Amazon is making rivals like Walmart sweat a bit more over the holidays by offering free shipping with no minimum purchase to everyone. The company announced that it's waiving the usual $25 minimum fee required for non-Prime customers in a US-only promotion -- the first time it's done that, according to Reuters. The deal is effective starting today, and will last until just before Christmas, when Amazon can no longer promise free delivery in time for Christmas.

Slowly but surely, Amazon is bringing its free-shipping-threshold back to amount we collectively remember it being. Now, in an apparent bid to undercut the likes of Walmart and Target, Jeff Bezos' online-shopping juggernaut has dropped the cart total for free shipping (for folks who aren't Prime members) to $25 from the $35 amount set in February.

After launching it less than a year ago, Walmart is scrapping ShippingPass, a subscription program meant to compete with Amazon Prime's free shipping. Instead, it will offer free two-day shipping without a membership, provided you order goods worth up to $35, down from $50. By contrast, ShippingPass members got free shipping on all items with a $50 membership -- half the price of Amazon Prime, but without major perks like same-day shipping and music and video streaming.
