update available for Dead Rising 3 readies the game for the debut of its first DLC story content, while also improving a number of minor issues. "The update introduces a host of improvements to single-player and co-op gameplay, including a variety of performance and stability upgrades, and fixes for issues related to achievements, UI updates, SmartGlass and more," states Capcom's official description. Executive producer Josh Bridge notes the patch alters the way items cluster together on the ground, making it more easy for players to accurately rifle through piles. The patch also improves how the game's PP bonuses are unlocked. It should now be less likely that Dead Rising 3 will simply not credit your achievements. The patch's biggest change is the addition of an impulse trigger warning whenever your gun is running low on ammo. Once your bullets start to dwindle, the right trigger will begin to vibrate, notifying your hand that you'll need to stop spraying lead soon. Capcom suggests that Dead Rising 3 players download this update prior to installing tomorrow's DLC mission, Operation Broken Eagle. If you plan to heed this advice, know that it weighs in at about 13GB of data. That may seem like a massive amount of space for so few gameplay alterations, but as Xbox Wire reveals, the majority of that 13GB is occupied by "[c]ontent for DLC episodes 3 and 4."

Team Joystiq is barging into 2014 with a celebration of last year's best games. Keep reading throughout the week to see our assembly of ingenious indies and triple-A triumphs. Splinter Cell: Blacklist Splinter Cell: Blacklist was my Game of the Year for 2013. It's hard to name another game that offers so many different experiences in one box as Blacklist, and even more arduous to name those that have hit the nail so squarely on the head as Ubisoft Toronto (and others) did with Sam Fisher's latest escapade. For franchise fanatics – of which I am one – Blacklist delivered an explosive concoction of everything: the exemplary action of Conviction, the tense stealth of Chaos Theory, and the sublime multiplayer of Pandora Tomorrow. Though its action-movie storytelling can't compete with the likes of other narrative successes launched this year, Blacklist continually entertains throughout its campaign. Its co-op modes are outstanding and its competitive multiplayer is frantic. It's gorgeous, addictive, and, for all these reasons and more, it's my favorite game of the year.

Capcom has announced that "Operation Broken Eagle," the first DLC episode for Xbox One's zombie smasher Dead Rising 3, has been pushed back to January 21. "Adding new content to the massive open world of Los Perdidos is a major undertaking, and to ensure we provide the best possible experience for players, we are putting a few additional weeks of polish and testing into the episode before it's released," an announcement from a Capcom spokesperson reads. "Stay tuned for additional updates." The first DLC episode was originally due on Christmas Eve, December 24. Operation broken Eagle follows Spec Ops Commander Adam Kane, who is on the lookout for the missing President of the United States. The episode adds some new base weapons, one new combo weapon, an additional vehicle and some fresh threads to the game. It's the first of four planned DLC episodes that are part of Dead Rising 3's $30 season pass.

If you're not dead set on Dead Rising 3, don't dead fret: There's a new demo on the Xbox Games Store with your name on it. Hop to the New Game Demos section to check it out. Also, publisher Microsoft revealed details on the game's first piece of story DLC, "Operation Eagle." A Microsoft spokesperson told Joystiq the DLC will be available on December 24. First, the demo: It restricts you to a 20-minute sojourn at Los Perdidos, but if you want another go by the end of it, you can. Each Gamertag can take the demo for a spin two times, but no more than that. As for Operation Eagle, as the name suggests there's a Federal air to the storyline: The President of the United States is missing, and your mission as Spec Ops Commander Adam Kane is to find her - or, as Microsoft's press release puts it, "capture" her. Sounds a bit like an undead version of 24 - or as it's otherwise known, Live Another Day. The Operation Eagle mission features five new weapons, a new combo weapon, a new vehicle, and of course some new rags to wear. It's the first of four major pieces of DLC announced for Dead Rising 3, all available via the $30 season pass. If you just want in for Operation Eagle, its standalone tag is $10.

In the realm of esoteric statistics, Microsoft announced that over 50 million hours in "games and entertainment" have been logged on Xbox One systems since it launched on November 22. The console manufacturer added that over 415 million Gamerscore points were unlocked via achievements on the system. Microsoft also noted a few other in-game milestones achieved in individual Xbox One games, such as the number of miles driven in Forza 5 globally (90 million), zombies killed in Dead Rising 3 (three billion), combos achieved in Killer Instinct (150 million) and enemies defeated in Ryse: Son of Rome (186 million). By comparison, EA announced that over 140 million gameplay minutes were logged in its games on PS4 in the console's opening five days. To add to today's numbers, Sony announced that global PS4 sales exceed 2.1 million, though we're not certain how that translates to hours spent or zombies destroyed or how close that is to the moon when you stack them all, etc.

Dead Rising 3 ups the zombie count considerably. Like, two to three times the amount of its predecessors. I'm talking tons of shambling, terrifying corpses walking the streets. If you are wise, you should be afraid – and you should be prepared. They don't call the city Los Perdidos ("the lost ones") for nothing. Here are a few pointers that should keep you from being lost to the undead.
