Welcome back to another hour of mirth and merriment with me and my co-host Shawn "Doc Rock" Boyd! Today we have one topic in particular to discuss -- WWDC 2013 -- and a lot of subtopics dealing with the minutiae that have been leaking out from developers. There are some fascinating things to see in both iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks, and we'll talk about what we've heard from our "feet on the street" in San Francisco. To join in to watch the live feed and participate in the chat, just click here. You'll join us on the AOL On Network. Steve: "Let's see ... Apple's got something coming up next week... Oh, yeah -- it's WorldWide Developer Conference week! Hey, Doc, why don't we do something really original, like a WWDC preview show!" Doc: "Sure, Steve! What an original idea! Nobody has probably ever thought of that in the history of Apple podcasts!" Noooo, we didn't have that conversation, but we probably could have. So we're going to talk a bit about what to expect or not expect at WWDC, look at photos sent by readers who were walking past Moscone West today, even reminisce about WWDC events and keynotes past. You can watch it all in live streaming video here, as well as join in on the Chatroll fun. If you miss the show, it'll be embedded in this post within 24 hours and will also be on our YouTube channel.

I don't know about you, but after watching / listening / suffering through all 81 minutes of Tim Cook's AllThingsD D11 talk with hosts Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg, I feel like I had a hangover. Unsurprisingly, Cook didn't open the kimono to reveal secret new products that are waiting in the wings, and the hosts and audience seemed to take delight in pointing out the parade of new devices or technologies announced by Google and other competitors. Today on TUAW TV Live, my co-host Shawn "Doc Rock" Boyd and I will talk about the usual -- new products, fun stuff that's come out this week -- and then rehash the D11 frat party. To join us, just click this link to jump over to http://tuaw.com/tuawtvlive, where you'll find our HD livestream and chat tool. Be sure to bookmark that page on your browser for future TUAW TV events. Past episodes can be found on our YouTube channel, and today's show will also appear on this page within 24 hours.

    05.22.2013

Today on TUAW TV Live, cohost Shawn "Doc Rock" Boyd and I will be conversing about a number of topics. Yesterday saw Apple CEO Tim Cook being grilled by a Senate committee about corporate taxes and at the same time passing along a hint that a "refreshed Mac line" will be manufactured in the Great State of Texas, so both of those are worthy of banter. There are also some new products that have made it to the TUAW Labs in recent days, so we'll have some quick unboxings for your viewing pleasure. To view the livestream and join the chat, visit the TUAW TV Live page here. Be sure to bookmark that page on your browser for future TUAW TV events. Past episodes can be found on our YouTube channel, and today's show will also appear on this page within 24 hours.

Today at the Google I/O 2013 keynote, developers were treated to a long (three-hour) keynote that covered the gamut from Android developer tools to Google+. The most fascinating parts of the talk for those of us in the Apple world were the variety of features that will be available to iOS users (and those using Google products on the web) almost immediately. My usual partner in crime, Shawn "Doc Rock" Boyd, and I will be getting together this afternoon for an hour of chat about these announcements and more. This week we're starting something a little different: you'll be able to watch today's show on the TUAW TV Live page. You wanted a wider video, you've got it.

    05.08.2013

Welcome back to another hour of fun, excitement and chat on this week's TUAW TV Live. The show is now part of the AOL On Network, so we're using a different livestream tool and chat room. No more Ustream, no more IRC chatroom. It's all right here on this page, where you'll watch the show and also be able to join us in Chatroll. Just click the play button on the player around 5 PM ET, sign into Chatroll with your Twitter or Facebook account, and you're ready to roll. Today Doc and I will be talking about the latest news in the Apple world, showing off some new apps and sifting through the latest pile of accessories. Note that at the present time, you can participate on iPad, but that the video stream may show pixelation from time to time -- we're working on that. The iPad viewer will let you blast TUAW TV Live to your HDTV via the magic of AirPlay. If you're watching on your Mac, full-screen mode is just a click away. Can't join us today? A playlist of recent shows is available on YouTube 24/7. The hosts can be contacted on Twitter as @stevensande and @docrock, and we'll always notify you when the next show is ready to go live @tuaw. Questions, comments or ideas can be submitted via email at tvlive at tuaw [dot] com.

