The Samsung Galaxy S10's fingerprint reader has been balky from day one, with users reporting it could be unlocked with a 3D-printed fingerprint. Worse, a buyer recently discovered that if you install a third-party screen protector, a non-registered user could unlock the phone. Now, Samsung has acknowledged the problem and promised to patch it soon, according to Reuters.

Android 10 was released in September, but so far, it's only been available on Google's own Pixel devices. Usually, it takes other manufacturers some months to catch up, however, as promised, Samsung has released a beta of its Android 10-based One UI 2.0 for Galaxy S10, S10+ and S10e devices. The program is now rolling out in South Korea, Germany, and the US, according to SamMobile.

  • Samsung's Galaxy Fold reservations begin tomorrow (updated)

There's not much new to say about the Galaxy Fold at this point. It's a phone. That folds. It's expensive. And it may or may not have a significant design flaw, depending on how you look at it. The only remaining question was: When can people lay claim to one? The answer is tomorrow. Samsung just issued a brief saying that starting tomorrow customers in the US can "reserve their spot in the private pre-order," which begins April 15th. We already knew that the Fold would go on sale in the US on April 26th, and a press release from T-Mobile, for one, confirms that's still true. In its statement, Samsung added that the Galaxy S10 5G will ship here in the states sometime in May. When we say expensive, by the way, we're talking $1,980 for the Fold. As a refresher, the device has a 4.6-inch AMOLED display on the outside, along with a flexible 7.3-inch AMOLED screen when the device is unfolded. You're also getting six cameras and Samsung's Wireless Powershare technology for wirelessly charging other devices. Not bad, but then again: This is an experimental first-generation device that not even us reviewers have gotten to play with. As for the 5G Galaxy S10, Samsung somehow still hasn't mentioned a price, which is weird given how soon it will be available. For now, think of it as a higher-spec Galaxy S10, with a larger battery and a more advanced camera setup. Keeping in mind that the S10 itself starts at $900, that should at least put us in the correct ballpark. Update: This post has been corrected to say that only the Fold will be available for pre-reservations tomorrow. The S10 will be available in May but will not be up for pre-order this week.

Samsung Galaxy S10 teardown shows what's behind the hole-punch display

Samsung's Galaxy S10 may be all display on the surface, but what's underneath that enigmatic exterior? Quite a lot, apparently. iFixit has torn down the entire S10 family, and it's evident that Samsung has stuffed each phone to the gills. Most notably, cooling is everywhere. The back cover, display and wireless charging pads are blanketed in graphite, while the touted copper heat pipe is much larger -- it's closer to that in the Galaxy Note 9 than the cooling you saw in the S9. The iFixit team believes this might be necessary to keep the reverse wireless charging from cooking the phone.

The first time we got to spend a little time with Samsung's new Galaxy S10 5G, it came with a serious caveat: We couldn't actually turn the thing on. (Annoying, right?) As a result, the company's first 5G phone became the S10 we had the least amount of first-hand experience with, and that simply wouldn't do. Thankfully, Samsung has a booth full of them here at Mobile World Congress, not to mention a small-scale 5G network for demo purposes. (More on that in a moment.)

Galaxy S10 vs. the competition: Three is the magic number

Samsung's Galaxy S10 is here and it sits in a rather odd place — it's actually in the middle of four siblings announced today. But it still boasts the same three-camera setup as the larger S10+ and S10 5G. With a 6.1-inch screen it cuts an imposing figure next to other flagships, and that's not the only place where it seems to pull ahead. Check out the table below to see how Samsung's newest release stacks up against the stellar Pixel 3 and iPhone XS, and check back in a few weeks for our full review.

Samsung's more affordable Galaxy S10e will cost $750

If you like the Galaxy S10 but find the two standard models to be overkill, you're in luck. Samsung has unveiled its rumored Galaxy S10e, delivering most of the regular S10's features in a more affordable package. You'll have a smaller 5.8-inch display, 'just' two rear cameras (more on those in a bit) and a more conventional fingerprint reader, but it's otherwise as fast and eye-catching as its brawnier counterparts. Effectively, it's an iPhone XR for Samsung fans.

The Galaxy S10 has leaked to the Moon and back ahead of its February 20th reveal (see the Evan Blass leak above as proof), and even Samsung isn't pretending there are many secrets left. The tech giant has started taking S10 reservations in the US, giving sign-ups a guaranteed opportuntity to order the next-gen phone between February 21st and March 7th -- in other words, the S10 should arrive on March 8th. People upgrading from older phones can also get up to $550 back if they trade in their outgoing handsets.

Samsung's next wireless earbuds could charge on the Galaxy S10

Samsung might pip Apple to the post with wirelessly charged earbuds. WinFuture has obtained images that show the hinted-at Galaxy Buds charging on the back of the Galaxy S10, apparently confirming both a wireless charging case for the earbuds as well as rumored reverse wireless charging for the S10 proper. You probably wouldn't charge this way very often (what if you get an important message while it's charging?), but it could come in handy if you're away from home and want a little more music without plugging in.

