  • Under Defeat HD hits Xbox 360 stateside after two years AWOL

    08.27.2014

So this is a bit of an odd one. Back in late 2012/early 2013, Under Defeat HD came to PS3 and Xbox 360 in Japan and Europe. In North America, Rising Star released the remaster of G.rev's Dreamcast and arcade helicopter shoot-em-up exclusively for PS3. Why? Well, we could speculate, but the answer's unknown. Then this week, around two years later and out of the blue, Under Defeat HD finally hit Xbox 360s stateside via Games on Demand. Despite being a vertical shoot-em-up, Under Defeat is ideally suited for HD widescreen life, as former Managing Editor JC Fletcher explained back in 2012. That HD "New Order" mode - which sadly doesn't have anything to do bizarre love triangles or blue Mondays - is part of the new Xbox 360 version, which is available now to download for $20.

  • Titanfall won't come to Xbox 360 Games On Demand

    04.11.2014

Titanfall publisher EA has nixed potential plans to bring the robot-infested shooter to the Xbox 360 as a digital download. A new entry on EA's help site explains the decision: "After extensive testing, we felt that [a digital release] simply did not represent the true Titanfall experience and it was decided not to release a Games on Demand version. We hope players understand this decision was all about quality and making sure you get the best Titanfall experience." While this is disappointing news for anyone counting down the ongoing death of physical media, we will remind would-be mech pilots that the disc-based version of the game has been performing admirably in our ongoing State of Service tests. Our latest report notes minor, isolated issues in the PC version, but otherwise all of the game's servers appear to be chugging along nicely. [Image: EA]

  • Killer is Dead, Deadly Premonition provide weirdness on demand for Xbox

XSEED has announced a pair of its latest games are now available for download on Xbox 360 through Games on Demand. Deadly Premonition is available for $20, while the more recent Killer is Dead can be yours for $50. Deadly Premonition is a very odd horror game from Swery, otherwise known as Hidetaka Suehiro. Players assume the role of FBI agent Francis York Morgan who is sent to investigate a ritualistic murder in the small town of Greenvale. Players may freely roam about Greenvale and undertake quests and participate in activities while hunting down the Greenvale killer. Killer is Dead, from Grasshopper Manufacture, takes place in the near-future and stars Mondo Zapper – an executioner with a robotic arm who is tasked with killing assassins and dangerous criminals the world over. In our review we noted that Killer is Dead had that undeniable charm that only Grasshopper can instill, even if it's somewhat hampered by simplistic combat and "dark direction and weird narrative a bit tainted by self-indulgence."
