LG's big phone this spring may be the V60, not the G9
For the longest time, LG's phone releases ran like clockwork: you could expect a G series phone around Mobile World Congress in late February, while V series devices would appear either in the fall or when LG had some big new feature to promote. It appears to be shaking things up this year, however. Well-known leaker Evan Blass has posted promotional images suggesting that the phone previously thought to be the G9 is actually the V60 ThinQ, which would 'bump' the G series as the spring flagship device. It'd have the loaded specs you'd expect, including four rear cameras, four mics, a headphone jack and a beefy 5,000mAh battery.
Motorola may be working on a pen-equipped Galaxy Note rival
Motorola has tried numerous tricks over the years to stand out from the smartphone crowd, but its latest may sound familiar: offer a pen-toting phone to compete with Samsung's Galaxy Note family. Well-established leaker Evan Blass has shared a peek at what appears to be an upcoming Motorola Android phone with a stylus -- as he pointed out, the first Moto phone with pen input since the Windows Mobile days over a decade ago. He didn't provide details, but the hole-punch camera and interface show a clear connection to recent devices like the One Action. The gesture bar at the bottom hints at Android 10.
Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Buds+ leak together in official-looking shots
At this rate, you may know exactly what to expect at Samsung's February 11th event. Well-known leaker Evan Blass has shared a flurry of apparent official images for the Galaxy S20 family, including one for a promo that offers a free set of Galaxy Buds+ for people who pre-order the S20+ or S20 Ultra -- it's not quite revealing everything in one picture, but it's pretty close. The shots appear to confirm much of what you've seen in live photos and other rumors, including ridiculous camera arrays that include a 100X "space zoom" on the S20 Ultra.
Huawei's next tablet might look like the iPad Pro
Renders of an upcoming Huawei tablet have leaked, and they show a device that looks like the iPad Pro with a "hole-punch" front-facing camera design. 91mobiles, which posted the first batch of leaked renders, suggested that it may be MediaPad M6's successor and will likely be called the MediaPad M7 based on the company's naming scheme. Serial leaker Evan Blass, however, tweeted his own photo of the tablet (see above) and said it's going to be called the "MatePad Pro" instead. Huawei's laptops are called "MateBooks," so that name doesn't exactly come out of left field.
Windows 10X may be Microsoft's OS for dual-screen devices
No, the leaks for Microsoft's October 2nd event haven't stopped yet. In a follow-up, well-known leaker Evan Blass has claimed that Microsoft will not only have a dual-screen Surface, but that it'll be powered by Windows 10X, an operating system variant built for "dual- and folding-screen devices." While he didn't explain interface changes, 10X would reportedly run desktop apps in "containers" -- a term that typically refers to virtualization. In other words, 10X apps aren't the same as Windows 10 apps, but they will likely virtualize a Windows 10 container to run apps that aren't on 10X.
Samsung's first mid-tier 5G phone emerges in leak
The 5G phones on the market have usually been on the pricey side, including Samsung's. You'll spend a pretty penny if you want a Galaxy S10+ 5G or Note 10+ 5G in your pocket. You might not have to shell out quite so much going forward. Well-known leaker Evan Blass has obtained a deluge of videos and animations that appear to show the Galaxy A90 5G, Samsung's first mid-range device to use next-gen wireless. The design isn't shocking -- surprise, it's an A-series phone with a teardrop display notch and triple rear cameras. However, it's notable that the device would even exist in the first place when 5G is generally limited to flagship hardware.
Pixel 3a leak shows Google's mid-range phone in full
Google is likely set to reveal mid-range Pixel 3a and 3a XL devices on May 7th, and now we know what they'll probably look like. A leak from Evan Blass, aka @evleaks, shows a notch-free device with a fairly basic design, single rear camera and a rear fingerprint reader. That's a bit out of step with other mid-level devices we've seen recently like Samsung's Galaxy A70, with rear multi-camera setups and nearly bezel free displays.
LG's first 5G phone will likely be the V50 ThinQ for Sprint
LG and Sprint haven't been shy about their plans to launch a 5G smartphone in 2019. Now, though, you might be looking at the device in question. Well-known scoop provider Evan Blass has obtained an image of the V50 ThinQ, a Sprint-bound flagship with some very conspicuous 5G branding. The picture doesn't include many details outside of a notched display and an abundance of cameras, but it hints at a February 24th reveal date that lines up with LG's South Korean announcement promising a 5G phone introduction that day, just ahead of Mobile World Congress.
Samsung Galaxy S10 leak shows off its hole-punch display
Samsung's Galaxy S10 appears to have leaked again -- and this time, it's not hiding behind a disguise. Well-known leaker Evan Blass has posted a photo of the Beyond 1 variant (that is, the standard 5.8-inch model) that very clearly shows its hole-punch display with a spot in the corner for the lone selfie camera. The icons are unsurprisingly blurred out to avoid giving too much away, but the image otherwise provides a clear view of what the front design will entail. While Samsung hasn't completely eliminated bezels (it needs one for the top speaker), they're now so small that they make the Galaxy S9's chins seem enormous by comparison.