  • TUAW TV Live: Earnings, "new product categories" and more

    04.24.2013

There's plenty of Apple news to talk about this week on TUAW TV Live. Yesterday's earnings report sparked some interest in the fortunes of our favorite company, as well as what Apple CEO Tim Cook referred to cryptically as "new product categories" to be announced in the fall and throughout 2014. Shawn "Doc Rock" Boyd and I are joining up via the modern miracle of FaceTime HD to discuss this and other news, and you are invited to jump into the IRC chat room to add to the discussion. Below, you'll find a Ustream livestream viewer and a chat tool. The chat tool allows you to participate by asking questions or making comments. You'll be watching the show in glorious HD! If you're driving somewhere and would like to watch TUAW TV Live while you're stuck in traffic, please don't -- keep your eyes on the road! However, if someone else is doing the driving, you can watch the show on your iPhone and join the chat by downloading the free Ustream App. It's a universal app and is wonderful on an iPad, both for viewing and participating in the chat. Feel free to join our TUAW TV Live chat room on IRC server chat1.ustream.tv, room #tuaw-tv. In addition, the live stream and chat will be available through our Facebook page. Just point your browser here to watch the show and chat with other viewers while you're on Facebook. We'll start at about 5 PM ET, so if you're seeing a prerecorded show, be sure to refresh your browser until you see the live stream. For those of you who are not able to join us for the live edition, you'll be able to view it later this evening on our TUAW Video YouTube channel and as part of the TUAW TV Live podcast viewable in iTunes or on any of your Apple devices.

Great. Now I have that "Lions and Tigers and Bears..." meme running through my head. Well, fortunately that will disappear in a few minutes when TUAW TV Live starts up with another week of chat and discussion of the news. So what's all this about printers? Well, after 10 years of faithful service, my old HP printer finally turned over and died, so I ended up getting a new printer. That got me thinking about how amazing these things are now, and how they're really nothing more than a cheap come-on to sell expensive printer cartridges. Below, you'll find a Ustream livestream viewer and a chat tool. The chat tool allows you to participate by asking questions or making comments. You'll be watching the show in glorious HD! You can also join in on the chat by pointing your favorite IRC client towards server chat1.ustream.tv, chat room #tuaw-tv. If you're driving somewhere and would like to watch TUAW TV Live while you're stuck in traffic, please don't -- keep your eyes on the road! • TUAW TV Live: Tools and toys

    04.10.2013

Today on TUAW TV Live, the topic is tools and toys. For bloggers, the most popular tools are text editors, and I'll have a live demo of Ulysses III on the show today. Megan Lavey-Heaton wrote up a nice review of this text editor from The Soulmen a few days ago, and I was impressed enough by what she said that I ended up buying Ulysses III and its iOS counterpart Daedalus. The two can be linked via iCloud or Dropbox, and I'm finding both to be useful in my everyday work. As for the toys, we always have a parade of stuff going through the TUAW Labs at any time, so today's show will most likely feature some items to praise or make fun of. I'm not sure if my normal cohort Shawn "Doc Rock" Boyd will be joining me for the show today, but if he is, I'm sure he'll have a variety of awe-inspiring new goodies to tell us about. 04.10.2013

Wednesdays are notable for two things: being "hump day" and TUAW TV Live. Every Wednesday I get together with one of my colleagues or a guest, and we proceed to chat about everything that's happened or is rumored to be coming up in the Apple world. That's if we're able to squash the somewhat inevitable technical bugs that seem to pop up when trying to stream HD video, keep IRC chat windows open and do a video chat at the same time... Anyway, we'll be on the air again today at 5 PM ET, and if you've never watched TUAW TV Live or it's been a while since you joined in, take a break and watch today's show. As usual, I'll be starting the show at 5 PM EDT (2 PM PDT / 10 PM BST) sharp, and we'll take a few minutes to chat before the demos start. To join in on the chat and watch the live streaming video, drop by TUAW about five minutes before the start time to get your instructions on how to participate. If you're unable to join us for the show, remember that you can always subscribe to the video podcast and watch the show at your leisure in iTunes or any other favorite podcatching app. The past shows are also available on the TUAW YouTube channel. The chat is on IRC: join us on server chat1.ustream.tv, chat room #tuaw-tv.

Today on TUAW TV Live, Doc and I are going to keep the discussion rather loose and wandering, talking about anything Apple-related that happens to pop into our heads. It's officially springtime in the Northern Hemisphere, so I'm starting to go out into the garden to admire the first flowers of spring. For Shawn "Doc Rock" Boyd, it's always springtime in Hawaii. Today we're going to get together -- virtually -- and co-host TUAW TV Live, although weather probably won't be a topic of discussion. It's always fun when someone shows you a Mac or iOS tip that has you saying "I didn't know you could do that!" I surprised myself last week when I showed fellow blogger Erica Sadun a simple Finder keyboard shortcut that she wasn't aware of, and she made squeeing noises expressing her pleasure at learning something new. Well, on today's TUAW TV Live Doc Rock and I are going to see if we can show y'all some fun tips to make your Apple life easier and more enjoyable. Hawaii's most famous tech geek and DJ will be joining me for an hour that's sure to get nominated for some sort of award (even if I have to make up an award category myself). As usual, I'll be starting the show at 5 PM EDT (2 PM PDT / 10 PM BST) sharp, and we'll take a few minutes to chat before the demos start.