Samsung's 'hole-punch' screen comes to Korea with the Galaxy A9 Pro

Late last year, Samsung showed off its first quad-camera setup with the Galaxy A9, and now in Korea it has debuted the Galaxy A9 Pro with an Infinity-O display. Both features are expected to be included on its next flagship device, the Galaxy S10, which will be unveiled ahead of Mobile World Congress in Spain next month, however the Infinity-O made its first appearance on an identical phone launched in China with the name Galaxy A8s. Instead of going with a notched display like the iPhone X series and others, Samsung's all-screen design simply punches a hole into the display for a front-facing 2.4 MP camera, with small bezels at the top and bottom for 19.5 x 9 aspect ratio.

Samsung's Galaxy S10 smartphones have leaked again before their official February 20th unveiling, and this time, we're getting a good look at the dual front cameras on the Galaxy S10+. A leak from the site All About Samsung clearly shows the Galaxy S10 and S10+ from the front and back, showing the "Infinity-O" display, with next to no bezel other than a tiny chin, a USB-C port and (yay) a headphone jack.

Samsung' Galaxy S10 appears to have leaked again, but this time the big deal is what's on screen. Gregory Blake and Ben Geskin claim to have leaked images of a Samsung Blockchain KeyStore that would serve as a cryptocurrency wallet, whether you're bringing over an existing wallet or starting fresh. The imagery only shows it supporting Ethereum, but SamMobile noted that its sources also anticipated support for Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash and ERC20.

Galaxy S10 leak suggests a lineup with three variants

    by

    01.19.2019

Prolific phone leaker Evan Blass has already posted an image that appears to show the front of Samsung's Galaxy S10, and now he's tweeted a family photograph showing off three variants wrapped in cases. Left to right, you're apparently looking at the S10E, S10 and S10+, and while it's unclear what E could stand for, (Edge? Economy? Equilibrium?), the S10 is said to measure at about 5.8-inches with the Plus stepping up to 6.4-inches. The Plus seems to have a double-hole punch up front, while the rear cameras have a different multiple-lens alignment and count than the quad-camera Galaxy A9 that Samsung released last year. Of course none of these appear to be fold-up models featuring Samsung's Infinity Flex display, but the S10 will be its standard bearer that we're expecting to meet at an event just ahead of Mobile World Congress 2019 in February. Other than the front pic that flashed a hole punch-style camera, other leaks have pointed to a new Bright Night mode for its camera that could rival Google's Night Sight on Pixel devices. All should be revealed February 20th, one way or another.

Samsung has traditionally launched its new Galaxy S phones at Barcelona's Mobile World Congress. This year, though, it appears it's breaking with tradition. Wall Street Journal reports that the company will be showing off its 10th anniversary flagship phone line up and its much-anticipated foldable phone at events in San Francisco and London on February 20th. Initial reports suggested we'd have to wait until March to see the foldable, rumored to be called the "Galaxy F".

Samsung Galaxy S10 leak shows off its hole-punch display

Samsung's Galaxy S10 appears to have leaked again -- and this time, it's not hiding behind a disguise. Well-known leaker Evan Blass has posted a photo of the Beyond 1 variant (that is, the standard 5.8-inch model) that very clearly shows its hole-punch display with a spot in the corner for the lone selfie camera. The icons are unsurprisingly blurred out to avoid giving too much away, but the image otherwise provides a clear view of what the front design will entail. While Samsung hasn't completely eliminated bezels (it needs one for the top speaker), they're now so small that they make the Galaxy S9's chins seem enormous by comparison.

Samsung might be working on a new night photography mode to take on similar features in rival phones. According to a report from XDA-Developers, code the most recent build of Android Pie for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 hints at the company working on a feature called Bright Night. According to the code, it will allow users to "take bright pictures even in very dark conditions."

Samsung Galaxy S10 rumor hints at a corner notch

Samsung's prototype 5G phone might be more indicative of the Galaxy S10's design than first thought. An image posted by a Vietnamese Facebook user purports to show an S10 Plus prototype (indicated by the "Beyond 2" codename) with a heavily disguised corner notch. Unlike the 5G showcase, though, it would include two front cameras like some leaks have suggested -- possibly for standard and wide-angle shots. While we'd take a leak like this with a huge grain of salt, it does line up with a recent Weibo post showing screen protectors with an eerily similar-looking camera arrangement.

Verizon and AT&T have set up small-scale 5G networks at Qualcomm's Tech Summit in Hawaii, but what good are wireless networks without devices? Motorola is on the ground with an apparently live version of its 5G Moto Mod, but Samsung showed up with something different: a secretive prototype phone, wrapped in a dark case and with a screen unlike just about any other I've seen.

    AT&T will offer Samsung's 5G smartphone in spring 2019

AT&T isn't about to let Verizon (Engadget's parent company) upstage it with a 5G smartphone. The carrier has confirmed that it will carry the same Samsung 5G device as Big Red in the first half of 2019 -- spring, the company tells us. There aren't any more clues as to what that phone entails. However, recent leak suggested Samsung was releasing a special Galaxy S10 variant with a 6.7-inch screen and six cameras. For now, at least, that makes it the primary candidate.
