Ever wanted to hang out with a tiny, goofball celebrity? If you happen to have a HoloLens augmented reality headset, now you can. Today Microsoft made Actiongram, its mixed-reality filmmaking app, available to all HoloLens owners -- and celebrated the launch by giving users access to a hologram of George Takei.

We may not be living in the future that Star Trek promised us, but there are still perks available to us that the kids of the '60s would have killed for. Like this opportunity to fly in a private version of NASA's Vomit Comet with Captain Hikaru Sulu in Las Vegas this August. George Takei, along with Roddenberry Adventures, is offering 20 fans the chance to zoom through the skies of Nevada, completing 15 parabolic arcs offering up to 30 seconds of weightlessness a pop.

Just in case those George Takei commercials didn't clue you in that Sharp was serious about Quattron, the company has announced four new TV lines at IFA sporting yellow as a fourth subpixel color. At the top of the list, the Quattron 3D-enabled LE925 line will be available in 60-inch or 46-inch sizes and feature Sharp's proprietary high-speed FRED LCD signal processing technology along with side-mounted scanning LED backlighting -- which like the LV Series -- is touted to produce 1.8x better brightness than competing sets and reduce 3D crosstalk. Aquos Net+ connectivity is thrown in too, along with 2D-to-3D conversion, a digital triple tuner and 8GB of built-in flash memory for timeshift recording. Playing second fiddle to this overachiever are the 2D-only LE924E, LE824E and LE814E series, which will also feature Aquos Net+. Pricing details for all of the new lines are still unknown, but they're slated to be available in Germany and Austria later this month. Here's hoping Sulu gets his jaw checked out before then.

  • George Takei can't show you Sharp's fourth pixel, can still blow your mind

We've seen our fair share of thin HDTVs -- and pressed iPhones against them for comparison -- so it's no big deal when Sharp swivels its latest edge lit LED creation and shows off its 1.6-inch depth, but George Takei's "Oh My" reaction is priceless. We were in the house for Sharp's unveiling of its quad-pixel technology (now called Quattron) and weren't sure we got the difference, so there's no doubt they needed an extra something to show viewers why they should care (embedded after the break in case you didn't spot it during the NCAA Tournament) since your display just isn't ready for constant loops of sunflowers, saxophones and repeat playback of Oh Yeah via the USB media port.

  • This is what you need to know: Brain Age 2 ads

Besides showing off new minigames from Brain Age 2, these five video advertisements are noteworthy for a couple of reasons: first, Nintendo has chosen to give their Dr. Kawashima mascot a voice that sounds distinctly like-- but isn't-- George Takei. Second, the backing music for these ads seems to be based on a sample of Trio's "Da Da Da." We don't have a problem with that; we just like "Da Da Da" and the famous Volkswagen commercial that featured it. And look at the excuse we just got to link to the video! Brain Age 2 is already improving our lives and we don't even have it yet.[Update: fixed stated number of ads.][Via GoNintendo]
