Fujitsu Siemens' new AMILO Xi laptops go consumer-friendly
Fujitsu Siemens loves to court the business set, but deep within that suited exterior is a heart for the consumer, as shown by this mildly interesting pair of AMILO Xi laptops. The AMILO Xi 2428 runs a 15.4-inch screen and weighs 6.6 pounds, while big brother Xi 2528 goes for 17-inches and a painful 8.8 pounds. Specs are fairly similar between the two: Core 2 Duo procs up to T7700, room for 2GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS graphics with 256MB of RAM, integrated webcam, and a full complement of ports like HDMI, S-Video, FireWire, ExpressCard, S/PDIF and a 5-in-1 card reader. The main difference between the pair is that the 2428 maxes out with a 250 gigger, while the 2528 can hold a pair of drives. The laptops will retail between £699 and £1449 ($1,404 and $2,909 US -- it's laptop prices like that which remind us why we live in the land of the free and the home of the brave), and will hit shelves sometime before the holidays.
Fujitsu Siemens debuts SCALEOVIEW Q22W-1 22-inch LCD
We're not usually looking to Fujitsu Siemens for leadership in the LCD monitor space, but there's a lot to like about the new SCALEOVIEW Q22W-1 22-incher. The display has the aspirations of many a young 22-inch display, but also manages to integrate a 30fps webcam and dual microphones into the display housing, which are powered by a USB cable. Inputs include D-Sub, DVI, S-Video, Composite and HDMI, with both the HDMI and DVI ports supporting HDCP. The unit should be ready for the holidays in Europe at about £299 ($600 US).

Turns out Fujitsu Siemens Computers is ditching the PDA / PNA market after 2007, which means that those bulky, albeit fashionable Loox handhelds will soon be available only in closeout bins and on your favorite auction site -- and just think, things were lookin' so bright just last year. According to a statement by FSC spokesperson Amy Flécher, the decision to cut the proverbial cord was simply "due to the usual examination of the portfolios," and the firm apparently noticed that "the traditional handheld segment (PDA) [had been shrinking] for years." Essentially, the company felt that smartphones would eventually swallow the "traditional handhelds" of the world, and considering that cranking out smartphones "is not its business at all," the choice seems logical.

Fujitsu Siemens intros Santa Rosa-based Amilo Pi2515 laptop
It doesn't look like the flood of Santa Rosa-based laptops is showing any signs of letting up, with Fujitsu Siemens now tossing its new Amilo Pi2515 into the mix alongside models from HP, Lenovo, Sony and others. At over six pounds, this one isn't exactly a lightweight, but you do get some decent specs with that added heft, including a 15.4-inch WXGA display, your choice of T7100 or T7300 Core 2 Duo processors, Intel GMA X3100 graphics, up to 2GB of RAM, a max 200GB hard drive, a dual-layer DVD burner, and a welcome ExpressCard slot to let you take advantage of the growing amount of gear out there. Unfortunately, as is the case with many of the other Santa Rosa-based laptops we've seen, there's still no word on what it'll cost or exactly when it'll be available.
Fujitsu-Siemens' Lifebook P7230 to get HSUPA treatment
We knew that Fujitsu-Siemens was hiding a little HSUPA laptop lovin' up their sleeves, now we know it's in the form of their new Lifebook P7230. The laptop isn't new, only the option to add UMTS/HSUPA data later this year. That, in addition to a 10.6-inch LED backlit screen and option to stuff a second battery into the modular bay makes this one hell of a laptop for those in need of 1.2-inches and 2.6-pounds of all day, ultra-portability. You know, if you can live with a Core Solo U1400 proc and the €2,999/$3,944 price tag when these hit Germany in the fall. Gee, we wonder who the network provider might be?[Thanks, Louise]
Fujitsu Siemens kits up with football club crested laptops
Custom laptop designs are a dime a dozen these days, with everything from fast car logos to glorious "Pink Feather" designs being stamped onto the back of LCDs in an attempt to draw the eyes of punters looking for a new lappie. The latest custom job on the market is Fujitsu Siemens' team of soccer themed laptops which don the colors and crests of four different UK clubs: Celtic, Aston Villa, Everton, and Tottenham Hotspur, to be precise. Under the soccer shirts, the laptops are Amilo 1536 models featuring 1280 x 800 15-inch displays powered by a 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics adapter. Dig a little deeper and you'll find a 1.83GHz Core Duo processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, and a roomy 120GB 5400RPM SATA drive. Not quite striker material, we know, but the £1000 (plus three year warranty) price tag ain't too shabby considering the bundled paint job. Fujitsu Siemens is promising other clubs will join the line-up to celebrate the recent start of the Premiership season, although don't expect any teams with notable rivalries to be released at the same time. If you follow English football, you'll notice that the first four club themed laptops are a rather disparate lot: there's no Liverpool to go with Everton, no Rangers to go with Celtic, and so on. Fujitsu Siemens releases Q2010 Lifebook
We knew it was coming, and we knew exactly what they were going to stuff into that $5,000 "world's most desirable laptop" version, but it looks like Fujitsu has some scraps for the poorer desirers of the Q2010 among us. In fact, we're not even seeing the limited edition version listed at all on their product page, but there are three "low-priced" versions available if you're willing to sacrifice 3.5G wireless and a bit of street cred. Ranging from from $2,000 to $3,200, the laptops all feature 1.2GHz Core Solo ULV processors, 802.11a/b/g wireless, and the 3-cell 1.75-hour battery. For $3,200 you get an extra 7-hour battery, 1GB total of RAM, an 80GB HDD and Bluetooth 1.2, while the $2,400 mid-tier version gets you a supplemental 3.75 hour battery, Bluetooth 1.2, and a 40GB HDD. With a 30GB HDD, 512MB of RAM and no Bluetooth, the $2,000 version looks positively barebones. An incredibly sexy, slim, lightweight and desirable barebones.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
Fujitsu-Siemens' Pocket Loox N100 / N110 unveiled
We first heard it was coming back in January and sho'nuff, Fujitsu-Siemens just went live with their new LOOX N100 series of pocket GPS navigators. These SiRFstar III devices run WinCE 5.0 on their 300MHz Samsung MCP3 processor and include 64MB RAM with miniSD expansion, a 2.8-inch QVGA (240 x 320) 64k color touchscreen display, MP3/WMA/AAC music playback, and NAVIGON MobileNavigator 6 navigation software all in a 0.02-pound lightweight device. The N110 also packs in an addition 2GB of flash while the N100 ekes out 128MB. We still don't have a price or ship date but it can't be long now.[Via FirstLoox]
Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook Q2010 now with HSDPA
As if this handsome little bugger wasn't already the "world's most desirable laptop," the Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook Q2010 won't just have Bluetooth, WiFi, 1GB RAM, a black "piano lacquer" finish, an eight-hour battery, a weight of about 2 1/2 pounds, and 3G -- it'll be 3.5G. That's right, T-Mobile Austria intends to equip the laptop with HSDPA data access for use on their high speed European network. The $5,000 price tag on the Q2010 just became that much easier to justify.
