  • The Dojo gateway secures your smart TV and other home devices

Two things are true about the Internet of things: it's a fragmented mess and it's a target for hackers. The Foscam baby monitor hack reminded everyone that anything that's on a network needs to be secure and that includes your connected cameras, lights and fire alarms. Dojo Labs saw the security mess that's happening in our homes and decided instead of addressing the devices individually, it would keep tabs on the entire network and the traffic going in and out of it. The Dojo smart gateway tracks devices trying to connect to hardware inside your network and when one of those smart items, like an over-sharing television, is sending information outside the network. It does this in way that makes security easy for anyone to understand and manage with an app.

Hey karka, leave our kids alone! If you find yourself saying this at some point this week, it's probably because you're neck-deep in Guild Wars 2's latest content update, The Lost Shores. ArenaNet's updated the official page of the update with lots of time-specific information as well as a teaser video for the big event. The first stage of Lost Shores begins on November 16th and tasks players to defend Lion's Arch. On the next day, the tides will turn as players seek to retake the town. The 17th is also when the new area, Southsun Cove, opens for business. Finally, there will be a one-time event on November 18th in Southsun Cove, where the invasion and counter-attack will come to a head. You can watch the trailer after the jump, and don't forget to check out our Lost Shores primer!

We're just days away from Guild Wars 2's next big content patch and special event. So far the Lost Shores have been shrouded in mystery. Will the shores ever be found? Who lost them? Exactly how absent-minded does one have to be to misplace an entire shore? There are other, more pragmatic mysteries too. What is the content update all about? What can we expect? What sort of name do you give to a race of evil, bow-legged crustaceans? Happily, we're equipped to shed a little light on all those and more. Read on for our Lost Shores content primer!%Gallery-170657%

  • Baby Monkey devs Kihon get involved in Dojo Danger

It might be embarrassing to say, but I am a big fan of Kihon Games' first title Baby Monkey (going backwards on a pig). Yes, it's a silly game based on Parry Gripp's song of the same name, and yes, it's a pretty typical endless runner title. But I like it nevertheless, and so when Kihon offered to show me their second iOS title last week at GDC, I gladly assented. Turns out Baby Monkey was a trial, more or less. Kihon is a fairly new company (they've got seven employees so far) that was looking to dip its toe in iOS development, and Baby Monkey was the first result. Now that the water's been tested, however, they're ready to jump in, and they'll do that with a second title called Dojo Danger. Dojo Danger is a little more complicated than Baby Monkey was, as you might imagine. The game is turn-based strategy, and plays somewhat similarly to The Game Bakers' Squids -- you get a team of players pitted against another team (in this case, it's ninjas vs. zombies), and during each turn, you use a little slingshot mechanic on each round player to fling them across the board and try to do as much damage as possible. Though the basic mechanics are simple, Dojo Danger will have a huge amount of content: There will be 50 level campaigns for each of the two factions, and fifteen different units for each as well. Those units won't just vary in strength -- some will have healing abilities or other special functions, and there will also be consumable items used to boost up the troops (and sold via in-app purchase, of course). There will also be multiplayer available, both pass and play, and online asynchronous, where you'll be able to set up a dojo of units, and then your friends will come and try to take it down with their various armies. Maps vary as well -- some are just open battles, while others are a "Capture the Duck" variant (where you try to throw a duck into a goal on either side of the map), or have troops "frozen" on the field that need to be broken out of their ice blocks before being used. Finally, Kihon's business model for this one should be interesting -- aside from the standard freemium purchases, the company is also planning to release new units as often as possible, and sort of borrow the League of Legends model from Riot Games, where players will need to pay real money if they want to use those heroes right away. That should be interesting; obviously, balance will be an issue, but hopefully Kihon can make the profit they need without requiring players to buy specific units to win. Dojo Danger definitely looks interesting -- it's gearing up for a beta test right now, and expected out later on this year from Kihon.

