ASUS offers yet another curved monitor plus a 4K display
It's CES, so of course ASUS is going to show off a bunch of brand spanking new screens. In addition to the world's first USB Type-C portable monitor, the Taiwanese giant is also launching two stylish Designo MX Series IPS displays. On the left we have the 27-inch MX27UQ, which is basically a 4K refresh of the earlier MX27AQ and shares the same set of features: 100 percent sRGB wide color gamut, TÜV Rheinland certification for low blue light emission plus no flicker, and two 3W speakers powered by Bang & Olufsen's ICEpower. Luckily for us, there is one new feature here: You can stream Bluetooth audio to this monitor's speakers, which is a nice little bit of extra versatility. And for those who care, this model comes in an "Icicle Gold" finish as well.
ASUS Designo MX279H and MX239H monitors are slim, inspired by sundials
We'd wager that "inspired by sundials" isn't a phrase you expected to hear at this year's IFA, but there it is, in the press release for a pair of new monitors from ASUS. The Designo MX239H and MX279H have edge-to-edge screens, largely free of worrisome bezels and slim profiles at 14.5- and 17.5 millimeters, respectively. The displays are matte IPS, which offer up a 178-degree viewing angle, according to the company. And the stands -- they've got "sundial" written all over them. Peep the press release after the break.
ASUS debuts, showcases new 3D and IPS-based Designo displays
If it ain't broke, don't fix it; ASUS has taken this old adage to heart, offering up some moderate, but worthwhile changes to its latest consumer and 3D monitor lines. Retaining the award-winning style of its Designo series, the outfit is launching a trio of new 22-, 23-, and 24-inch IPS and VA panel displays -- each vaunting a 178-degree viewing angle, 1920 x 1080 resolution as well as more accurate color reproduction and a higher contrast ratio than previous models. Too bad this change didn't carry over to ASUS' 3D line -- despite adding an integrated IR transmitter for NVIDIA 3D Vision, the 1080p 27-inch LED VG278H sports a backlit TN panel (boo), same as its predecessor. But hey, at least the integrated transmitter ought to free up some desk space... right? ASUS Designo MS gets handled, gushed over
ASUS' stylish Designo MS monitors might not be quite on the same diet as the world's thinnest LCDs, but they're plenty svelte enough to collect glances of envious admiration. Suffering from a rather severe case of techno-lust, the Electric Pig crew got to handle a 23.6-inch sample and couldn't stop talking about the sex appeal of the exterior -- they were even big fans of the circular stand on the back of the display, which we suspect will have as many supporters as detractors. In spite of packing a full 1920 x 1080 resolution, the MS246 failed to impress with the quality of its output, but then if it was as gorgeous on the inside it'd have an Apple sticker on the front. ASUS Designo MS Series is 16.5mm thin, venerates form over function
Imagine yourself a dozen years ago, inhabiting the age of the CRT monitor, where a depth of 16.5 centimeters was considered a space-saving solution. Now open your eyes, breathe in the fresh air of modernity, and gaze upon ASUS's new line of 16.5mm deep monitors with the admiration they deserve. Coming out with no less than five models ranging from 23.6 to 20 inches -- MS246, MS236, MS226, MS227 and MS202 -- ASUS has strapped touch-sensitive buttons to 2ms response panels with 250 nits of brightness, and a 50,000:1 dynamic (boo!) contrast ratio. The top three models feature Full HD resolution and HDMI, while the 22-inch MS227 makes do with 1680 x 1050 and the MS202 gets downgraded to a 5ms response time and 1600 x 900 resolution.
