Postmates and Instacart introduce 'no contact' deliveries
First it was Uber's Quiet Cars, and now the socially avoidant can get their Postmates without actually seeing anyone. The company added "Dropoff Options" to its delivery service without mentioning the growing coronavirus outbreak by name, but clearly looking to service folks who, for one reason or another, would prefer to have as little contact with others as possible. As it is, the options include meeting at curbside, front door, or no-contact where they're left at the door. On Friday Instacart also launched "Leave at my door" delivery for its grocery dropoffs, mimicking changes seen in China as the virus continued to spread, albeit without the temperature readings of everyone who was involved in preparation or delivery.
Spotify for iOS updated with artist tour dates and faster search
Swedish music streaming giant Spotify has updated its iOS app with new features to help you find and follow artists both online and offline. Already present in its desktop counterpart, gigs and concert dates have made their way onto iPads and iPhones thanks to live music-tracking service Songkick. Spotify has also boosted the app's search features, expanding its reach to include user playlists and profiles while giving it a noticeable speed bump. Localization support for Japanese, Russian and Indonesian has also made it into the app, giving us a clue as to where the music service will open for business next.
Klipsch launches Status headphones and Gig Bluetooth speaker (hands-on)
Klipsch, worldwide enemy of fast-typing journalists, has arrived at IFA with two new audio products for our enjoyment. First up, the company is touting the Gig, a portable Bluetooth speaker with a clip-on arm that doubles as a stand. Packing AptX, NFC and a battery rated for 12 hours of life, the speaker is controlled with a chunky analog knob which reminds us of a childhood wasted playing with audio separates. Sound-wise, the Gig crams in four drivers -- two tweeters and a bass up front, while a second bass 'round back balances out the sound. At least, that's what Klipsch says, anyway. Black and white versions will launch in October for $200, and if you want to jazz up your sound with a different-colored strap, you can purchase additional hues from the company website. WoW Moviewatch: Honor Killz by A6
I'll admit that I got to preview some of this new video, courtesy of Gigi. Long story short, the Hall of Fame of Belf Rap have come together to form a machinima rap supergroup called A6. (That's for Azerothian 6, you see.) Backed up by the awesome machinimator Red Eye Lobine, A6 has now released their first video -- Honor Killz.The video itself is amazing. Red Eye has really put together a gorgeous video here. His attention to detail, his sense of setting and framing, and his detailed character work have created an incredible music video. I've never seen the blood elf models look so dynamic and interesting. His animation of the video's skit-within-a-movie was astounding, with a great sense of space and flow. (He also wisely executed an editorial bikini during the shower scene.)The music itself was pretty good. I'm not a rap guru, so I can't evaluate it in terms of skill. However, I find the conglomerate of six people working the lyrics and tune to be very interesting. The way the song "talks" to itself made it something more than just a parody song.As I mentioned, there was a skit within the video. I think the skit has a lot of personality, and was pretty amusing. It was definitely a good call to add some narrative content in the video, which helps provide its audience a sense of A6's relationship. They're not just a one time team-up, but people who know one another in some capacity.Ultimately, "Honor Killz" is a worthy opening for the group.
