HTC Merge / Lexicon prototype previewed, 800MHz processor produces sweet scores (video)
Here's a little something to make your weekend fly by -- Android Central scored a hands-on look at Verizon's dual-mode CDMA / GSM worldphone, the HTC Merge (or is that Lexikon?) and it's looking like one hell of a handset. Though the prototype's Android 2.2 build is saddled with HTC Sense and Bing for search, the hardware's reportedly superb, with a "clicky and responsive and very well spaced" slide-out QWERTY keyboard with no Desire Z hinge nonsense, and a weighty, solid feel. There's also a 5 megapixel shooter that does 720p video, a likely 2GB of on-board storage and 512MB of RAM, not to mention an 800MHz processor that'll surely help derail the megahertz myth with superb benchmark scores. See it pull a 1,500 in Quadrant after the break, and start dropping those nickels into your piggy bank.
HTC Merge / Lexicon user manual leaks out
We've already seen the phone itself in the wild, and the folks over at Droid Life have now gotten their hands on what appears to be an early version of the HTC Merge / Lexicon user guide. While there's not a ton of surprises to be found, it does further confirm the inclusion of Bing (and Bing Maps), and the fact that it is indeed a global phone. What's more, Droid Life notes that any mention of the phone's name seems to have been left out, suggesting that HTC hasn't yet completely decided whether to call it the Merge, Lexicon or something else -- the site seems confident that it won't be called "Droid," however, although it says it's heard "murmurs" that was once under consideration.
HTC Merge for Verizon gets snapped: another Android phone with Bing
We're not sure exactly what Verizon is up to with these high-end Android phones that aren't Droids and feature Bing over Google, but it looks like the Fascinate is about to get a friend: BGR just got these snaps of the HTC ADR6325, which appears to be the Merge we've heard so much about, and the same dual-mode set we saw at the FCC. Nothing's confirmed specs-wise except a five megapixel camera, microSD slot, and SIM slot for global roaming, but we're still pretty sure this thing will basically be the CDMA version of the Desire Z / T-Mobile G2 and feature a Qualcomm MSM7630 processor with 4GB of onboard storage. And then there's that Bing logo on the homescreen -- we don't know how thoroughly it's integrated into Sense, but here's hoping it's better than what Samsung accomplished with TouchWiz on the Fascinate -- hardware this promising shouldn't be saddled with carrier-wrecked firmware.
HTC Spark, Bee and Lexikon specs outed: one WP7 and two Froyo devices coming soon
Another day, another HTC leak. This time we're seeing some juicy specs for three upcoming devices, courtesy of notorious ROM leakster 911sniper (who appears to be buddies with Conflipper). First up is the cutely-named Bee that sounds pretty much identical to the entry-level Wildfire in Europe, except for the pre-loaded Android Froyo (as opposed to Eclair) and the Verizon-bound Qualcomm MSM7625 chipset. Next we have another Froyo handset dubbed the Lexikon, which comes with a more impressive package: 800MHz MSM7630 world-phone chipset, 512MB of RAM, and a QWERTY keyboard presumably under the 3.8-inch 480 x 800 screen. Apart from the much lower clock speed here, this could very well be the Android slider we saw earlier this month. Finally, we round off with the WP7-donning Spark that we've probably spotted before -- here we have the good ol' 1GHz Snapdragon silicon (but not the CDMA2000 flavor as we speculated), 512MB of ROM and RAM each, 3.7-inch 480 x 800 display, and a 5 megapixel camera. Phew! After all this, we best be off to bed -- do wake us up when there's a release date.