For the second time after the Smash Bros. Dojo announced that there would be no more site updates, the Smash Bros. Dojo has updated. Rather than revealing something new about Super Smash Bros. Brawl, however, the latest update reveals something about you: that you're all crazy and willing to replay Target Smash and Home-Run Contest over and over again. The Dojo now features a list of records for the two contests, organized by level and by character. The fastest Target Smash overall? As of the end of last month, it's 3.98 seconds in Level 1 by Olimar. The longest home run? Ganondorf's 7,435.9 feet. And those are just individual records -- it gets crazier in co-op.If you're good at these challenges, but you've stopped playing Brawl, it may be time for you to hop back in. You might just get on the Dojo! Of course, only you will know, since there aren't any names attached to these records.%Gallery-16727%

We buried our friend, the Smash Bros. Brawl Dojo, many months ago. Then, like a zombie, the beast rose from its grave to honor today's European Brawl release. Aside from an apology (and the promise that you can play Brawl in five different languages), the Dojo doesn't offer much in terms of words. Yet, it does feature a snapshot gallery with some super silly Brawl images worth looking at. "Snapshots Galore" has been around the Dojo two times before, but since we happened to be around those parts today anyway, we decided to put the most recent ones in a gallery for your viewing pleasure (below). We're really proud of what the Smash Bros. community has done, regarding these snapshots (which are filled with ridiculousness, awesomeness, and "huh?") and other creations, too. Now it's your turn to take the Brawl torch, Europe. Let's see what types of goodies you can come up with.Warning: The pictures in the gallery below reveal spoilers! Only view the gallery if you're man (or woman!) enough to handle it.%Gallery-26316%[Thanks RupeeClock!]

The Smash Bros. Dojo has been with us for so long, offering daily glimpses into one of the Wii's most anticipated titles, but as of yesterday, the blog is no longer updating. Where will we turn now for our daily fix? Oh, we could play the game, sure (at least, those of us not in Europe; sorry, folks), but Masahiro Sakurai's informative, enthusiastic posts gave us the tools we needed to succeed and grow as people (and, uh, players). It's like losing a friend. In honor of our months with the dojo, the Wii Fanboy staff got together and prepared a gallery collecting some of our favorite reveals, so that we can relive the experience one last time. Can someone pass the tissue? We're having a moment here. Let Meowth show you it >

This is it, folks: the final dojo update before Brawl hits the U.S., and there's a definite "last day of school" feel to proceedings. Rather than deal with the drudgery of introducing new stages or describing individual items in fine detail, Sakurai and his team of translators have just loafed around with their shirts hanging out, flicked ink at girls, and uploaded around a hundred of the goofiest images that users have taken using Brawl's Snapshot mode (unfortunately, because we have a blog to run here, we only found time to upload around half). Some of these made us titter, some missed the mark, and others really need to be viewed with their caption (you'll have to go to the dojo itself for that) for the full effect. Oh, and you can forget shots of Peach's underwear, or of Snake and Pikachu in compromising positions. The dojo is a place for all the family, after all. Not some depraved message board thread populated by the likes of us. %Gallery-16727%%Gallery-10206%

Ah, where would we be without continues? You'd probably find us taking an anger management class or two if they didn't exist, truth be told.Of course, you shouldn't rely on continues. Even though you can use them, you should certainly try to get by without them. Sakurai seems to feel the same way, which is why you get punished for using continues in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Not that the punishment is all that bad -- Kirby won't puff into your home and slap you in the face, for example. Yet, in Classic Mode, each continue comes at the cost of points and coins. Your score will automatically get cut in half, and the amount of coins you owe is based on the difficulty you're playing in. Naturally, easy playthroughs cost less coins than difficult playthroughs. And yes, these are the same coins that you'll be using in Spectator Mode. Just like an arcade game, if you don't have enough coinage to continue, it's game over.As for Adventure Mode, the consequences aren't as bad. You don't have to spend your coins to continue, but you'll lose half of the trophies and stickers that you've collected on your current quest. You'll also receive less coins when you beat stages after continuing. We wonder just how hard these single player modes are going to be. Until we figure that out, you can bet that we'll be big penny pinchers.%Gallery-16727%%Gallery-10206%