Nokia's five-camera phone will include an in-screen fingerprint reader
Thanks to some leaks, Nokia's five-camera smartphone is no longer a mystery -- and it might just be one of the more intriguing handsets of 2019. Well-known leaker Evan Blass and MySmartPrice have posted stills and videos of the Android One phone, now called the Nokia 9 PureView (yes, the PureView revival is real), and it's evident that the spider-like rear cameras aren't the only trick up the device's sleeve. It'll have an under-the-display fingerprint reader, for one thing. It'll still use the 2018-era Snapdragon 845 for a processor instead of the 855, but you can expect 6GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage, wireless charging and a 6-inch "2K" display with both HDR10 and a tall aspect ratio.
Samsung leak shows off the Galaxy S9's new DeX Pad
When reports came out late last year that Samsung was going to reveal the Galaxy S9 at CES 2018, it was bundled with rumors about a new DeX docking station. Well, the S9 reveal didn't happen at CES, but that part about a new DeX device might just be true: noted leaker Evan Blass (evleaks) has posted images of "the so-called DeX Pad" on his Twitter account. Like what previous reports said, it's a flat dock unlike the first DeX device for the S8, which looks like more like a traditional dock.
Google might announce the next-gen Pixels on October 5th
If you need to see Google's next-gen Pixels before deciding whether to get the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, don't worry -- you might only need to wait for a few more weeks. Evan Blass, known for his accurate mobile leaks, has tweeted that Google will be revealing the second generation of its Pixel handsets on October 5th. He also said that both regular-sized and XL versions will be powered by Qualcomm's upgraded chip, the Snapdragon 836, which HTC hinted at in its FCC filing. According to previous reports, HTC made the smaller model, while Google put LG in charge of the larger one.
Take an early look at the Galaxy Note 8 in 'Midnight Black'
While the Galaxy Note 8 won't launch until August 23rd, noted leaker Evan Blass aka EVLeaks has just posted a full render of the device in its Midnight Black color. Closely matching renders seen before, it takes the Infinity Design seen in Samsung's well-received Galaxy S8 and S8+ and stretches it across a larger frame. The event invite promised we'd "Do Bigger Things," but other than the usual Note features like a stylus it's hard to say exactly what will be special about this phone -- other than a slightly smaller battery to avoid last year's explosive issues.
It looks like Microsoft has a new Surface Pro after all
Microsoft VP Panos Panay recently said that "there's no such thing as a Surface Pro 5," and we now know what he meant by that. Images from uber-leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) and his article in Venture Beat show a device simply called the Surface Pro, without a model or series number in sight. Other than rounded edges on the screen, it strongly resembles the current Surface Pro 4, including the lack of a USB-C port.
Moto X returns in Motorola's leaked 2017 phone lineup
Motorola is going to have a very busy 2017, if you believe tipsters. Well-known leaker Evan Blass has obtained a presentation photo that purports to show the Lenovo brand's phone roadmap for the year, and there will be no less than nine devices by the time it's all said and done. Most notably, the Moto X (apparently called the Moto X4) is finally slated to return after a long absence. This image doesn't reveal much beyond the 5.2-inch "3D glass" display and a "SmartCam," but details gleaned from a video hint that it's an upper mid-range phone with the shiny new Snapdragon 660 processor, a hefty 3,800mAh battery, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of built-in storage and a fingerprint reader.
Samsung Galaxy S8 leak shows a huge display and not much else
We're less than a month away from getting our first official look at Samsung's upcoming flagship phone. Evleaks has something for those who can't wait till then, though: a clear computer render that shows a device that looks like the previous leaked images of the Galaxy S8 and S8+. The phone in the photo has a wraparound display that takes up almost the whole front side and shows March 29th as the current date -- the same day Samsung is launching the S8 phones.
HTC is readying a Vive-branded smartphone (update: not necessarily)
For weeks, HTC has been teasing a January 12th event that will show what it has in store "for U" in 2017. But just what does that cryptic clue mean? We might have a better idea. Well-known leaker Evan Blass has obtained a promo video (below) showcasing HTC's future smartphone efforts, and it's clear that the company is eager to try something different. Most of the clip centers on experiments with unusual phone designs, such as cloth or splashes of color. However, the most interesting part is toward the end: HTC briefly shows a Vive-branded phone, suggesting that the company wants to bank on the popularity of its virtual reality headset.
Google's 4K Chromecast emerges in an image leak
Those rumors of a 4K-capable Chromecast dongle just got more substantial. Evan Blass (who has a knack for accurate leaks) has posted an image of what he says is the Chromecast Ultra. The device itself isn't remarkable -- surprise, it's a puck with an HDMI cable attached. However, it might just say a lot about Google's plans. To start, its very existence corroborates talk that Google's October 4th event is about much more than new phones. And notice how it replaces the Chrome logo from earlier Chromecast models with Google's increasingly ubiquitous "G?" That lines up with the logo seen on the back of the company's leaked Pixel phones, as well as test versions of Chromecast firmware. Clearly, Google is aiming for more harmonious hardware branding.
